  • Today is all about the main factors that differentiate turns, and how to read them! We focus on three main things: The camber (amount of support), the radius (shape of the turn), and the conditions (plus general surface). By noting these major components, it will help you navigate each unique turn and carry more speed.

    ABOUT LINNEA ROOKE
    Linnea has been racing locally in the pro category, but until this year she had almost no formal training and was held back by major gaps in her technique. While she was able to carry speed well on straight downhills and high-bermed turns, she lacked foundational cornering skills and was timid in the air. In Feb 2020, she met up with Fluidride to help with a filming trip in Baja, and was fascinated by Simon's teaching methods. Wanting to be part of this mission, she left her career in healthcare in July 2020 to officially join the Fluidride team as COO. We started filming this series to document her journey of cleaning up bad habits, adding new skills to her toolkit, and chasing her dream of riding with style.

      Thanks Ryan. I have been asked to do a few over the years and have certainly coached a lot of riders in ways which transfers off the bike. I love that kind of work. If you have ideas, feel free to send to me at simon@fluidride.com. Thanks Ryan! -Simon

    I rode in Baha once, rented a hardtail... learned very quickly not to touch ANYTHING, lol. It's a weird place... Linnea, your riding is progressing, you're looking pretty fast! 🤘

    thanks for the video. back to riding after some years off and the desert here in Tucson is like nothing ive ridden before.
    what helped a lot was ditching the more round profile of the stock tires on the bike to something more squared off. huge difference in all this loose, flat cornering.

    Loving these videos! Maybe less relevant to this series, but would love to see your tips for crazy tight downhill switchbacks - I’m practically stopping and dabbing on those all the time. Keep it up- production quality looking great! 🤙

    You guys should come to Las Vegas area sometime where we have loose rock mixed with gravel in these sorts of turns, and you might also have one or more large rock somewhere in the turn that you can’t ignore.

    • @Fluidride

    Linea mentions that the left turns are hard for her, but with her dominate foot on the outside, shouldn't left turns be easier? I'm left foot in front too (right foot dominate) and I feel most comfortable with left turns.

    This type of terrain is one of the most difficult corners. down hill, corner and steep oustside. The last before/after, I can't tell the difference.

  • @dennispikephotography

    When I’m working on cornering, I definitely have been keeping footwork in my head a lot. It seems like the motion of dropping your foot also causes the correct hip rotation for directing the turn. Is that happening naturally
    With the footwork or is that something separate to consider and work on as well? Thanks!

    • @Fluidride
      @Fluidride  3 года назад +1

      YES! These two things are what I call 'Inter-Related' meaning each affects the other. Keep these two things working together and you will have a lot less to think about on the trail! -Simon

      @@Fluidride perfect! Thank you! Trying to keep that in my head while I practice so I don’t have to think about it on the trail.

    Can you also talk about wheel size as well and if that affects the cornering? Looks like Linnea is riding 29 er

    • @Fluidride
      @Fluidride  3 года назад +2

      Honestly there isn't really that much difference these days as they are designed so well now. Linnea is just little:). Her bike has 27.5 inch wheels on it, but mine has 29. Her new bike (An Offering) will have 29" wheels. She actually rode the offering for the promo video for evil and loved it. There is a video on this channel called 'Cornering on Big Wheels' which goes into the slight differences, but the differences honestly aren't as big as they used to be due to design improvements. -Simon

    Im suck of everything and cornering is my worst

    • @martinschwartz7342
      @martinschwartz7342 3 года назад +2

      I suck at everything also. Just keep learning and practicing. I recently decided to start at the basics and have been practicing track stands. I have practiced for about a month now and can do them fairly well now but I still suck at everything else. Now I am going to go to a parking lot and practice cornering until I get good at that. Eventually, I will get good at most skills. Don't give up and try practicing one skill over and over until you do it well. Then move on.
