Sometimes I think the zoo staff just wants to take care of the baby. I don’t believe they give mom enough time to adjust. On the other hand I have seen a lot of primates moms not have that motherly instinct. I believe it has to do with being in captivity.
Your first statement is accurate. Stealing a baby from its mother guarantees years of video material and money from donations. These people are nothing but selfish, insensitive, incompetent and greedy idiots!
Once she woke up from the anesthesia, in about a day, she should have been given her baby back. By keeping the baby away from her that long her milk will dry up.
@@emmas1082 And that is exactly what those cruel and selfish "zoo keepers" wanted...they wanted to create a situation where the mother and baby could never be reunited so that they could feed their disgusting egos and make lots of videos to personally enrich themselves.
The discovery of the monkey vests worn by carers while feeding, etc was pretty brilliant. The little monkeys/gorilla babies cling to these and when they go back to the troop, they're good to go... literally. Great leaps forward in exotic animal care in the last few decades. Props to zoos for raising species awareness, too, for these critically endangered animals.
Aww what a beautiful baby! Baby primates are so delicate, it's amazing that any of them survive in the wild. So many primates can die during childbirth just like women. So many complications and things can go wrong. Luckily these chimps have caring zoo and vet staff to help them if they need it.
I think baby was yanked out during birth ..I don’t believe the story of placenta not passing…why cover moms legs with blanket? Does mom even have milk that soon after birth? The story on news said mom acted aggressive….yeah trying to get her baby back from being dragged around like dead
She may have had an issue giving birth and had to have her uterus basically scraped out to pull out the placenta. So she would need a good long while to recover and chimps aren't exactly always nice to other chimps. She's lucky an experienced chimp took in the baby before the males would've grabbed up the baby and bashed it's head on the floor or the wall most likely.

The mother hadn’t rejected her baby so why did you decide to hand rear her? She just took a little longer to recover from her operation. Questionable decision in my opinion.
You are absolutely correct. These arrogant zoo keepers just want to have any excuse to hand raise the baby so they take the babies whenever it is convenient. They do not care one bit about the safety or health of the animals. It's all about money and their egos.
The mom didn't respond maternally when they gave the baby back. Easy to guess from your sofa expertise, but actually reading about what happened might be advisable. 🤦
I don't understand their reasoning of "us" deciding when the mother is ready and when she is not. All I can do is hope their right. I suppose they know if the mother is not ready based on observations of her personality, physical condition, and other characteristics. Trust them in their decisions.

They should have let her give birth naturally, all that was so unnecessary. She might not except the baby because they interference with her natural birthing process. Thousands of years they have been giving birth, old primates, they don't need human interference.
