Good Video. Thanks. I'm 68 and did 15 of these. I've been (for the most part) inactive for close to 23 years. Just got back in the gym and will be doing these for more strength and endurance.
I'm 66. I have no issues getting up. I can sit on the steps outside and get up as well without using my hands. My legs are really strong. That's only due to both total knee replacements. My legs are stronger now than when I was a teenager. That's because my total knee replacements fixed my ankle problems I had since early childhood.
You just helped me figure out why I'm having trouble getting up out of chairs. I also have a rough time getting in the car to drive. I will be watching more of these.
I see more synergy between you two than I saw at the beginning. It is such a pleasure to watch this video. I like the way you make is OK to be lower than average at this change (me). Keep up the great work!
I do a different version of this test. I stand up when my behind touches the chair. I believe that it is a spine safer version. I also believe that it reduces fall risk more than the version shown in the video, because it teaches a person to move quicker. The ability to move fast is important in preventing a fall. I use the test standards from "HEALTHY YOU FITNESS CENTER HOME FITNESS TEST NORMS".
@@Nacadela I’m the same age. 10 years ago I found Bob and Rob and they changed my life!!! Not kidding I couldn’t brush my hair and now I can do everything that I once missed!!

Like he doesn’t know and there isn’t a large sign in the background. Mike sounded like a little boy repeating something he was told to say. I felt that was unkind and disrespectful to him. You’re a great sport, Mike.
Sorry I am a bit confused about the chart. The ranges seem kind of large. Are those numbers the goals or the averages for that age group? Seems like "average" might not be optimal based on the fitness levels of the general population. Please clarify. Thanks for all of your great work. I love your channel!!!
What does help if my legs feel shaky and weak? I can get up and down for this test pretty well but sometimes standing and especially in the shower I feel very unsteady. It's scary being in the shower like that!
Darn, I did the same number as Mike at about 10 or 11 and I'm 63 years old almost 64. I thought I was doing really good! Then he said he was taking it easy LOL
I have lost muscle for sure so will be trying this. I’m laughing as I’m always picking on my husband for saying heighth and Brad says it too so he feels vindicated 😝.
Is this exercise good for strengthening knees? I have no cartilage and get shots. suppose to have knee replacements (osteoarthritis in knees) but I don't want to have surgery.
I’m getting a hip replacement in a week. I must admit, I’m a bit nervous about it. Will it really help ? What will be my new normal ? I lost muscle mass over time, will I get it back ? …
I had a hip replacement several years ago. Ice will be your friend so have plenty of ice packs. You won't be allowed to bend at a 90 degree angle for about 7 weeks, so there is a whole bunch of stuff you'll need help with (use of bottom shelf of dishwasher, front load washer etc.) You will no longer be allowed to cross your legs. It is surprising how very tired you'll be with little exertion for several weeks. The pain wasn't too bad. Drink alot of water as the pain meds tend to mess with your system. Going forward, any exercises you undertake will need to be modified so you don't create a problem with the implant. As for your question about it helping, OMG yes! I had such pain prior. Couldn't lift my leg. Now, I can lift leg very high with zero pain. It feels strong and I don't feel weak climbing stairs etc. Everyone's body heals at their own pace. Do not rush it and pay attention to what it is telling you. Rest, stretch. It'll be fine.
I had both of my hips replaced about 7 years ago ( done 9 most apart). By the time I had the surgery I was barely able to walk and couldn't sit for any long stretches of time. Recovery was definitely hard work, but worth every second. I felt really good within two months abs completely myself at about 9 months. Since then I am a new person, hiking, swimming, running. Amazing! It will be so worth it for you! Best of luck!

Squatting, rather than bending at the waist, can help to strengthen legs when reaching for or picking up.
