Why not just try putting Walman on waivers first and save the 2nd rd pick or hold on to Gibson? Not one Wings fan I know can understand this. There should never be a need for a sweetener. No way in hell does he clear waivers.

My thoughts on the matter. Really weird trade but it comes with a caveat. We Sign patty Kane prior to July 1st. Steep price for some flex on the blue line to accommodate Johansson and Simon, but if we get Kaner and Stevie gets his pick with some bonus insurance I'm all for it. LGRW
Do not apologize for talking in circles because that is literally all I've been doing out loud since this news had come out. It really is just so hard to wrap my head around.
Future considerations = San Jose eating some TBD cap for a future pickup? Also, with $29mil free cap space, $14-16mil slated for Seider and Raymond only leaves $13-15mil to fill your remaining 8 roster spots (ave of $1.5-2mil per). Not enough left to sign a big name player. Like it or not Cap space is a problem for the Red Wings at this point. They are defense heavy considering both Johansson and Edvinsson need to be on the roster. Walman may have been the only moveable defenseman to clear some cap space. The future considerations could actually be huge as San Jose has ample camp space.
My favorite athlete (and im Croatian we have many sports greats)gets in Hall of fame.He was truly something special,to do what he did on ice is something incredible
I wonder what any other future considerations deals look likr recently. That nay give a sense of understanding to what may cause the NHL to grant permission for the deal.
Hoping the Walman trade gets us something, eventually. Great that Datsyuk was put into the HOF, of course not only Zetterberg snubbed, but once again Chris Osgood as well.
One thing you can maybe take from this is that Steve might also be trying to send a message to Edvinsson and Johansson with this move that roster spots are open, and he’s depending on them to really make a push for a regular spot with the big club this training camp and preseason. Mainly for Albert, kinda feels like this year might be their last hope for him to be a regular NHLer. At least with our organization. I could be wrong about all of this, though lol
I think it’s obvious Yzerman values Edvinsson and Johansson more than Walman and made room for them to play…but I know there’s more going on here and we’ll have to wait it out to see what’ll happen.
I think it's very likely that Yzerman is targeting a high value player via trade. Maybe the SJ "future considerations" is them retaining salary on said player?
I too was expecting Holl and Petry to go before Walman. I did hear that Walman might have been in the dog house for the last couple of months of the year.
Maybe that's what the "future consideration" is? Depending on how the draft goes, they'll let Detroit draft at 14. Or maybe it is an assurance that SJ will not pick a guy at 14 if he's available?
@@captbloodbeardnow this is a realistic take. My other thought is maybe there’s a 3 way deal going on and SJ is going to help by eating cap from another team or something.
Could there have been issues with him personally between players? Someone who played with him pre-nhl said he was not the easiest person to like (what they said was much worse than that!) so maybe just off-ice issues? But even so, why is he worth nothing to another team??
Maybe the question we need to ask is why does Detroit need the 3 mil. There was already enough cap space for Seider and Raymond. Plus about 10 mil more afterwards. As for the left hand def I’m pretty sure Johansson is being brought up. Obviously all of us feel way more confident with walman considering this last year. Giving up a second round pick to have a team just take him is super weird tho. I bet ten teams would have taken him and his contract. That second round pick is going to mean something. Freeing up that cap space tho also has to mean something.
There was a reason Walman wasn't playing enough down the stretch. Yzerman liked Walman, something went wrong with that love affair or Stevie has a cunning plan that we don't know about yet. Relax boys! There has to more to this story. Something is coming!
If the Sharks wanted to trade down maybe the Red Wings wanted to make sure nobody jumped in front of them for their player. And the trade isn't finalized until the Sharks see if someone drops unexpectedly.
Am I the only one who thinks the following: San Jose has the first overall draft pick and the 14th overall draft pick. Detroit has a 15th draft pick. Hence, featuring considerations could very possibly mean we either trade up or more likely we just get their 14th overall draft pick in return for what we gave them (walman may have had a bad defensive year and some injuries, but he is an amazing player and he scored some amazingly clutch goals.. ghost part 2.. so is definitely worth a lot just like hronek was too). I haven't read all of the comments here, but it doesn't seem like anyone has mentioned this. Wouldn't future considerations possibly mean that the NHL OK-ed this draft substitute/trade.. since it's just three days beforehand, it's signed and sealed..? I want to be surprised if Detroit got that 14th overall draft pick from San jose... And they're just waiting to announce it at the beginning of the draft day presentation, so that the GMS don't have too much insight/it doesn't affect other teams' thinking on who to pick, etc
The only reason I can think of that Stevie Y would make that Walman trade is because he’s going all in on Guentzel and might have to have a bidding war with the LA Kings. Since dealing PLD to the Caps, the Kings have an additional 3 million in cap space, which sounds like a really close number to Jake Walkman’s salary
I think there something going with Walman where he had to be moved. I don't think it;'s a long term injury cause we could just put him on IR. I think it might be similar to the situation we had Vrana.
How can we use "future considerations"? They just offer a player they eventually want to dump their contract on us? I read up on it but dont fully understand. Can you guys elaborate in a future video? Thanks
Most of us were really angry about paying to get rid of Vrana, he ended up spending most of the year in the AHL? It still seems strange they had to pay to unload him, why not first put him on waivers? There must be something more to the story.
We’ll all be on pins and needles until we see what yzerman’s vision is. I do think we have arrived at is the yzerplan working conversation. Yes, I understand that last sentence is hyperbolic, but I think we need to be at a point where yzerman is not viewed as flawless. I don’t see this move being made if Holl, Petry and Copp deals were not done
He has been the GM for 5 years. We should be able to see his vision taking place. He will probably be gone by year 10 if they don’t make the playoffs. His big free agent signings have backfired bring in Copp, Compher, and Holl. He really hit lighting in a bottle in Tampa. Looks like he does not have that perfect touch in Detroit.
Remember last season? All the talk and questions on why Edvinsson was blocked. Walman is one of the reasons. He is a 2nd pair talent and team don' t win championships with a bunch of 2nd pair D men. They need cap space and trading him.provides it. Going forward does having Edvinsson and maybe Johansson in the lineup make more sense? Not to mention extra cap space?
Does anyone think Yzerman would do this trade if it was only for a third round prospect lol? Cmon now…. I’m not huge on Yzerman like most ppl but he’s not stupid.
If there is anything we've learned over recent history, and extended if you've paid attention; Yzerman is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. I have faith in "The Man with the Plan," and am looking forward to what comes next.
I don’t understand the worry here. Jake Walman although going against tougher competition. Was still -2 and only had 21 points which was second lowest. Matta had 3 less points and was +14. Not to mention nobody knows how he is in the locker room which is more important than a griddy. Also Benny had 20 points only one less and was only -4 going against tough opponents as well and defensively had a great year. I wish everyone would stop dogging Stevie he’s not building a tomorrow playoff team. He’s building a team that will be good for years to come and be a contender with a solid locker room
Yzerman has had 5 drafts with the Detroit Red Wings. In total he has drafted 10 players in the second round. Take a guess how many of those players have played a single second in the NHL. None. And 6 of those came in his first two drafts. My point is that a second round draft choice is not as coveted as one might think. Making space for younger players to me is well worth a second round pick.
I liked Walman--good character guy that complimented Seider very well. I think we'll all have this make sense in a few weeks. Part of this was to make room for Johannsen or to shed contract because something big is coming.
Can "future considerations" be San Jose's first round draft pick this year or in the next few years? Doesn't seem like it from what I'm hearing from folks like Locked On, etc.
Implying that it’s automatic that Zetterberg should be in the HHOF, when much better players are on the outside looking in. Datsyuk was in another universe. Also the Lady Byng trophy isn’t just a “nice guy award”. Datsyuk lapped almost everyone in takeaways multiple times during his prime and never took penalties . Watches like two young men who didn’t carefully watch Datsyuk and Zetterberg play in their prime.
All i know is Stevie has a plan, HOWEVER he better be working on something good because Red Wings fans are getting antsy with these moves and the time is NOOWWW to push forward!.. we've been sooo damn patient..
Fact of the matter is there is not a single team we would take down in a 7 game series in the first round next year, would you rather have 5 years of mediocre playoff success or 25 years of playoffs.
Look for a trade with Toronto or Carolina. Possible contract re-negotiation with Marner is only hang up. Detroit has offered Detroit’s 2024 second round pick, 2025 first round pick (protected), Jonatan Berggren, and rights to Joe Veleno. Toronto gets two immediate NHL ready players along with draft capital. Toronto also saves 8 million from cap to make another move. Toronto could also be getting a huge discount in trade depending on Bergrren’s growth. He is already an impact player for 3rd or 4th line. But Bergrren is actually a better player with more speed which fits Toronto’s top line. He has potential star qualities. On the other hand, Carolina has been trying to get Guentzel deal completed. If Guentzel deal gets completed in Carolina’s favor They trade Necas to Detroit for Bergrren and 2024 2nd round pick. Detroit is also very serious about Guentzel deal. Term and amount obvious concerns and that’s why Detroit has option A, B, and C already in place. That’s also why Additional cap space needed immediately. San Jose was in talks with other teams to pick up bad salaries and Detroit didn’t want to miss the bus. Otherwise they would’ve waited until next Monday before moving “The Griddy.” In addition, as a motivating contributor for Marner/ Neccas / Guentzel deal Detroit now also has contract structures in place for Seider and Raymond. Imagine Detroit signs Guentzel, keeps draft capital and Bergrren. Seider, Raymond, Larkin, DeBrincat, Rasmussen, Guentzel, and Bergrren. That lineup immediately makes Detroit a potential playoff team. The final trade for Detroit will be Ville Husso or Alex Lyon to free up cap space for Gibson. Detroit would prefer trading Husso but Lyon has more draw. Now look at star lineup: Seider, Raymond, Larkin, DeBrincat, Rasmussen, Guentzel, Bergrren, and Gibson. Finally, Detroit will place Holl on waivers and receive no takers. Detroit will then save $2 million per season buying out the contract. Detroit will work on Ghost or trade with Tampa for Cernak. And two more big veteran forward grinders on short term deals will be necessary. Additional Note: this NHL offseason will witness some of the biggest star player movements since beginning of salary cap era. Rumors and whispers have been too intense. Expect numerous trades and signings before the offseason ends. Teams will be very busy for next two weeks. Jockeying for position has already begun with Detroit breaking the ice. They know what’s about to go down. Too many great players being offered for them not to walk away winners. They’ve waited since beginning of Yzerman era for this moment, it’s here. I think the biggest question mark for NHL teams will be Winnipeg. If they’re serious about trading a star then all hell is about to break loose. What will be interesting is contract signings and tenure. Colorado signing Middlestadt for almost 6 million for three years? Really? I’d rather have Guentzel at $8 million. Not even close. Something has to give here too. Trades for existing contracts beginning to make more sense than free agent long term deals.
I thought Walman had a decent chemistry with Seider, was a fan favourite with that griddy of his. Sure there are some holes in his game, but to trade him for nothing, plus a pick? If they are trying to make a spot for Edvinsson then it should have been Holl. Unless something else materializes this is a weird move.
Also even if this ends up being a terrible move. It’s not like I’ll give up hope on the yzerplan. There could also be things behind closed doors we don’t no about.
what if this trade includes a trade swap for San Jose's 2nd pick in the first round or control of that pick for Detroit's 1st rounder? There is no way Yzerman gave up Jake Walman and his decent contract and had to give away a 2nd round pick to do it. Walman alone is a tradable asset. There has to be something else in play here.
This deal makes no sense. It was obvious that they needed to get rid of one of their D for their roster, with 8 active on the roster including Edvinson. Just not sure why they would be getting rid of one of their top 4 d to do it. If its to add another d, they will still have to move another and this move made their defense worse. I would put Jake at least one of their top 3 defenseman, with Seider and Edvinson. Maybe he just wasnt physical enough or their were other issues we dont know about. I agree with Brian, though. Wallman shouldnt be a guy u have to pay an asset to get rid of.
Not defending it but Wlamn was healthy scratched at the end of the season several times so something was off. Giving up a second and Walman for nothing is very questionable. I'll wait to see what the additional space brings before roasting Yzerman.
I bet SJ and Nashville are working on a trade and this helps balance it out. (Yzerman clearly “won” the Nashville trade, but clearly “lost” the SJ trade? 🤔) I also wouldn’t be surprised if Yzerman is going after a D-maybe Trouba? 😂-and this is opens the door for that.
The only explanation I have is that something happened behind closed doors or his injury is too serious for Detroit to go into the season with him. Or Cap Space.. would have taken the Sharks' draft pick 🤓
7:08 I love this channel but c'mon you really can't see that Yzerman has something bigger in the works. And if not bigger at least SOMETHING caused him to make the Wlman move. Dig deeper Think outside the box. I'll keep watching.
Still dont get why Seider and Raymond need to get 8 M contracts.. they are good but i mean for 2 more million you can get a Mckinnon or someone similar..
I honestly have no idea wtf Yzerman is thinking, I don’t like any of the moves he’s made so far this offseason. Unless a big trade is made soon that is.
Idk Yzerman will need to bring in a big player for this to justify it. The trade itself really could never be justified, zero reason to ever give up the 2nd round pick
I lost a lot of faith in Walman but it’s shocking that he has zero value to any team in the NHL. Negative value actually that you had to give a 2nd rounder to get someone to take him.
I would still watch hockey, but the league would forever be a joke to me if Datsyuk wasn't a first ballot hall of famer. You can clearly see his influence on the league today. Many of the great players we have now have cited him as a player they watched closely.
I've got faith in Yzerman. Walman wasn't a be all end all defenseman, obviously we had other D-men that he could've gotten rid of instead of Walman. Steve's not dumb though everyone's freaking out over this yeah should he have kept that 2nd rounder of course but knowing Yzerman i would bet the house there's a purpose to this trade. Y'all need to take a breath 😂
Do you really believe Yzerman didn’t let the nhl know he was available and passed on whatever you value him at to give up a second. It’s not reactionary. The nhl doesn’t value him like wings fans do. If Yzerman could have gotten a pick for him he would have.
Another Deadwings season for 2024-2025. Walman was a crowd favorite and he played some pretty damn good D. Edvinson is looking good, but he's not a veteran and lacks experience. Kane is looking at Buffalo and Stamkos is not coming. Good veteran players are gonna look at the Wings and say, "Nah, Im looking for a team that has a shot..." YEAR 9 OF REBUILD.
If Yzerman gets the 14th pick, he has a better chance to get his guy before the team with the 15th pick gets a chance to draft that guy. ... ... oh, wait, just a minute ...🤪
Clearing cap space for a future signing(or resigning) and / or making roster space for our up coming kids. Embrace change, Steve has not yet disappointed
Why would we need to be clearing cap space if not for his own mistakes? Literally just gave away last years 2nd round pick for his 2nd cap dump in less than 6 months (kostin now walman). We have yet to make the playoffs and are already in cap trouble.
Gibson sucks so I think that first trade was good getting a second round pick for him. I thought they were going to move a couple draft picks to move two left shot defenseman but I thought Walman had some value but obviously not. He got benched at the end of the season coming off his injury. He's good offensively but is a defensive liability. So I think they probably move Maatta next and probably buyout Holl and Copp
What if Seiders camp wouldn’t do a bridge deal and that forces Yzerman to put up $3-4m more than he could realistically do right now so he had to dump Walman. And he chose Walman, Seiders best bud, to send a message to his agent
@@casewojo6186dude is 100 pt player and still a point per game player in the playoffs in his career. They want him gone because he's the only one who they can trade between him and Tavares. I would gladly take Marner and turn Larkin and Raymond both into 40 goal guys.

Thought for sure they didn't induct Zetterberg last year so he could go in this year with Datsyuk. 😢
New subscriber here, been a wings fan since i can remember. I’m currently 24 years old & have no recollection of the wings winning a cup.
LGRW!!
My favorite athlete (and im Croatian we have many sports greats)gets in Hall of fame.He was truly something special,to do what he did on ice is something incredible
I’m confused about future considerations, couldn’t that mean that we DO get something more from SJ? And we can’t assess this trade until we know that?
I wonder what any other future considerations deals look likr recently. That nay give a sense of understanding to what may cause the NHL to grant permission for the deal.
What are future considerations? We dont know those details
I could be wrong about all of this, though lol
this is just the beginning of a blockbuster trade deal for the 1st overall pick🙄
Fyi the sharks don't have any retained salary slots left until after the 24-25 season.
@@joshuamorrison2979 welllllll, fuck me. :(
I too was expecting Holl and Petry to go before Walman. I did hear that Walman might have been in the dog house for the last couple of months of the year.
You'd think the Wings could've at least gotten San Jose to swap picks 14 and 15.
Maybe that's what the "future consideration" is? Depending on how the draft goes, they'll let Detroit draft at 14. Or maybe it is an assurance that SJ will not pick a guy at 14 if he's available?
Could be a handshake deal for the Sharks not to draft the player they like.
@@TheLilLeeroy yes correct. Or control of the pick.
My guess is we wanted to have pick options and dump cap space. Yzerman figures we have enough D men
He also really wants Edvinsson and Albert Johansson to prove they can stay in Detroit for good.
So here we are on July 7 and there was apparently no big move up Yzerman's sleeve. I still say it's all about the 'Griddy'.
I suspect Walman is dealing with a long term injury and the deal was to give SJ a pick for a cash dump.
I think there something going with Walman where he had to be moved. I don't think it;'s a long term injury cause we could just put him on IR. I think it might be similar to the situation we had Vrana.
@@redbeard6403 wally was not on any drugs man cmon
That has to be it. I'm surprised these guys aren't thinking of that.
@@g0ec Maybe not drugs, maybe undisclosed family issues, or something else in his family life.
Is there a chance that the " future considerations " ends up being a 1st round pick?
I would say that is very low like 1% chance. I think Yzerman gave up Walman and a 2nd round pick for nothing.
Why Stevie, why????????
Brianas afinlander fromthe up, you actually say the name pretty good!
Maybe this explains why he was not playing at the end of season. Did he ask to be traded??? Crazy situation either way. This one really shocked me.
Something better be coming because we basically got rid of Gibson and Walman for a third round prospect.
Does anyone think Yzerman would do this trade if it was only for a third round prospect lol? Cmon now…. I’m not huge on Yzerman like most ppl but he’s not stupid.
Obviously something is wrong with Walman that we don't know about.
Just to clarify, Wellman does have two years left on his contract😅
Just to clarify, his name is Walman, not Wellman. 😉
When I said “He” i was referring to Maatta. He only had one year left. I need to stop saying “he” when referring to multiple people
@@captbloodbeard damn autocorrect lol
@@LockedOnRedWings no worries! Keep up the good work!!
@@undraftedhockeyfan lol, it wasn't just you that was confused by their phrasing, I thought they were taking about Walman too.
I liked Walman--good character guy that complimented Seider very well. I think we'll all have this make sense in a few weeks. Part of this was to make room for Johannsen or to shed contract because something big is coming.
Horrible net front presence. But he was a better option than others on the BL.
It was either a cash dump or there could be a exchange of pick 15 and pick 14 between the two teams
Can "future considerations" be San Jose's first round draft pick this year or in the next few years? Doesn't seem like it from what I'm hearing from folks like Locked On, etc.
Oh sweet. Looking forward to the post-1st round episode.
@@jjgaming6204 well of course the latter but " pushing forward" is making moves to to push the team to the next level.. two things can be true..
@@thewizardofoz511 patience my friend. Patience.
What if the future consideration is not to trade to anyone the 14 pick?
Otherwise they would’ve waited until next Monday before moving “The Griddy.”
In addition, as a motivating contributor for Marner/ Neccas / Guentzel deal Detroit now also has contract structures in place for Seider and Raymond.
Is San Jose working on a deal that will come to Detroit in that trade
Heavily doubt it
Makes sense actually. SJ retains salary of a star player..future considerations meaning can't be said til the player is traded for and signed.
Too early to comment. Wait til the window closes and itll be clearer
I think dumping walman makes sense when you’re trying to resign Ghost, and extend Raymond and Seider. But the 2nd round pick doesn’t make sense to me
no way is this team resigning Ghost
Feels like future considerations might be a pick swap.
Ghost needs to go
7:08 I love this channel but c'mon you really can't see that Yzerman has something bigger in the works.
And if not bigger at least SOMETHING caused him to make the Wlman move. Dig deeper
Think outside the box.
I'll keep watching.
Its not like walmas 21 points in 63 games is irreplaceable
Still dont get why Seider and Raymond need to get 8 M contracts.. they are good but i mean for 2 more million you can get a Mckinnon or someone similar..
I honestly have no idea wtf Yzerman is thinking, I don’t like any of the moves he’s made so far this offseason. Unless a big trade is made soon that is.
calm down, let Stevie cook, you know he's got something sweet in the works.
Idk Yzerman will need to bring in a big player for this to justify it. The trade itself really could never be justified, zero reason to ever give up the 2nd round pick
6.8 mill of cap room returned to the wings. 3.4 to spend right now.
@@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants you won’t find another top4 dman for only $3.4m
@@DazzerrPlays Clearly the wings dont think he is a top 4 d man.
So we have nothing to worry about as Red Wings by these moves then?🤔
I've got faith in Yzerman.
Could've put him on waivers and let 31 teams decide if they wanted him for free. This is textbook poor asset management.
I think there's a very good chance
That Gus bus is going to be traded to
Detroit, I'm going to miss him
Denny from Minnesota
Only way this makes sense is if Jake’s injury is worse than they have let on, and the 2nd is for the Sharks to take on a bad contract
Emergency podcast does that mean we ANOTHER tonight at midnight? Bc I can't smoke without watching it.
Do we still owe Edmonton future considerations for Kostin and Yamamoto?
No. But we're still paying Yamamoto 500k for another year 😂
If Yzerman gets the 14th pick, he has a better chance to get his guy before the team with the 15th pick gets a chance to draft that guy. ... ... oh, wait, just a minute ...🤪
Ollie Matta is an older player.
He’s 29. Walman is 28.
Getting ready to sign Matt Roy
Who
Making room for Mo, Kane, and Ramon
I think this was now to make roster room and cap space for Ghostbear. So any raise Ghost gets becomes zero sum with this contract dump.
Future consideration better be holding kanes contract raise for a while 😂
Or Walmans Fortnite addiction catching up to him
What if Seiders camp wouldn’t do a bridge deal and that forces Yzerman to put up $3-4m more than he could realistically do right now so he had to dump Walman. And he chose Walman, Seiders best bud, to send a message to his agent
They now have like 32m in cap space so...
Maybe Yzerman doesn't like Walman and his Gritty.
Mitchell marner ... do it!
Why? So we can make playoffs and he can NOT produce. I want nothing to do with Marner. There’s a reason why Toronto wants him gone.
@@casewojo6186dude is 100 pt player and still a point per game player in the playoffs in his career. They want him gone because he's the only one who they can trade between him and Tavares. I would gladly take Marner and turn Larkin and Raymond both into 40 goal guys.
