- Steamboating to Discovery Bay, California and back. Intended to eat at the restaurant at the Discovery Bay Marina, but they were closed for renovations. I'm told they'll be open soon. We ordered pizza and had it delivered to the marina instead 🤓.
On our way back we passed @AuroraRestorationProject We enjoy seeing the progress every time we pass by. Развлечения
Nothing beats a ride on a steamer on a rainy day! :-)
There's an old freighter on the great lakes being cut up in Port Colborne, ON. Her engine is in the process of being disassembled to be taken to a mueseum, but her boilers are being cut up I think. The freighter's name is the S. T. Crapo (cray-poe), she was the last coal fired freighter on the lakes, just thought as a steam enthusiast you should know.
Thank you! I was wondering what they were going to do with her main engine. I'm glad it's being preserved!
Right now they have the cylinder block, pistons and main rods off, if you would like I can email you a photo.
@@awildjared1396 I would love that. wharcourt-at-gmail.com
@@awildjared1396 are all the deck winches and engine room accessory engine gone, or are there still some left?
@@WesleyHarcourtSTEAMandMORE No, only her keel as high as the propeller shaft from her boilers aft.
Bonjour Wesley,
I like definitely Persistance even if I never could store her in my 5th floor flat 😁
I hear the compound running slowly at the beginning of the video, could you remind me what is its range of use in RPM, its working pressure and your max speed ?
More generally speaking, any idea of the amount of steamboats and steam associations still living in your country ? In France I would say less than 30 and 1😢
Amicalement, Raphaël
Bonjour Raphaël,
She's a bit heavy too at over 13 tonnes 😅
We try not to run the engine over 240 rpm. Pressure is 150 psi (10 bar?). Max speed is about 7 knots
We have two or three steamboat organizations in the US, though they're dwindling. I think the number of steamboats could be upwards of 200, though the number that run regularly, even yearly, is significantly less.
Where in France are you located?
We have an engine built in Argentuil by Claparede that was originally intended for the boat. Story is it was recovered by a GI or CIA agent from somewhere in Southeast Asia in the 1960's.
If you send me your email address I can send you some photos.
what kind of personal licencing do you need to run a 40'+ boat?
