When my old dad was alive, on his bike he looked like Coppi!! Skinny arms and legs, but God could he climb and sprint!! He's probably riding with Coppi now, having a good time. Thanks dad for taking me out cycling as a kid. RIP DAD.

La bicicleta dei inigualable Fausto Coppi,es una obra de arte.
Los tiempos de los grandes artesanos,la linea del cuadro los racores, los pasapiolas, las masas ,la té y manubrio de una confección increible,ya en esos años los bloqueos de Campagnolo.
Los viejos eran grandes artistas, hoy existe mucho estudio y aerodinámica en las bicicletas ,que las hacen superiores y más livianas.
Pero nada de eso podrá igualar el arte y el amor con que confeccionaban estas verdaderas joyas hechas bicicletas.
Bianchi ,Legnano,Frejus y muchas muchas más igual de buenas, igual de artísticas.
Son del tiempo en que se hacían las cosas por amor ,antes que por dinero.

In 1972 I purchased a "Fausto Coppi" labeled bicycle in Ft. Collins, CO, and rode it for many years. I still have it. Reynolds double butted tubing, Mavic rims, all Campi except for brakes, and so on...... Some years ago I changed out the sew-ups for tubed rims - was tired of fixing flats. I wish I had kept the rims. This video brought back some memories. The rear derailleur is just like mine.

Fantastic to see Coppi's old bike, I have always wondered what the bikes back in the 50's looked like and what it must have been like to ride up the big mountains on them. Fascinating detail like the brake cable cut far to short and badly frayed, hardly befitting for a champion like Coppi. Would be great if someone could organise a Tour or Giro 'historique' and drag out some of these old bikes, huge stages like the olden days, tyres over the shoulders, goggles etc

Not quite the mountains if Italy, but I spank some 40s & '50 Italian and English bikes around the Cotswolds. '41 Pezzani, '49 McLean, '51, Fiorelli, planning, changing in plenty of time... Brilliant!

C'è ne era una versione leggermente diversa con gli attacchi per la pompa integrati con le levette del cambio. In alcune immagini di repertorio Fausto si vede con quella.

Can't get over how little difference there was between the big ring and the small ring. We really are spoiled these days
No. The "half step" arrangement was a fashion in the post-war era- a 2-tooth difference between 'rings gave a ratio step equivalent to about half a tooth at the back, so you had 10 very closely-spaced gears. On a gently-undulating course, that would be better than the silly 40+ tooth sprockets we have today. You could also have a 5 tooth step at the front, which gave about 1.5 the step at the back, or 52/42, which would give about 1.5x the step you got with a "two up" block at the back. You can still do any of this nowadays, of course, and get a similar spread of gears, with small ratio steps, to the modern 11-speed transmissions, without the extra sprockets. Most of the modern innovations are marketing; the performance gains are of interest only to brochure nerds.
