The ensemble member, Stephanie Torns had been with Waitress since before it was on Broadway....the entire time. She was mostly ensemble and Jenna understudy, but also had stints starring as Jenna. She didn’t have the famous name or star power, but was an unsung hero and fan favorite of the show. On this last night, she had one scene with any lines, when she was playing the minor role of Francine Pomatter. When she came on stage for the scene, the entire audience cheered and gave her a standing ovation, which caused her to start sobbing. Honestly, she got more applause than after Kat McPhee’s “she used to be mine.” It was a pretty special moment. Stephanie Torns is the best!
