I am almost certain the peasants were not boosted in any way (certainly not to the max), in fact the only reason I added them to the Roman army was to balance out the numbers. I will have to look at the raw footage to confirm this though. Maybe the fact that the parthians didn't have a general but the romans did played a part

Frankly I'm not surprised, Infantryman that have allready been eaten tend to fight poorly. Well, not Mr Eaten, but that's not quite the sasme thing.
I tested this with one Urban Cohort (fully experienced/upgraded) corner camping against 20 units of Eastern Infantry. The Urban Cohort lost........one soldier.

@@lugotorix6173 one time we did a 300 reinactment using a bridge battle. I made three full stacks of eastern inf and hillmen, got in good old descr_unit.txt and upped the men count for Spartans to 300 and watched the cartoonish nonsense ensue.
Zero casualties if you can position the Spartans right

Ivan The evil if you watch carefully, no eastern infantry died to pila attacks. The hastati charged straight in. If any had, there would have been an “under fire” icon on that unit’s card.

I remember my first playthrough as Seleucids on very hard. Militia hoplites routed when an egyptian general on chariots just stood near them. Never'd thought before that that only a sight of chariots would be enough to frighten them.
Every time I want to start a Parthian campaign, I always give it a second thought and restart a Roman faction campaign. I just can't do it 😌

Just mod them so they can train heavy spearman like the Armenians, or just rely solely on horse archers and some cataphracts
Use only horse archers. I also wasnt wanting to play with parthia but then i started building only horse archers and created a cosplay of attila so i always win against the shit ai
@@WILLIAN_1424 But to be fair the Armenians are just better at it than the Parthians with their cataphract archers, which are horse archers that win fights with other horse archers due to their heavy armour and double as strong melee cavalry.
With Parthia it's recommended to take a few cataphracts with you as they can take out enemy cavalry and foot archers in melee, cataphract archers can do that too AND can shoot arrows AND come out one tier stable lower than cataphracts.
Armenia is just a better Parthia tbh, better cav, better infantry and better temples.

@@lugotorix6173 Yeah, but they both break so fast you may as well pay less for more units, at least that way you can use them to camp your town square or clog a bridge cheaply.
@@lugotorix6173 used to use hillmen rather than Eastern Inf in online battles as Parthia or Armenia. You still have to be very cautious with them, but they are much preferable over eastern inf.

I swear, this can happen even with GOOD units - one time I was playing as Norway in MTW2, and my Huscarls just went in swinging and....turned and ran in the other direction before they'd even made contact. And the enemy did the same thing. It was hilarious.

Lugotorix I always used them as a weak distraction unit in the front of the lines then charging in my better units. Sometimes it worked, sometimes my eastern infantry routed through the enemy army and died.

I found with eastern infantry that if you deploy them in square formations you can triple their holding time to a staggering 30 seconds!

The game developers should have done more justice to this great civilization..: Parthiyans were vicious in battle , and their Horsemen and Horse archers were the best in the world those days. The Parthiyans invented the Parthiyan shot, where the mounted archers do a mock charge towards the enemy and them break and retreat tempting the enemy to give chase...and then the parthian mounted archers would turn backwards and shoot the enemy who is chasing them. The Parthians soundly defeated Marcus Licinius Crassus at the Battle of Carrhae in 53 BC. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthian_shot

@@capitanjingoist5123 Agreed.. Parthiyans had almost no infantry in the sense of the word...doing fighting on line as the game depicts. What dismounted units they had they mostly used to guard forts etc...so im sure they were no match for dedicated ground armies...They ruled over vast grasslands and plains and didn't see much use for Infantry units as they had to cover large distances quickly. They had Elite Horsemen armed and armored to the teeth...who could effectively fight dismounted if necessary. But like the Roman legion infantry which was the killing force of Roman army...the parthiyans had countless thousands of horse archers which was their main fighting force. supported by camel caravans supplying arrows as soon as the quivers ran low on ammo. Their knights used long cloaks to cover their bodies from head to toe and would only reveal their heavy armor at decisive points of the battle to shock the enemy(Just like they did to the Romans). Parthiyan army was like a huge machine gun raining armor piercing projectiles at the enemy...until there was no one standing to take the arrow storm. When i was reading about parthiyans the first thing i remembered were the Dothraki Blood Raiders from GOT. No Infantry, just as Arrow storm followed by a Tsunami of Heavy Horse crushing down whats left of the enemy.
You should do a time trial, try to set up conditions where the eastern spearman last as long as possible without breaking. Set up a general right behind them, other units on flanks, etc. Put them up against an equites charge and see if they stand for longer than 1.5s

New to the channel, but i have to say: Lugotorix, oh the memories. In a Julii campaign i bribed him, got him in my family, let him conquer all of Gaul an made him my leader. He was the greatest TW char i ever had.

This is why morale is the greatest defensive and offensive weapon in this game. Stack your generals with morale boosting retinue, and level up the generals with natural morale boosting stats even if they have less command stars. With 3-4 morale boost units like militia hoplites and eastern infantry can actually hold a line and might even fight for longer than three seconds when they get flanked.
I don't care what you say, it takes balls of steel and the courage of lions to charge into battle in pink pajamas.

My parthia campaign back in the day was almost entirely horse archers, 4 cataphracts and an eastern infantry for siege battles. The horse archers would shoot everything over the wooden walls until they hid in the city centre, the eastern infantry would batter down the gate and the cataphracts would go in and win.
After my first siege battle i replaced the eastern infantry with elephants and just headbutted the walls, 2 drops of oil and the pajama bois legged it. Didnt trust them to try against the wall with all 2 of those scary towers to hurt them.

Rome Total War challenge run: Beat the game as Parthia but only with Eastern Infantry-majority armies. Over half the units in every army have to be Eastern Infantry (in numbers, not necessarily units). The others are completely up to the player.

So I’m going to assume it was a combination of being under missile attack and being attacked in the flank plus the fact that the pila would absolutely mulch them at that range so rapid casualties and you get a pretty decent morale shock. Of course most militia units could probably withstand that but hey let’s not hurt the pajama boys feelings.

Whenever I play Rome half of my units in a company fight the enemy and the other half face the opposite direction and doing nothing as the enemy slowly slides up to kill them. Clearly these men wouldn't allow that and for that I commend.

Today after reinstalling Rome total war, I managed to get a group of eastern infantry to flank a group of levy pikemen from behind while they were in phalanx formation, despite this they still suffered horrendous casualties and would have lost that fight if it weren't for horse archers helping them.

What Lugotorix didn't realize was that the Romans actually had a Late Game Unit of peasants which can take the Mighty Pyjama Warriors easily.
Parthia is my favorite faction but taking a settlement was a hard task.
