Admittedly here to see Chuck and James trading solos and riffs...Death could have been even bigger if James stayed with them. What a wasted opportunity...at least they gave us their opus, Spiritual Healing!
Right on, they only scratched the surface of the potential that was there. James’ lead work fit in so well with this style of riffing, more so than any other player after him to me…
@@hwgavin They had a contract for some shows in Europe. Chuck had cancelled previously and Bill and Terry were afraid of legal issues if they cancelled again. Chuck had no legit reason for not going other than "I'm just not feeling it you know so I'm staying here in Florida."
This lineup was definitely one of the best as far as live performances go. Bill may not be the most technical player but his parts fit perfectly and we’re very tasteful. James’ lead work fit like a glove to this material. I wish they would have stuck together for one more album…
I was at this show, Prime Evil and Devastation opened. Then 9 months later I saw James playing with Obituary when they played with Sadus and Sepultura at L'amour.
Me TOO!!! ALWAYS either forgotten or overshadowed by the also obviously GREAT latter Reinert/Hoglan eras TOO! But yeah! Being a Metal drummer 🥁 personally from BACK when etc? Bill Andrews double bass work and funky blues breakdown beats (on Spiritual Healing 😏) WERE ABSOLUTE MUSTS to learn how to play when I started playing MORE extreme music 🎶🎼!!! I just turned 49 y.o. and I STILL LOVE this shyt! Lol 🤘🔥🤘
I saw them on this tour, right up close in the pit the whole show in West Palm Beach at a club called, "The Pit" on the second floor above a grocery store. I saw them again on the next tour too for "Spiritual Healing" at the same little venue. Something about smaller clubs, they have great acoustics with the sound bouncing off the walls so hard. They sounded so awesome each time!
@@cavebrain2979 they probably would have rushed out of the store in a panic thinking they were in an earthquake & the roof was calapsing or some shit like that. 😂😅 It wasn't even a big supermarket though, but an Asian specialty grocery market. The store had already closed for the night by the time the show started at like 9:30 - 10pm so, it was empty downstairs...
Well James Murphy sure knows how to shine up a guitar lead like a brand- new penny! (9:20) Like he did with Rick Rozz's original studio recording of the last lead on the "Pull The Plug" track. On the album track, Rick's lead sounds like he's just hitting random notes & squishing them with the tremolo bar while James' version of the same lead sounded well-thought-out, organized and clean. He also knows how to manage the amount of pressure he puts on the tremolo bar while precisely hittng the notes he wants. Soooo much better of a guitarist... 🔥💪💀🎸👍🔥
@@hectorr7488 oh, no doubt . James Is on a much higher level. My previous comment wasn't any sort of recent realization, it has been common knowledge for over a couple of decades now. Rick was never in denial of it nor disputed Chuck's decision of replacing him. He knew Chuck would eventually move on without him & he was ok with it. Of course he didn't want to leave the band but, he also knew there were guitarists out there with much more talent that would obviously appeal to Chuck, moving forward. Just a matter of time for Chuck to land a new guitarist. He talked a bit about it in an interview clip from the "Death By Metal" movie. He accepted it and went away quietly with no hard feelings, really. I respected him for that ...for respecting Chuck's inevitable decision.
I think, Rick utilized the guitar's lever or tremolo arm in a bad manner, I mean a lot of tremolo arm, abusing the use of it, in that time he showed not to have a lot of guitar skills... In my opinion.. ...
I think the sound of DEATH was invented by Chuck with a lot of help from the other master Rick Rozz 🤘 I know I know Rick He didn't play on the SH album but he's still a big influence.
I agree, his voice was best on the early Death albums. He sounded good up until Individual Thought Patterns. I didn't really like his higher vocals on Symbolic or Sound of Preserverance

Best set list ever
Awesome to know Bill Andrews sister actually painted that Spiritual Healing backdrop that they toured with. Very talented!!
For me, Chuck and James are the best guitar mix ever happened in music!
Same as I dude, same as I \m/
Chuck and James and Trey and Erik from morbid angel are possibly the greatest guitar combos in all of music!
Me too !! The blend of the two guitars in Spiritual Healing album are so perfect 🤘
Yeah even the whole lineup is my favorite Lineup .
Totally agree!!

Chuck was absolutly amazing. I mean, that musicality, those guitars....men. Pure History.
The best Death lineup touring in support of the best death metal album ever released.
Yes!!!!
I don't know if this is my favourite Death album let alone best DM album ever
before the band fired Chuck and then Chuck subsequently fired the band

59:57 One of my favorite Death solos, performed by James Murphy. Within The Mind

И моё. И ещё Killing Spree.
This lineup killed it they were soo tight James and Chuck trading solos, Bill Andrew's Neil pearl like approach and precision just pure power
Chucks voice is raw power
Death metal sorely misses these guys.

Absolute Legendary Evening that I was Lucky & Honored to be in Attendance on this Very Evening
James Murphy... The best guitar solos... He is a beast.
Yes
I was there only 21 at that time, great performance and great place for metal, Streets in New Rochelle awesome memories.
