My favourite fact is that, originally, Mauls Saber was his original Episode 1 one, and it was Sam Witwer who told them that didn't make sense, and that it has to be his Rebels saber. Amazing they didn't know that. But he got it changed.

This movie is so damn underrated and it’s frustrating that more people don’t talk about it I always thought Alden didn’t really look like Han but he sounds exactly like him and has his mannerisms down people who first saw and dismissed it should really give it a rewatch

Sadly, Solo was collateral damage after The Last Jedi. Most people I know skipped it in theaters but ended up enjoying it when it finally came to Netflix (before moving to Disney+). It’s just a fun Star Wars that doesn’t take itself seriously. When Star Wars tries too hard, it usually fails.

    • @dadrand0m
      @dadrand0m 2 года назад

100% agree! I skipped it due to seeing TLJ in theaters. Left such a bad taste I wrote off the franchise. I caught Solo streaming one night and was blown away. I thought it was seriously awesome! Yes, it had some flaws. But damn, it was a fun ride!

@@bengjerde5209 agree with you completely and so does the vast majority of people who saw it. Casting Woody Harrelson didn’t help at all either. Someone said it was collateral damage of The Last Jedi. That’s preposterous. Not that I cared much for it but, TLJ wasn’t a flop at the box office so how could Solo be collateral damage from it? Makes no sense. One reason I believe is that because Rouge One was so good people expected the same quality, which it was nowhere close.

The saddest part about this movie tanking was that it was that it was boycotted by a large number of SW fans. The movie was great and I thought that the story was enticing, but unfortunately after ep. 7 being not so great and ep. 8 being absolutely terrible, SW fans were fed up with how D were ruining the franchise of one of the most beloved film series to date. I witnessed from a lot of chats and videos that a good amount of SW fans were not going to pay the money to see it. This is sad because RO is the best of the new films and is a "spinoff" itself like Solo.

I feel like the biggest thing going against Solo was it’s release window. It released WAY too close to the Last Jedi; and while that movie was profitable, it left a bad taste in the mouth of moviegoers who weren’t too thrilled to return. The reshoots and budget bloat didn’t help, either.

i am a massive star wars fan. read all the comics seen played all the games and up till the last jedi i had seen all the movies. solo was the first star wars movie released in my live time that i did not see in theaters and episode 9 is the first star wars movie i have not seen. the last jedi took away any enthusiasm i had for anything star wars under Disney. and despite Disney having some good additions to the universe in the Mandalorian and clone wars season 7 i have still yet to reach the point where i will once again watch anything star wars. and to be quite honest i dont know if i ever will reach that point again.
that said having seen solo a few years after its release i will say i was not impressed. i mean i was really hyped to see hans service in the empire and thought it would be an excellent chance to expand hans character and thought it would have been a great way to explain why han is selfish on the outside and unwilling to join up with larger causes in a new hope. but instead of getting that movie we got a space heist movie with the absolute worst payoffs for key moments in hans past like his first meeting with Chewbacca. honestly my thoughts coming out of the movie was that this movie did not need to happen. so in short i think that the reason people did not go to see the movie is largely due to the last jedi but the movie itself does not exactly do anything that warrants the ticket price and in all honesty its so bad i would argue people are better off skipping it so they can keep hans mysterious background over this new boring background.

I agree. I've always said that if Solo was released in the December timeframe that all the other Disney era Star Wars movies were released in, the movie would have made a lot more money. Keeping the movie in May, a few months after the last movie, with tremendous competition (with Infinity War being the 2 Billion pound elephant in the room ) at the time significantly hurt the movie's potential.

I rather enjoyed the LAWRENCE KASDAN written and RON HOWARD directed Solo. There are many hating it that didn't even try it (now I didn't say all). Director of Willow instead of two Lego directors, sounds good
It's not like Alden Ehrenreich is a Harrison Ford replacement, he's YOUNG Han Solo like River Phoenix and Sean Patrick Flannery are YOUNG Indiana Jones. Ewan McGregor is YOUNG Obi-Wan Kenobi, nobody acts like they recast Alec Guinness. If you watch Star Wars in the correct order, Harrison Ford is the replacement if you're still insistent a younger version of the character is a recast
So the movie contradicts Ann Crispin's trilogy (just think of it as an alternate timeline), but Brian Daley's trilogy can still work 👍. Half expected Alden Ehrenreich to be slashed across the chin, but that can happen in Han Solo and the Lost Legacy
I just love Emilia Clarke, I'm sure she'd look great as an alien. Qi'ra, mother of Krayt Dragons, her fate is my biggest question. Maul's fate is continued in Rebels
One could say Peter Serafinowicz is YOUNG Darth Maul, and Ashley Eckstein is YOUNG Ahsoka (her force ghost gets younger like Anakin lol 😝).
Might have to do an animated show, hard for Alden Ehrenreich to be YOUNG Han Solo if they wait until he's over the age of Harrison Ford of 1977

I feel that alongside the Reshoots, Delays and lack of marketing... The Movie suffered by the divided opinion of the Disney Sequel Trilogy...
... A real shame as Honestly, Disney has done FAR BETTER WORK with Side Stories than the Sequels they did! (I do like the Sequels, I am not a Sequel hater - But I doubt anyone will deny that the the TV Shows, Spin offs and Cartoons have been FAR BETTER than those movies!)

I do like the Sequel Trilogy but GOD THERE ARE SO MANY MIS-STEPS!!! I mean, I admire Rian Johnson trying to do "Something different" but he is untested with Sequels as he HATES Sequels - Hence we will never see a LOOPER 2 despite fan demand!!!
And as much as I adore JJ Abrams most of the time - He played it way too safe!
With the Spin offs and Side Stories... Disney have allowed people to take risks... The Mandalorian which I was sceptical about was AWESOME, Book of Boba Fett was GREAT! I am now even looking forward to the OBI-WAN Series... Despite being a purist who said "NO! WE DO NOT NEED TO KNOW WHAT OBI WAN WAS DOING WHILE IN EXILE!!!"
I mean, I am 49 Years old - OLDER than Star Wars itself... So if the TV Shows can change my stance... They have a team thats doing something RIGHT! Maybe thats who should have done the movies!

if im making a solo origin story im getting rid of the whole romance and heist plots. i dont know who thought it was a good idea to give han a love interest in this and make the movie a space heist movie but they should be fired. if im making this movie i dont start with the solo we know i start with the solo we dont. i put him in the empire and make him dedicated to the cause. during his service in the empire i make him go from a young idealistic rookie to the selfish smuggler who is hesitant to join larger causes and i give him a good reason for that hesitancy.
i keep the mentor who ends up betraying han part but i make it a corrupt commanding officer that ends up framing han for his crimes. this not only gives han a good reason to turn to a life of crime (he was forced into it) but it also explains why when luke and obiwan meet han on tattoine he has the mindset to only lookout for himself (his trusted mentor betrayed him). and finally i put han on kasshyk during the enslavement of the wookies and have that be where han meets chewie. the enslavement of the wookies would be a major part of the movie with han at first thinking the empire is doing the right thing because of imperial propaganda only to learn over the course of the movie about what is actually going on and finally after being betrayed by his mentor han on the run from the empire in the jungles of kashyk frees chewie and some other wookies from captivity and they all try to escape together with han and cheewie leading them.
han smuggling the wookies off planet would serve as his inspiration for becoming a smuggler in the first place and the majority of the movie being dedicated to han and chewie's relationship forming during the imperial campaign on kashyk with chewie playing a major role in showing han how evil the empire actually is and han playing a major role in rescuing chewie and some of his fellow wookies would serve as a much better base for their relationship then what we got in solo.

Eventho it wasn't a bad movie, arguably better than the sequels. I still think it was a good thing that it bombed. Making disney reconsider their entire strategy and push the breaks when people were getting tired of the milking and the confusing direction they were taking.
I rather prefer star wars movies to be specially once in a while events that take careful planning and consideration. Although I rather enjoy the flow of star wars series

I wasn't just blown away by this movie, but I did like it. I liked seeing his back story, how he became a smuggler, how he met chewy, and how he came to own the millennium falcon. I thought it was entertaining and it didn't leave me disappointed. What leaves me disappointed is that they threw Darth Maul in at the end, and nothing ever came of it. They should do a D+ series or something to bring us more Maul. They can still do this! Whether they had a Maul series featuring Han Solo and company, or a Han series with Maul as the antagonist. I would watch either, or both!

I think a large deal of why ut underperformed was that it was released so soon after TLJ, which left a lot of people with a sour taste for the franchise. Had they waited the standard year I believe it would've earned way more money (and I would probably have gotten to see more of live action Darth Maul which is one of my favorite characters)

I think Disney keeps switching between English with arubesh letters (inconsistently) and choosing the name Solo because he's "alone" clearing means they are leaning into Etymology, referencing the Latin alphabet. This happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, so having a name as a derivative of latin languages seems super weird. Didn't stop me from enjoying it, just one of those oddities that stands out.

I liked Solo, and even though it wasn't as a satisfying ending as Episodes IV or VI, I read the books when I was younger, and I knew what was coming. The sequels are better than just the Kessel run in "less than" 12 parsecs. Qi'ra betrays Han on more than one occasion, and we see him work for Jabba the Hutt. I don't remember Darth Maul, but this was pre-Phantom Menace.

The movie got a lot of bad press before the release because of the directors being let go and reshoots. This turned people off before the movie got off the ground unfortunately. IMO a solid caper film and introduction Solo and his motivations. There was definitely chemistry between Chewy and Solo and we got to see who he modelled his mannerisms after. Glovers performance was pitch perfect. Hans casting, the love interest, Vos, Bennett and the Easter egg of Maul was very well conceived.
Much better than any of the post trilogy. Look the Force Awakens was a carbon copy of A New Hope, the Last Jedi was just a bizarre mess and the Rise of Skywalker? Well all I will say is let’s have alien horses riding on top of star destroyers.....how could they let Kennedy do this to this franchise.

Honestly, Solo was great. Wasn’t a big fan of the creative decisions they made like Han and Chewie’s first interaction, Kessel no longer being a massive asteroid loaded with spice, and Han no longer being Corellian royalty. Those are the ones that are kinda hard to live with BUT! It was a fun movie in the end. I really want more adventures with young Han and Chewie. A partners in crime show would be fantastic!
