- More than eight million tonnes of plastic is thrown away each year and washed out to sea.
It takes centuries to break down. It's eaten by marine creatures. And it's in our food chain. Your seafood supper may have a synthetic garnish. Scientists just don't know what effects it has on our health.
Sky Ocean Rescue is doing something about it.

i am 12, and i don't want to grow up with this, but i am to young to be heard, it's not fair, do your part, and we can fix this!
Brilliant that Sky is helping to draw attention to this incredibly important issue
your word attention is important, thanks
This is absolutely heartbreaking 💔.
TREMENDOUSLY POWERFUL MESSAGE FOR HUMANITY
My generation and my parents generation will always be remembered as the generation of greed the generation who broke the planet
as an educator i am grappling with how to empower my students to be active participants in the change without the feeling of hopelessness
show them these videos and just make sure that they are aware of the problems that humanity creates and give options on how they can be the change!
We need more people who think like that man
While in vacation, I went snorkeling was amazed at the mess and where we were docked was supposed to be cleaner. It made me very sad and afraid!
I wish more people cared. Ive started my zero waste journey and I have cut out all plastic except for 3 or 4 things of food packaging which i am working on cutting out too. People are just lazy and dont want to eat at home and make things from scratch. They like the convience of purchasing and disposing
In the early 1980's we lived on an island in the med and were constantly asking the beach tourists to politely take their rubbish with them and not to leave it on the beach when they left, we were often met with swearing and threats of violence ! There is the problem, out of sight out of mind we don't care ignorance. I applaud the actions now being taken , but it was happening 40yrs ago so it is now some undertaking,
My dad has a private island 🌴 tourists come then destroy his beach with crisp packets paper bags and bottles then we have to spend hours a day cleaning our beach we try complain but it’s use less so now there is less tourists coming which is sad 😔 but good for our beach
"When we clean our beaches we clean our hearts"
Very powerful message on our need to move away from plastic packaging.
5 years later and still not enough is being done to change this
Really great film should be show to all in school everywhere
Chaosdeception Aaron I'm being shown this for school
Me too
me three
me four
me five
Very informative and I agree, should be shown in schools everywhere.
They should also show Gary Yourofsky' speech "Best Speech Ever"
Luis S.N. Were listening to it at science class
I saw it in school
That's why i'm here
I've been to India twice. They don't have rubbish disposal services: no rubbish bin (garbage can) collections, they have no land fill sites. They have no sewage system. Sadly most of their rubbish is disposed in the ocean. Sad but true. They have to address this.
"I've not come here for sainthood." Afroz Shah
Top notch :)
Lets help each other by saving plastic from the shoreline. In this pandemic time .. I lost my job .. So I decided to do coastal clean up everyday. So I can help by saving our mother earth .
I had to watch this in an ethics lesson
I'm watching this in a foods class lol
its good see this video and share this video and save the planet from the plastic
yep
Really a sad state of affairs. It's equally amazing that this video has been online 6.5 months as of Aug. 7, 2017, but has fewer than 26,000 thousand views and only 28 comments!
It's the same with other docu's about plastic pollution Rod. It's just no a very popular topic, no wonder it got to this point.
It shows 268000 views, not 26000 and 249+ comments
Everyone can help!
So they gather up all the plastic on the beach. Wonderful. But then what is done with it? It goes to the landfill which might be a long way from the beach. But then comes a flood which inundates the landfill and some of that plastic enters the waterway again and winds up on the beach yet again to be gathered up and taken back to the landfill. It all needs to be converted into some sort of construction material to build roads or buildings...free houses for the homeless!!!
Oh my Lord. Have mercy on us. We have got to do something huge to change. Oh Lord those poor bird's. Poor us.
Needed to watch and summarize a documentary about the oceans environmental problems for an assignment and I’m damn as well happy I found one that’s entertaining as well
I live in Gwynedd and I go down to Barmouth beach and find lots of beer bottles and rubbish. I feel really good collecting just 10 items and put the in the recycle bin. A few years ago we had a Sunday with over 100 just cleaning the rubbish from the beach. It’s a great feeling. We all need to do are part. If we don’t the oceans will die.
Its common knowledge that our recyclables go to southeast asia, and cant stop anyone from doing it.for decades, our recyclables have been going to china, but now they refuse it.we have a recycling crisis and might as well put garbage in landfills.its happening all around the world.get educated.
MORE PEOPLE SHOULD SEE THIS!!!! WHY ONLY 177 "LIKES" :(
Paper and wax milk cartons might be a better way to go for selling servings of water, instead of plastic bottles. Many people now have their own water containers and no longer purchase water in disposable plastic bottles. Straws could go back to paper, too, like they were in the 50's and early 60's. There are now biodegradable disposable spoons and forks. Go back to paper shopping bags, or bring your own.
I have 1 gallon bottles that I use to store water I get from a wonderful public running spring underground water. I have a reusable insulated water bottle . I use cleanable silicon straws..no overuse of paper products. We just have too much garbage..too many people is also the issue. Some of it is just common sense and being responsible.
We buy our milk, cream, and half and half in glass bottles that are recycled. If I can’t buy the milk in glass I continue to buy in the old style wax cartons to avoid plastic. My daughter bought me stainless steel telescoping straws with a little cleaning brush.
It is such an important issue and the view count is even more worrying, most people just do not care. I myself always do my bit, i recycle every little piece of plastic/cardboard and also combine every dog walk with a litter sweep in my area and the amount that i pick up is just criminal.
we have organised another beach clean Weymouth Beach Dog Walkers Dorset UK on Sunday 29th at 12 midday. We have a sea soup of plastic our fish, birds and animals eat everyday and so are we. #Keep Britain Tidy #Clean coast #two minute litter pick
Food packaging is most of the throw out stuff. We need to come up with a bio material that can be used for food safe packaging to prevent contamination and food storage once we get it home. there are waxed wraps sold in different sizes that are meant to be reusable, if washed properly. We have to slow down and get used to washing again on a larger scale. I don't know how much percentage is disposable diapers. (can't these be made of waxed paper and cotton somehow ?).
There have been so many products made ... sadly they are more expensive than plastics at this point.
My health food store is using plant-based cellophane to wrap the cheese portions that they cut from the larger bulk cheese blocks for purchase.
I like the expression in the boys face at 43:30. Looks like he thinks"Why is that guy bullshitting me?"
The companies that make the plastic bags, bottles, etc should be helping to clean up the oceans sense they created the problem
Bravo to that man that cleans India’s beaches
thats me
Just saw it, it made me think deeply about my relation with plastics.
NicSasha
Makes me want to go out and pick up rubbish.
I already do. I don’t live near the ocean but I do pick up trash & dispose of it in our local “waste to energy” recycling center...
Thamus Jones do it I do
People do that, I saw it on the news. When they go our for a walk or a jog, they take with them a bag and pick up all the trash and rubbish they see. I forget what they called it.
@@angelajeanjones I do everyday. I shudder to think what my neighborhood and nearby woods would look like if I did not do it. When I first started one whole hillside by a local school was like looking at a blanket of bags, plastic bottles, tin cans, and other trash. I get to take my walk everyday and see green. One day the woods I keep clean had needles and a hazard box somebody left. Totally horrible next to a middle school. I took it out and got it properly disposed. People still do not pick up thier dog poo. That is another problem for some areas.I did not know there was a name for people who just wanted their neighborhoods to be clean.
I guess no one but only us can do the miracle. Just say no just no to plastic..
Poor people
Bass Kaissi, it is extremely shocking and how disgraceful on politicians doing nothing. It was excellent presentation.
politicians aint gonna fix it, we all have to change
Its not the single use plastic is the proble it is a problem with dealing with what is collected by the rubbish men and not dealt with by local autjhorities
This is horrible to know that other people’s life’s are affected so much because of my and other people’s selfishness and now the whole earth is going to pay for it
We have seen this in our class.
It is pretty good
Rashmi Devi yes, its very informative
Well this is more depression than I needed today.
The heads of corporations who manufacture these materials should be made to visit the places shown. They need to see and smell first hand the impact of how the world environment and humanity is being destroyed. As long as they are allowed to manufacture these plastics, the issue will only worsen.
We are insane ....what else can one say
we are given 40 trashcans repeat 40 trash cans given now
on my street..peep this I needed a trash bag for the trash blowing everywhere .......on the morning of 2019 Dec 29 drove through a town noooo trash anywhere...peep this not one trash can
There should be a waste management team just for the Ocean world wide, it would create jobs for people and help save our ecosystem. A win win!!! But we live in such a careless and selfish world.....😢 someday the devastation will be so bad it will be to late. It's already started...
Sounds like someone needs to go after the plastics manufacturers
Turn that plastic into diesel and petrol
Who invented plastic they must be proud
a pyrolosys reactor ( as mall one anyway) would be helpful to this guys cause taking the plastic away forever
Why are these plastic not recycle into building blocks to build small houses for the poor and needy.
The UK has been using plastic long before India has, and yet indias beaches are covered in it. Plastic has its uses but if its not disposed of properly it is extremely dangerous for the environment. India do not have the infrastructure to deal with plastic waste, but still has the appetite for its convenience
Why doesn't BBC do this...
It hurts to see this
We reap what we sow. We are doomed because our ignorance and our indifference. SAD !!
This is beautiful 🤞
This is 3 years ago nothing changed
Who are the 73 assholes that disliked this documentary?!
How very very sad.
Amazing Report The Ocean is vomiting up this plastic
Every piece of plastic in the ocean has gone there from the hand of a human, people need to take individual resonnsibility for the mess we have made, it;s not our world we actually share it with other species of marine and animal life. Each generation should behave and act as the caretakers for the next generation.
The question is WhO is doing the dumping? Most people living by the sea dont go out and throw stuff in the water.
Thanks for this. Riveting expose may alert us humans to correct our ramifications of habit chucking plastic into the water, as out of sight out of mind. Thanks
Living in the plastic age .
lakerboy72 Dieing in the plastic age.
Just don’t know what to say too upsetting what we are doing to our self’s
This is our home that we’re trashing. We are all ultimately part of this planets ecosystem in one way or another.
Brilliant coverage of this issue. The ocean is fundamental to life on earth and the ingestion of plastics through the food chain WILL affect your health. Plastic already is implicated in some tumor development and endocrinological problems.
Why are there dislikes on the video?
Because it's gov lead propaganda. All this has only come about because the Chinese have reduced their plastic recycling industry. Would prefer being told the truth rather than gov/media working together to pull my heart strings.
Ivan Piña there are dislikes for this video because people don't like to hear the truth. It means they may have to address it and change their behavior.
Made me look up volunteer websites and see how I can help environmentally. This is truly a world wide problem.
That is good but it is merely addressing the symptom of the problem. And the problem is ALL of us using these plastics. One main solution is to drastically cut back on our personal use of plastics - that includes (and not restricted to) totally stop buying any ''food and drink'' in plastic/semi-plastic packaging, eschewing the takeaway and convenience culture and restricting online purchases to essentials. Buy produce from farmers' markets as most/all chain supermarts now use excessive plastic packaging for fruits and vegetables.
I was likely the first to address ocean plastic almost 30 years ago in a series of lawsuits that lasted for 20 years. It's not our fault it's governments and industry and will cause our demise long before anything else.
it is impossible to buy anything in the supermarkets without plastic wrapping 🥺 I tried but failed...
Sadly true...
Vaya frank se ha marcado esta
Scary that I'll live until 2050.
What will this plastic do in our brains? Cause seizures? Make us stupid?
TheChats02
Can humanity get even more stupid? I don't think so ...
Aha, this video for 5 years ago until now!? It seem to be not change!?
When the yellow cart conveyer belt system is operating, the problem will end before they connected the lines, if they still build it this time around. The "Cronological positioner" really messed with my head.
Makes me wonder what's in the food I eat everyday and what's in my stomach no wonder why people get sick or get cancer and so forth
There is no way I eat fish or meat anymore. I quit when I worked in a grocery store wrapping meat for customers. That was 57 years ago and I am very healthy.
Wow From the Lemons family, Save Earth.
this is me dropping a line telling youtube people want more content like this. 🌏🌊🌴☀️🌅🇵🇭💚🤎💙
This is terrible.....why don't the people there clean it up? They use the Beach, let them work for it.....I would do it..... I would not want to be stepping in all this crap.....
The movement of micro-plastics up-wards through-out the food chain, is both alarming and sad.
How do they dispose of it after they pick it up though
Plastic is just the tip of the iceberb.
I can't bare this I cannot stop crying ! LOOK what we have done to our Lords creation,Please Jesus help us not to be so full of ignorance ! God bless this man help him Lord keep him healthy ,he is so important to this ignorant world 🌏
Yep!
Let's create awareness in people
This is just pure laziness. Why do we even need plastic shopping bags?
I live in WA state and most places here banned plastic bags. People carry small reusable nylon bags with them. It is crazy to see plastic bags everywhere. No need for them as a way to just carry things.
Plastic has so many positive uses in industry-shops -schools -doors and windows in our many new buildings -that last for many years. But scientists and governments do need to URGENTLY find affordable ways to recycle and re-use and to clean up the plastic pollution in oceans and rivers and countryside that destroys wild life and will affect humans too
Well done that man in Mumbai.
👪👍🏻merci de pensé a nos enfants 👪👍🏻👍👍🏾
It's extinction or plastic...
I guess we have made our choice...
A mechanical rotary rake and sand shaker should make beach clean up much easier or less labor intensive, as well as some what more expensive, I suppose however, that the use of manual labor allows individuals to be more plastic-pollution conscious and progressively involves more and more members within a given locality, in one way or another.
This report is from 2017, its almost 2021 and nothing has changed.. shame on us all
Save the Beach from the people, not from Plastic!!!
Ohhhh can't to sleep now 🤨😬😒☹️
Turtles mistake plastic bags for jelly fish
and filter feeders take in the stuff smaller than can be seen
SO SO SICKEING..
If we used the suppressed new technology..... Food Printers that would mean no packaging.......cleaner beaches aye....?
I have no problem in plastic manufacturing. I believe plastics at this point in time is essential to life. We just need to work on how to dispose of plastics....
We just need to work out how to dispose of the Chinese.
i wish we knew how to fix this problem for good.
