- Half a million households canceled their TV licence last year as the BBC struggled to engage with younger audiences, who were increasingly turning to Netflix and RUclips.

I cancelled the TV tax almost 25 years ago. Everyone else should do the same. James Price says that 'people are smart'. No they are not. If they were smart, everyone would have stopped paying the BBC tax by now.

I cancelled my BBC licence as soon as the Euros finished, from now on if I want to watch the footy I'll go to the pub. I'm sick at what the BBC told Andrew Gold when he came to BBC with multiple documentary ideas/pitches and they told him ''Great, we're really interested in funding you making these....but, YOU can't host your own documentaries...it has to be someone from a different ethnicity.''
As well as Lineker's bloated salary, funding Strictly and Eastenders that I will never watch, what's the point, it's NOT value for money

I had a short break at Centre Parcs recently, I noticed that they didn't have Talk TV or GB News on the TVs in their lodges because they thought it was too far right for their guests. They love the BBC and Electric Cars there, and the guests are so rude they think it is OK to stand and look through your lodge's windows. And they think it is weird if someone listens to an actual radio as they seem to think that everyone has to look at a smartphone all day long.

Stopped paying two years ago, within a month the threatening letters started to arrive, to date I have had around twenty and they are going to send the boys round, the letters are like Izal toilet paper they don’t wipe your bum it just spreads it round a bit,so please use softer paper so the letters won’t be wasted.

The trouble is if your TV is set up for BBC crap then the BBC send the henchmen after you take you to court and find a small fortune, the problem is you can't retune your TV to get rid of BBC channels,

I don't even own a TV any-more. Just a big PC monitor. My BBC indoctrination starts and ends with RUclips.
For me, two nice big HD monitors with HDMI input and earphone jack for audio output, and I have an audio setup for controlling the volume and even mixing. Works brilliantly, and no TV tuners in sight.
What I want to know is, why don't the BBC insist your add your licence fee number when you create your IPlayer account? Instead they just put up a dialog asking you if you have a licence fee or not?
The BBC account asks for your home address when you sign up, they then check their database for a TV License at that address. THAT'S how they catch people. As a result, I don't have a BBC account, neither.

Cancelled my licence when I had to move out of my house due to flooding, I won't be re-instating it when I move back in next month. Watch most things on U Tube these days anyway. The only things that I find watchable on BBC are old repeats from years even decades ago that I've seen loads of times, so I won't miss it.

I can see the television will be a thing of the past you can get what you want to see on your iPad or phone. I’m nearly 80 and my tv sits in the corner on mute while I’m on my iPad, there’s nothing of interest on it for me, and my grandchildren don’t have interest in it.

How are you able to cancel the TV license? Because I would love to cancel mine.
Stop the direct debit. Go online and inform them you do not watch live TV. Watch everything online on demand instead. You will miss nothing except BBC player.

they phoned me up when i cancled my direct debit (getting on for 8 years ago now) after realising i hadnt put my tv on to watch live broadcasts for nearly 2 years..
i told them to remove my details from their data base, which they have to do.. and i still got a refund for the money i'd paid towards the next years lisence..
ofcourse, i've been "under investigation" since, and yet, they still dont know my name to post the threat-o-grams to.. i've been the "legal occupier" for 8 years now

Nothing can be done about the BBC licence fee for another 2 1/2 years, their charter is valid until 31st December 2027. However, a change in the law so that a licence is only required for BBC content, instead of for all 'live' content, wouldn't take that long. Let the BBC keep their precious licence fee if they think they provide informative quality entertainment that is good value for money, change the law and see how many of the UK population actually agree with them.
The licence fee is one of the major factors in the BBC's downfall in my opinion, if they know that they're going to receive that £3.7 billion regardless of what they broadcast where is their incentive to do any better? Why work harder when they are going to receive that big fat juicy paycheck anyway?

The person being interviewed is incorrect saying you need a licence. Simply cancel your Direct Debits, don't waste your time contacting the BBC to 'declare no licence needed' as you are not legally obliged to inform/talk to anyone at the BBC/TVL or fill in any forms (it just helps BBC admin which they use to delay you). If you do fill out their forms or talk to them they have one purpose - to be so vague and misleading that they make you doubt your legal right to cancel.
Then sit back and read with amusement the ever desperate monthly letters as they behave like a clingy ex! - they'll send fake threats of 'Visit Authorised', 'under investigation' and 'last chance to get licensed' in nice red ink to 'scare' you into buying a licence you don't require - just ignore/bin these comical, misleading begging letters from an organisation that still thinks its the 1950's and it has some sort of legal authority. Utter shame on the UK Government for allowing the BBC an exemption to send harassing mail to those obeying the law (ask your MP why they allow it!).
Join the half million people a year now reaching their lightbulb moment, realising they are wasting their money and cancelling!
In the very unlikely event a commission based licence salesman visits (who like to call themselves 'officers'!) DO NOT talk to them - even to give your name, just say 'not interested' and close the door - job done! They have no legal rights/powers whatsoever despite what they may tell you/imply with their flashy lanyard! Just watch catch-up services (who watches live now anyway?) and no iPlayer (again, no loss as it's just preachy dross) and bingo, you saved yourself £169, every year - it is SO SO easy! Remember if you listen to Radio (by anyone, even the BBC!) then no licence needed.

Everybody reading this, cancel your TV licence now ... save yourself 160 quid .. you can still watch TV. just watch it for free .. I've not had a licence for 3 years now, only one visit by a TV licence salesman,, he knocked on my door once and left, never to be seen again ... They have no powers, if you do get a visit, just politely say no thanks and shut the door .. there is literally nothing they can do !!
