Hackers stole all the crypto in my metamask wallet | DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

  • Woke up this morning to find all the crypto in my MetaMask wallet missing! Be careful when connecting your wallet to sites. Its not worth chasing coins early when you can lose all your money. Stick to the Swaps (uniswap, pancakeswap, spookyswap, etc) and don't let this happen to you!
Just to be clear, I don't keep all my cryptocurrency in one wallet. It's not safe and what happened to me is proof that you could get everything stolen if you did that. Use multiple wallets or store your crypto in a hardwallet!

When hackers get access to a wallet with low funds, they don't drain it right away. They wait for you to build up the wallet, then drain the big bucks, so your wallet might've been compromised way before that day.

So sorry for your loss and thanks for toughing through the loss to help others. One thing is for sure, get yourself a hardware wallet. You can connect the hardware wallet to meta mask and do the approvals. If the hardware wallet is disconnected, you are safe. Keep in mind the hardware wallet does not protect you from blunders like not being careful and approving malicious transactions. Take the time to read token and contract addresses.

I feel your pain man, I lost my wallet in the same way, except mine was a much larger loss, about 5X more. :(. What happened to me was that I fell for a fake site that involved bridging a token from ETH to BSC. The hackers created a site that looked just like the real one, and I connected my wallet and fell for it. Just to emphasize this to everyone, it's not just your seed phrase you have to be careful with, it's the QR code associated with it. If it even hints of scam, don't do it, it’s not worth it. The token I was trying to bridge was only worth $400. This little thing destroyed my whole wallet, full of staked tokens and other stuff worth thousands. I learned my lesson and will continue to invest, although with more extreme caution!! That is crypto.

It has to be something else, being connected to a site does not exposed your private key. Some of the probabilities that can happened to you are the following:
    - You accidently showed the private key while streaming
    - Place or a note that you keep your private key (your digital notepad, google drive, dropbox anything) is compromised
    - You accidently tried to restore your metamask wallet using secret phrase but into the phising site not on metamask
    - Somebody got hold into your computer
    - Most hacks occurred on Windows
    Edited:
    - Downloading illegal files (such as torrent files - movies, software and etc) can infect your machine as well, especially in Windows
I would suggest you really go through every possibility because if you do not get rid of the problem, this can happened to you again

Really sad to hear from you brother, same thing happened to me about 10 days ago, I had a decent amount of money on my wallet around 5k, then I was also using VPN and checking some other website as well, before that I logged in and checked my portfolio then I guess I didn’t logout soon as possible but I did disable MetaMask from brave browser. The funny thing is those websites are nothing related to crypto at all. Long story short they transfer all the coin and unstaked my other coins then send it to their adress :(
Bought a 5k worth of lesson, I feel sorry for your lost man

Thank you for this video. The exact same thing happened to me a week ago. I didn’t lose as much as you, I lost 4k, but it feels really though. It’s one thing to lose 4k from your bank account, but to lose 4k that you put into an investment that you believe in and paid expensive gas fees to get really hurts. And it doesn’t help to see my money grow on a different account on Etherscan and basically as you said can’t do nothing about it. My Ledger Nano X is on its way, not using MetaMask again until I get it.

Wow you're so chill after that loss, congrats an sorry :s.
One thing that might help in the future is layering your security and changing accounts.
Have a wallet for each trust level you give to each website. For exemple you can have an harware wallet ofc, but also you can have multiple accounts on one metamask setup and transfer funds between them. I use one account for testing new sites and switch "risky" accounts regulary. It's not uncommon that I create a new account just to test one fishy website.
I also try to review my accesses on debank from time to time and completely retire every hot wallet I have 4 times a year.
Hope it helps, not sure about the VPN though, really depends on the provider.

Thanks for sharing your painful story. It will help a lot of people. I am getting the idea that all our wallets are being watched carefully by the sites we connect to, and it is very tempting to connect to many places. Once a hacker knows how much you have, they can probably hack your computer pretty easily and wait for you to leave your wallet unlocked, and even they may have bots doing it. It's probably a lot worse than most of us know. As much as I'm against regulation, someone should go after the wallet makers and sue them for making products that are so easy to hack. Of course they will usually be outside the jurisdiction where someone might sue.
