Who has the means, the opportunity and the MOTIVE to do this? Russia could have opened or closed the flow on their end any time they please. No motive. Ukraine has no submarines. No means. The United States has dozens of submarines, can't allow Russian profits and given that it's an area of conflict, it's a sure bet that they have assets in the area.
I'm not so sure about any of those conclusions. Russia may want to cut it but have it appear it was nothing to do with them. The means to attack a underwater pipeline doesn't nesesarilly require OWNERSHIP of a submarine, so Ukraine isn't completely out. US? Its always them, they have the means but the motive is wishy washy because this also hurts the EU. You can't even rule out well organised terrorism/activism. There's more going on here is the only thing you can be sure of. If they have been damaged by explosion I'd be curious to hear what the mass spectroscopy comes up with. Bombs come with signatures.
Anyone who benefits from what happens when geopolitical uncertainty increases has something to gain. For example, oil and gas prices might rise just from anxiety and uncertainty. Additionally, just causing chaos and paranoia can be of benefit.
Not Ukraine, The nordstream1 across Ukraine, Ukraine didn't destroy it. if Ukraine did it why reserve nordstream1 but destroy nordstream2? Besides, Ukraine don't have the means

@UC5ltu_YFP1gyAzQzWxKK4vw Seems logical in some respects. Gas moves at fairly high volume at low pressure and if a sudden high pressure event happens on or near the pipe like an explosion its logical to assume there would be check valves in numerous spots along the path of a pipeline that would open to protect the rest of the pipeline downstream. The leak kinda proves there was gas in the line unless its just air. Supposedly they had been shut off so it raises the question of why there is a gas leak in the middle of a pipeline that has allegedly been shut off.
There can never be a better alternative for energy to Europe than Russia. But ofcourse they can choose the costliest and the hardest. From middle east, Africa and America
Ukraine and US are the most of all interested in closing Nord Stream. Because the only gas pipeline is going now through ukrainian territory. And US will make a huge profit selling its LPG to Europe. Ukraine itself is not able to blow up the pipe. Therefore, the British or US could do it. It is only my assumption though. Russia could not do it, what for? If Russia wished to, it could just turn off the valve.
WHY DOESN'T ANYONE HERE SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE PIPES WERE NOT IN USE. THIS WILL NOT AFFECT SUPPLY. This is Russia trying to scare people who think that this will be a problem for the EU, because they don't realize that these pipes were not in use, and would never have come back into use (nobody is going to be buying gas from Russia in the future). THIS IS RUSSIA HAVING A TEMPER TANTRUM AND BLOWING UP THEIR OWN PIPES, BECAUSE NOBODY WANTED TO USE THEM.
@@graveperil2169 Correct. The German Green coalition is OK for now but the seeds of dissent are already there. Now winter is coming the calls from German industry to switch the gas from NS back on are getting louder. Strategically it makes zero sense for Russia to sabotage the state monopoly's own export pipeline, because they have the ability to switch off the turbines, which they already did. It's about not allowing the pressure to build up from within Germany. America sanctioned everyone for building NS2. When Germany signed the deal with Russia to buy in euros was the moment the USA couldn't allow it to go ahead because it bypasses the petrodollar system. If Germany don't need to keep buying US Treasury bonds for energy supply - no country would and at that point the ability to control already severe inflation in the States is finished, along with the US dollar global currency reserve. It's that serious. Biden even said they will never allow supply of gas from Russia ... but the kicker was that is was denominated in euros not dollars.

Russia already had the power to stop the gas flow and also to start it again. Now it doesn’t have that leverage. So it has not gained but lost from this event. That is why it is unlikely that Russia did this.

1 or 2 leaks could be written off as a natural burst, dozens of leaks could be written off as a massive structural failure of the pipes, but 3 leaks is suspicious as humans tend to operate on rules of 3. Edit: recently learned that these pipes are encased in concrete and Norway registered a 2.2 seismic burst on the Richter scale around the time of the pipe failure. If Russian gas was shut off then the pressure in the pipe would not have increased but rather decreased, if what was left in the pipes was being siphoned the closest thing that would have happened was an implosion but that wouldn't have left 3 holes.
Think about the cold and the forces the pipe is under with water and being underwater. A microfracture in the pipe structure can spread fast and cause multiple leaks.
1 or 2 leaks make more leaks once things Crack under water and pressure..I have no doubt faulty maintenance..but it's so easy point the blame on the us government...but not those Canadian or American businesses that own the gas and oil companies right

It sounds quite unlikely, the uproar from Europe would be insane if this was indeed the US. The entire world was already against Russia, its a far stretch to suggest the USA would risk this position of a morale high ground just to make sure there wasnt a small chance Germany would start trading some gas from Putin again. Way way too much too lose and too little to gain. Putin on the other hand has almost nothing to lose at this point, but everything to gain by perhaps hoping the world will now point the finger at the USA, even if there will be no evidence found for who actually did it (or maybe exactly because of that).

U.S. Biden said he would put an end to the Nord Steam pipelines. He made good on his world. What follows nobody knows. However things never stay the same.
Victoria Nuland, Jan 27: "If Russia invades Ukraine, one way or another, Nord Stream 2 will not move forward."
Joe Biden, Feb 7: "If Russia invades Ukraine then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it. I promise you we will be able to do that."
Family guy reference
Russia is not the imposter 😳😳😳
You're out of your mind, Russia built it with its own money, it won't profit them to blow it up, look at the LNG exporters
Did Biden talk about it 7 months ago?
Ya in late feb.
Who benefits from damaging the pipes.. why would someone destroy it

Russia if the gas prices go up. They decided in July to stop using the pipelines anyway but may have thought that markets will think it is a big deal. I am also afraid this may be preparation to attack other pipelines like the Norway-German one.

Exactly. When asked how he would stop something not in his control he said he would stop it.

$200 million dollars profit per LNG shipment from USA. Someone has to make sure gas will not flow through those pipelines.
Не хотят немци и подобные им слазить с дешового газа , ну ничего США поможет господам с проблемой.
Xensation writes:
"It is actually 3 different leaks.
1 in each of the pipelines at close proximity to each other, north to Bornholm.
A third is south-east to Bornholm.
Both Swedish and Danish earthquake detectors have sensed serious explosions from the areas.
Both pipelines are in-active with no gas flowing, but a substantial amount of gas is still contained in the lines, to keep up the pressure.
Causes are unknown, but authorities have aired theories of sabotage."
The probability the concurrent leaks were due to system failure must be less than 0.00001%. In other words this is sabotage. Ask yourself who has the most to gain from this action? Would it be Venezuela? Or Uganda? Or Egypt? Or the US????????
(1) The US would gain from having no competition with Russian gas (should Nord Stream be activated); (2) US LNG would immediately be priced higher on the news
(3) The US could use the EU's dependency on US LNG to effect its foreign policy
(4) The US would further damage Russia by crippling her main gas pipelines.
Ukraine and Russia have nothing to do with it. Both are scapegoats to cover up US clandestine operations at sea.
"Ukraine and Russia have nothing to do with it" Russia already stoped delivering the gas via this pipes and on top of it Gasprom directors started to fall out of the window... and now countries like Germany and Poland preparing case for international court to force Russia to pay billions of dollars in reparations for all the contracts that they broke by stopig the gas delivery... so yea obiously its USA fault as they have so much to gain by blowing pipe line that is not operational and on top of it the whole blowing up part would destroy relations betwen USA and its allies...
You misconceive that NS2 was said to be unnecessary to supply Europe sufficiently. NS1 is still existing and operational, but actually not delivering. So where are those rising gas prices? Your nonsense comment is mere speculation and nothing but grey conspiratorial theory. You are a Putin troll.
I think it's a lone wolf attack, some scuba diving stuff, flippers and a nuclear submarine is all you need

200-300 feet of water. It's a very serious dive.

It's a very convenient time for 3 leaks of this magnitude to occur. Especially when something like this has never happened before. There would also be very few nations with ROV's or Subs capable of damaging these pipelines.

This is the problem with having a foreign agent within your lands, they can blatantly provoke their enemies and you get targeted, just like they killed Iran's commander in Iraq and threatened Iraq with sanctions when they asked them to leave the territory as they were ruining their relationship with Iran.
Its just to send a message.
What's the impact of saltwater intrusion throughout the length of pipes? Sounds like Russia is the ultimate loser in this scenario.
Russia is the ultimate loser, if they think that they will be able to use it as an excuse for breaking all the gas contracts then i thinking that they are wrong and international courts gonna charge them for every loss caused by Russian actions.
