Wait until you have to change the alternator it’s a true pain. Changed my power steering pump then a month later the alternator went bad. Got the chance to remove power steering pump again just to get alternator out. Fun times.
NOOOOO!!!!!!! It sounds like I may just set the car on fire instead. Actually the pump wasn’t that bad. I’ll just know better to remove to pulley before removing the pump and I’ll do better getting the fluid out so it doesn’t leak out everywhere.
I probably would too next time. I didn’t realize the pulley was separate until I opened the box or else I would have swapped the pump when I replaced the rack.
Mine is spitting fluid?? I hear the whine too. I’m pretty sure it’s burnt out, but I can’t tell where it’s spitting fluid from, besides the overflow ports. Can anyone help me? I’m checking to see what kind of extended warranty I bought for my pre-owned 2010 2SS manual coupe…. I hope it covers the power steering…
Hey question just replaced mine and before it sounded how yours did that loud whining noise with a little grinding noise now with this new one it has like a slight whine after I’ve bled the system just wondering if at first your replacement one had a whine when first installed
If I remember correctly it did have a slight whine and some chatter in the steering wheel when turning. Had a little air left in the system after bleeding a few times I suspected. Went away after a little driving. Been smooth and quiet since.
once it starts making that sound will it EVER GO AWAY when it gets warmer ? its minus 40 here in canada and a ps hose popped off and slowly drained the molasses like oil. i put hose back on as soon as i got home and refilled the oil and turn wheel back and forth until frothing and noise stopped. BUT it didnt last long, very next day even after 10 min warmup in minus 40 weather it started making the grindy noise, especially at high RPM. I checked fluid level and it was still on min, so i maxed it but doesnt seem to help
It shouldn’t make a grinding noise. May need to make sure you got all the air out of the system first. If that doesn’t fix the grinding noise, it may be a bad pump. I’ve ran one without fluid by accident before and it was fine after adding fluid and bleeding the air, but I only ran it for a minute. I’m also no expert on Canada cold, it only gets North Texas cold where I’m at which is currently 12 degrees Fahrenheit.

where did you find part #92249334, can't seem to find it anywhere as it says discontinued most places, thankyou
I don’t recall if it was GM Parts Direct or Rock Auto but it was a couple years ago. I just tried to find it and it same luck. Nothing.
