I have it on Nintendo Switch. It's quite fun but it would be nice if they had settings to change the rules a bit. I have the book "Hanafuda Games" (the Hanami Edition). It is pretty much the only English book that covers all sorts of games that can be played with hanafuda cards. Hana-Awase, Koi-Koi, Hachi-Hachi, etc. Looking up Koi-Koi there seem to be many "house rules" in a way making many variations on how to play. In the book you can call Koi-Koi over and over but the score is only doubled once for the round. Also if your opponent wins after you call Koi-Koi your opponent wins double the amount of his hand. It also sounds like the scores could go as high as they want for how many rounds you decide to play. This makes a huge difference from the style that Koi-Koi Japan plays. In Koi Koi Japan the first player to reach 60 wins. Also after each time you call Koi-Koi the winning score would be multiplied again... X2, X3, X4... This can lead to some huge scores where you can crush your opponent on the first hand and win the game. Also if your opponent wins after you have called Koi-Koi there score is still only X1 which takes away alot of the risk of calling Koi-Koi. Another issue is that the Sake Cup is just too powerful. All you need is the Moon or Curtain to end the round. So it's pretty much a race to see who can grab the Sake Cup first to gain a lot of control over the hand. Koi-Koi Japan is still alot of fun. It just would have been nice to have a few rule variations to try to ballance the game out more or change it to your prefered style of play.
I checked again... It looks like the multipliers don't go up as fast. Looks like it's adding points for each time Koi-Koi is called. Calling Koi-Koi 5 times looks like it sets scoring to X3.
