I honestly never thought of prepping meals for holidays. But it makes sense and your the first that ever brought up the fact we should have such food preps.
Pumpkin pie filling (Libbys) poured into pie tin makes a crustless pie. You can also take one can of pumpkin and one cake mix, scoop into cupcakes. Include a container of frosting. Thank you for the great ideas 💡 ❤ 👍
I have used a cardboard box covered with heavy duty foil and duct tape only oaround the outside.put a wire rack inside tge box to keep air flowing around all sides. It works great elevated next to a wood stove or campfire.. I cooked full size loaf of bread...just rotate half through baking as the back of the box gets hotter. Works like a dream. You could bake anything this way I have never put charcoal inside the box. That doesn't seem as safe to me. I enjoy all your videos and have kept meals in bags for holidays and also birthday cakes fir alot of years. I had to use my Thanksgiving meal bag this year as my car engine died and I am stranded. Preparing ahead really brings a sense of comfort in times of trials
I'm confused by how the box gets hot enough to bake ... Do you put foil around the inside of the box as well? How close do you put it to the fire? Thanks so much!
@@juliabrown5948 I wrap the whole box with heavy duty foil. Only taping the outside. It sits about 4 inches from the woodstove or fireplace...elevated enough to get direct heat. The inside gets hot enough to bake. Heat stays near the back inside of the box more so it gets hotter. So check it as itvcooks and take the dish out and rotate as needed and continue cooking. This method is so simple and so cheap. It works as well as a regular oven especially if your fire has, already developed a good layer of hot coals. Nothing is close enough to touch the fire. About the same cooking times but watch and check it. Best wishes with easy alternative cooking. I was a girl scout and survival camper over 33 years. Get creative but be safe
🦃!!! You are my consultant! I did place an order! I am subscribed to your channel! I love your videos! I have followed many of your links to purchase many of the items that you list! I plan on giving meals in bags to some of my family members. Most of my family think I am just a crazy old lady. But they will never have to worry about me going hungry!!! Thank you, Jara!!!
I love this Holiday Meal in a bag! I have been making up meals in a bag like crazy because given the circumstances going on in the world I think there are going to be more people in need. I did NOT think of a Holiday meal so thank you for showing this. I will venture out tomorrow to get what would be needed (with a few differences). I will need to find bags that can hold the items but not cost a lot. I would rather put the money in the food supply than a bag. 🦃
Please keep going with your meals in a bag recipes. I now have these lined up on my shelf and it has really made my life so much easier. Even my daughter now grabs them and whips up quick dinners. What an awesome idea.
Half way through your video and I love it. Your Turkey dinner casserole will be useful with left over frozen turkey months down the rode. 😊 Your Christmas dinner looks like a keeper.
Best ideas that I've seen in ages! Your channel came up in my feed so I watched and I'm so impressed! Subscribed now. Im in the UK and will now be busy catching up with all your other videos! Many thanks for this helpful tip, love it, and will certainly do this to fit around what can be purchased easily here, as having a grab bag ready to make a holiday/celebration meal is an excellent idea.👍
Watching this brought back a memory from my childhood. My mom would make the gingerbread cake and always had the dream whip with it. Thank you for these awesome meal ideas. I am looking forward to making these up for my pantry and to give as gifts.🦃🦃
I use my grill to bake quite often. I just put a pan under the pan I am baking in so the bottom does not cook too quickly. I even make pizza in the grill like in the oven. These meals look great.
SOS- from my childhood! I also liked the salty taste. My parents were teachers , so mom made it for like a Saturday lunch before payday. She used delicious white Wonder bread toast (the Wonder/Hostess factory was in St. Louis, so we had bakery outlets that sold day old items of these products. Mom rarely made dessert from scratch because twinkled were super cheap.). 😊
Great ideas! Roast beef was the Christmas meal in my home as a child. I have carried that on with my kids. When times were hard, it was either a turkey or ham, which ever I could find for the best price.
I'm working 40 hours a week. Changing shifts often, and I'm feeling unorganized with my pantry in my apt. I think the meals in a bag will help me with both issues! ( Meal planning, also ) Thanks for your get ideas. I just bought a non-electric fondue pot for inside cooking.
Such a great idea. We prepare for everyday life, but the holidays are so individual to each family that no one brings up the need of emergency preparations. Thank you Jara. 😊 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
This is a great idea. Sometimes you can need extra food for unplanned family or friend situations so this could be added to your prepared food! Thank you.
Great ideas! All of these look great! My Christmas or Thanksgiving dessert would include cherry pie - already have cherry 🍒 pie filling on my shelf. And I’d likely use the yellow cake mix and do a dump cake version, and then cook in Dutch oven. I think there are so many ways we can still celebrate. I even have a memory of having catfish one thanksgiving. I thought it was because we were poor, but my mom later said that they just wanted something different. 😂 And lastly - I am a THRIVE customer! Whoo. Hoo! Texting now! So *THANKFUL* 🦃 🍁
Sometimes we have had beef and noodles for Christmas. My husband’s grandmother always liked to make homemade noddles. I could make a similar kit with store bought egg noodles.
What a great concept! And even dessert! I grew up with Dream Whip, before the canned stuff and Cool Whip. My grandmother had a special bowl that was used only for mixing the DW. It was small-ish and deep enough that, as you mentioned, no need to move the egg beater around (yes, we used a hand held egg beater!). My sister and I would have to take turns ... whoever beat the DW had to let the other lick the beater. And don't think that we didn't remember whose turn it was! 😂 Now I need to buy some Dream Whip and an egg beater. I wish I still had that little black bowl.
👍🏻🦃. Thank for another great video with great tips, Jara. I had forgotten you can do a cake with a can of soda. No reason not to have a little treat in a rough situation!
Love your meals in a bag ideas! Just a note about the powdered scrambled eggs … they are still raw, so you have to treat them the same as a fresh egg when it comes to preparation and cooking.
Love the Christmas dessert! I had a list of sodas to use instead of ingredients for cake mixes but not sure where it is- I need to find it and tape it inside a cupboard. Love this!
What an awesome idea for a special meal or a holiday meal during SHTF! It's not something I had thought about so this is wonderful to add to my idea/recipe book!! Thanks for such wonderful ideas!!
Ive done this in the past with different organizations to go with a turkey which the organization donated. It is fun to pick things and assemble the bags then put little recipe cards in them so people will know how to use the items. Thank you for sharing this. I do my own with home canned turkey and home-canned bone broth as well as other store-bought canned and bagged items.
I know this is a strange question, but what vegetable could you use in the green bean casserole instead of green beans? My husband really dislike green beans but I can get him to eat other vegetables. Does any one have a suggestion?
Great idea, meals in a bag. My concern is how you store the bags regarding rodents. Do you store the bags in a large sterlite container, or just store on a shelf?
I see one major flaw. I love the idea, we have done this for years. The flaw is to many dishes. Need to make one dish meals. If you don't have ample water to wash your dishes you will have a major problem after a few meal.
This is a good point and most of the meal kits I do are one dish meals....I guess I figured for a special holiday most people might make an exception for a little more "work"... we do stock lots of paper and plastic serviceware and disposable bakeware for emergencies to cut down on dishes and of course have plentiful water sources etc. But I did reuse the one pot for all 3 side dishes lol 😆 tried my best... and was thinking about other ways to do this such as heating veggies right in their cans together in one pot of water double boiler style. And of course like I mentioned all the other instances people might use these meals that aren't grid down situations. But it is definitely a valid point that I considered and that others should as well.
Seriously, you're on here complaining that you didn't get your FREE recipe from this FREE video that this nice woman created for us? You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself, EXPECTING the recipe you're entitled to. Get over yourself!

It definitely makes sense to me, I always like to keep things as "normal" as possible, and to keep traditions alive 😊❤️ Thank you for watching!!!

Pie crust a box of gramm crackers. Crush the crackers on a cookie sheet with a rolling pin and pat down inti pie pan. Children love doing this.

The box doesn't get hot. The inside of the box radiates heat
No matter what happens we need to maintain some kind of normalcy and these meals will help!! Thank you so much Jara!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

🦃 I like the idea of adding sour cream powder to make Beef Stroganoff. And the gingerbread cake looks delicious 😋
🦃
Another option for baking indoors on your propane or butane stove is the Omnia Oven. All the things you baked in this video could be done in one 😊👍

I'd love a more detailed "how to" posting 💚
Thanks for all your hard work to put these meals-in-a-bag together and showing how to store and prepare them.

@Wickedprepared, how do you store all of the bags of meals? I have started prepping these meal bags but storing them....
I have many on shelves and that's how I prefer to store them, but we also have some in file cabinet drawers until we get more shelving areas set up.
Would you show us how to use the military can opener please. I have them but don't know how to use them and no instructions came.

I have never heard of vanilla powder
TURKEY! 😊
What size are the bags you use for meals in a bag
Turkey 🦃
Turkey lol
And just a thought an emergency situation are they going to have an oven
I really think it's
Just a thought
There are several off-grid options.. solar oven, Dutch oven, propane-fired, etc
I don't see a link for the gee. May i have it. I've never seen that before.
You should be able to find ghee at your grocery store. (Should be on the shelf in the area where cooking oils are.)
