the tone is pretty good but the main reason this sounds so good unlike the other versions (covers) you see on youtube .. is because the dynamics of the picking, vibrato, bends and switching between the pickups and are perfectly and beautifuly done by petrucci he pays good attention to those things unlike most of the guitarists I see who don't really give a shit about them
From 0:51 to 1:39. I've never heard a roller coaster of notes played that way, it's surreal and magical. There are no words to describe it. It's too emotional. Best solo ever.
Legend has it that, every time Petrucci hits a note on a guitar string, and you hear that sweet, sweet, picking sound with his perfect tone and dynamics, an angel gets its wings.
Progression is highly influenced by Mr Crowley (Ozzy), Parisienne Walkway (Gary Moore). Giving Petrucci a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate his modern twist/skills. Simply beautiful. Bravo!!!!!
One of if not the best JP solos.First time I heard it my jaw dropped. The young French guitarist Tina S does a superb rendition of it that I believe the band screened it during the interval at their shows .
Heard many attempts by other guitarists to do this and there was always something missing or overdone, this is just pure. Thanks EriiKarou Beside You for this.
What a lovely guitar solo... Almost à la Gary Moore in a way (I'm fairly sure John thought of him when he recorded that piece), which is no small compliment from me. Fantastic musicianship by Petrucci (as always). Portnoy does compliment this solo in a perfect way with how he accentuates it, but it's cool to hear John's fluid playing on it's own too.
First time I noticed it, but it almost sounds like he has split the solo into multiple takes. Listen to 0:57 - the "tail" of the reverb and delay are abruptly cut. It's either that, or he decided he didn't want the reverb of the prior section bleeding into this one.
Eivind Antonsen I would assume that he just didn’t want it bleeding to the next section, since there really wouldn’t be any other reason for the delay tails to be cut off.
@@jacobhumphrey3535 This is true. In this case Petrucci acts as the producer on their records normally, so it's on some level a conscious choice from him to do this.
I think I just added to the most played section by another 50 runs! My Gosh you really hear the finer nuances in this isolated recording, unbelievable.
It’s so clean it kills 99.9% of germs!
Hahahaha🎉
This tone is unbelievable
This tone is basically
99% John Petrucci's Hands + 0,3% Music Man JP guitar + 0,6% mesa boogie amps + 0,1% effects
the tone is pretty good
but the main reason this sounds so good unlike the other versions (covers) you see on youtube ..
is because the dynamics of the picking, vibrato, bends and switching between the pickups and are perfectly and beautifuly done by petrucci

yousef mahmood my thoughts
you mean he switches between pickups during the solo? also what do you mean by picking, the hand...?
Goosebumps...That's all i can say
Should be a national anthem
dshibbs1027 right?
True comment
\m/ hahahahah \m/
fuck yeahh
ho! yes you're right
Possibly the best lead tone I've ever heard.
Best of Times solo? Or best solo of all time?
True talk!
no
ahh we see what you did there, underrated comment.
Best isolated of solo times
Both.
From 0:51 to 1:39. I've never heard a roller coaster of notes played that way, it's surreal and magical. There are no words to describe it. It's too emotional. Best solo ever.
love this part too
Honestly dude puts feel into every single one of those notes 😩
It’s very classical musically inspired. Listen to Beethoven and Bach and the like and you’ll hear the influences. Sounds amazing
I really love all the emotion he can convey in every single note
yeah
And people still say Petrucci is just a shedder with no feeling dude... this is just as amazing as anything can be
No one says it
@@diamondsfuns924 Many mainstream metal/rock listeners do lol
@@diamondsfuns924 they do. you'd be surprised how many comments hes gotten
those people are brain dead
1:22 that delay just brings it home 😫😫
So much awesomeness, so much Petrucciness
wow
hehehhhe I love you man
The best guitar solo of the 21st century so far....
In a world where Breaking all Illusions doesn't exist..😇
listen to Avenged Sevenfold
@@lane48877 I love Avenged Sevenfold and Synister Gates is an amazing player. 🤘🤘
@@tomrafal3655 that's awesome!! what is your favourite solo of him?
@@lane48877 probably the end solo from Lost.
Legend has it that, every time Petrucci hits a note on a guitar string, and you hear that sweet, sweet, picking sound with his perfect tone and dynamics, an angel gets its wings.
In professional studio recordings can be proccessed every single sound in its every detail.
Inspired a generation of guitar players.
Unbelievably emotional
Probably one of the best guitar part ever written
0:52 the best part ever.
the best of solos :dd
Portnoys drumming during this solo elevates it so much more imo, really awesome hearing the beautiful tone though on itself
this solo is so well put together what an absolute legend
The tone and tempo control is just amazing ..
The musicianship is just of an out this world accuracy that only can come when talent combines with a soulful inspiration: unbelievable piece of art.
Progression is highly influenced by Mr Crowley (Ozzy), Parisienne Walkway (Gary Moore). Giving Petrucci a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate his modern twist/skills. Simply beautiful. Bravo!!!!!
También escucho algo de Jason Becker
i can see how iits influenced my parisienne walkways - thats just beautiful
very true
It's official , JP is God !!! Holy fuck, that clean sound can break glass!!!
Incredibile. Un mostro. Il mostro
I can't handle this soul so much
So much feeling and soul in this guitar solo!
The worst thing about this solo is it ends ❤️
1:09 Those super fast and clean trills, combined with the panned echo creates a very cool sound that I don't think I've heard in any other song.
Petrucci is the best guitarist in the past 2 decade. And I have a vai tattoo on my chest...petrucci's tone is perfect
The best solo ever written.
"Petrucci plays without soul". Yeah right.
Dr Viossy more much better! Yeahh...
@@shamm354 I think Andrea Boma Bocarussa did just as phenomenal a job.
well... he play with his hands...so...
@@eg6860 best comment ever!
Sham M Viossy is great, but Petrucci is the greatest.
Crazy how you can make out all the little nuances and dynamics he puts in this solo. IMO that's what makes this such a crazy bitch of a solo to cover.
Goosebumps.
Amazing! Every note is clear
this solo is amazing, i love the solo of "Breaking all ilutions" too
My god that solo is just as awesome. Love the second part where the intensity elevates and petrucci just went full god mode.
One of if not the best JP solos.First time I heard it my jaw dropped. The young French guitarist Tina S does a superb rendition of it that I believe the band screened it during the interval at their shows .
That girl is fucking awesome too. Love to hear her playing
Dr Viossi's cover is the truest to the original one
This solo is a tear-jerker. Had to pause cause the emotion gets a bit overwhelming.
So beatiful , so fuckin killer , so UNBELIEVABLE

Even on its own, it sounds so majestic and beautiful. Maybe even better this way
awesome tone, for sure, the best I've ever heard
Space and time come together , Holy fuck , JP is an Alien !!!
without backing track..it still great..wow
Better*
0:57 - the delay on the back stops, so I guess it was split here for some reason and recorded separately.
It's tough to play it perfectly in one take
Clean and clear ❤❤❤
Never in my life I have liked and favorited a video so fast.

A lot of times guitarists will do multiple takes of a solo and the producer will pick and choose what they like best from the different takes.
@@jacobhumphrey3535 This is true. In this case Petrucci acts as the producer on their records normally, so it's on some level a conscious choice from him to do this.
