At my mom's place, I always take out those fancy thermostats and install the basic ones w/ the desire temp mark in RED!

Didn't he cut the pressure of expansion tank to zero when he opened the drain ball valve while the bell-shaped pressure valve was off?
What if the thermostats are up but still not heating at the baseboards but pipe is hot
