- The summit district of Haleakala National Park on the Hawaiian island of Maui is one of the most sublime locations on earth from where to watch the sunrise. Rising above the clouds of the island's northwestern rainforests Haleakala easily earns its name, House Of The Rising Sun.
If you plan to visit during sunrise, make sure to secure a permit from recreation.gov. Sunset is also a spectacular time to visit, but there is a reason viewing the sunrise is so popular.
Whenever you visit, please ensure you do so with respect for the land and the people of Hawaii. Haleakala is sacred ground, precious to many native Hawaiians.

Beautiful sunrise! Great footage of inside of the crater! I was there for sunrise several years ago... so many people there...
It was a pretty crowded event. But that sunrise was spectacular.
This is the closest most of us will get to being on the surface of the Moon or Mars. Camera images are like a postage stamp compared to the scope and power of the real thing. You get the sense that you are on some other planet and not simply on a mountain on Earth.
It is a sight to behold.
