Doesn’t mean he has to be kicked out. After he recorded he continued playing drums but for other bands since Slipknot turned there backs on him. When he needed his brothers the most they cut him outta there lives. They did Joey so wrong and so dirty. Joey was the hardest working guy on that stage and in the studio
This was the first slipknot song I ever heard. I was 9 and I immediately fell in love with slipknot and this whole genre. It started a journey and I'll be forever thankful for who ever showed me this song
Those final screams are so full of rage and agony, and at the same time so beautiful. "'Left Behind' is a song about a time of my life that was really hard - I was homeless ... it's funny how many people you meet when you're homeless ... you find out so much about them, and you rely on them so much, and then when things start happening for you, those faces disappear and they're gone," concluding that the song is "about leaving behind the lives that make up your past." - Corey Taylor.

It is still the best period of the band. After this with Subluminal Verses it went down very fast. (Subluminal was even produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, but even with Corey being pissed as fuck he only saw the guy 2 to 3 times per week max, it never went to the Iowa standard anymore.) Oh, and they had the coolest masks.
I know this is late, but Rest In Peace, Joey. Your music was my introduction to metal. This song was the first time I actually took the time to listen to metal rather than just dismissing it as mindless screaming and noise. This band helped me get through some tough times. Without Slipknot, my childhood and my life in general would’ve probably been very different. Joey will forever go down as a legend, one of the greatest drummers of all time. He will be missed and never forgotten.
The original lineup for 99% of the world. I know they worked through a few members locally before..but this is the lineup that made them world famous, and the one that most people associate with the band.
shit i seen them at ozzfest in 99 before the videos were even out...i remember me and my fat friend sam just looking at each other after the wait and bleed performance...and was just like "what the fuck was that?!?!?" lol....we were laughing at how crazy the shit was but there were moments where we had legit respect for the sound....after the studio version of the song came out....we were like yo they sound really good and bought the cd...
We are so sorry for your loss man… Joey is a metal icon and visionary. His legacy will live on forever. Sending our condolences to you and the rest of your brothers new and old.
You have to think about it though, between all the alcohol and cocaine Corey had going in his system between 2000-2001 and all the problems for the rest of the members, it was their hardest of times. But look, 2019 and we have a 6th studio album We Are Not Your Kind. That's pretty impressive with everything that has gone wrong for them, right?
Hard to believe this song is 22years old, it sounds so fresh and modern. Edit: Aged like fine wine is what I meant to say for those nitpicking a 9 month old comment 🤦
First time I heard this song.... I became a maggot and a knothead. And made me embrace the metal scene. No matter who will leave the band... long live Slipknot.🤘🤘🤘
It almost feels like it's a representation of old suppresed parts of ones inner child as a result of darkness, and through many years of lack of feeling the connection the vocals and intensity represent it's desperation to surface it seeks for connection in others to make itself known.
This album is when Coreys voice was at its absolute prime in my opinion. Clean vocals, brutal screams and consistent energy. Makes me break my neck every time I hear it!!!!!!
GamesoundtracX "old good shit never dies"? Tell that to Old Man Lee! He died at the age of 88 from complications caused by his Viagra. He was a good old man. Always helped out and didn't ask for a dime. Sure, he was probably screwin' ya' wife but... He was a good ol' man with a big heart...
GamesoundtracX If you want, look for the West Palm Beach interview from 1999 (it was uploaded by SlipknotBootlegz) and that is a classic example of Sid pulling a Sid. He freaked out somewhat in the background and got on Jim's nerves, lol. Craig also spoke the longest amount of time I've ever heard him speak.
Same, I didn't like them in my teen years as I discovered Metallica, Iron Maiden, and other 80s metal. Listening to it now, 20 years later, I don't know why I didn't like it, this stuff is good.
@@Womb2DaTomb it was 2002 for me when I was 10 and Resident Evil had just dropped with My Plague, I had seen them on magazine covers but hadn’t heard their music. They’ve been my favorite band ever since.
My grandmother appreciates this type of new aged well music. I miss my grandmother. She made me the cool guy in high school. Otep did the rest. And so did Slipknot. Grandparents aint they the greatest.(RIP) grandma, i miss you so much. You're gone now, but never forgotten.
This song is a real work of art, from the instrumentals to the vocals to the composition, it's all flawless to my ears. The sound mixing/mastering is also perfect. I could listen to this song everyday for the rest of my life and never get sick of it. Many other songs you listen to a number of times then you kinda get bored of them, this song is not like that, this is timeless!
I feel the same about Slipknot's biggest songs. I've probably listened to this a hundred times, same with Nero Forte and Solway Firth. I always worry this means I have basic taste though, since this is supposed to be like "pop metal" as opposed to "real" metal, ya know? But I can't help it, this sounds like honey to my ears.
@@breakingfree7244 There's nothing wrong with pop metal if the integrity of the song is still there. These guys are amazing musicians capable of coming up with brutal grooves and transitions, plus Corey's vocals are some of the most dynamic and powerful in music. Who cares what others think!
@@yingle6027 Amen to that, I worry too much what others think. He does have a sick voice, and the drum and guitar parts in each song are incredible. Plus the lyrics in Left Behind are relatable. I've never been to a concert before, but Slipknot is my first choice.
Dude, in the beginning where Joey boy just whipped his drumsticks.. I fucking felt that Best drummer in the world, and he was my inspiration to wake up everyday and drum. RIP Joey Jordison and he will forever be apart of my memories.
I just listened to this song twice in a row and it filled me with so much joy. I picked up my kitten and showed him all the cabinets he can hide in and places he can walk and gave him treats. Damn. Slipknot does it for me. Now he's running around playing with every single toy a little bit like a maniac ... thanks Slipknot ...
When i was 10, my family could finally could finally afford a computer/internet again. This was the first song I searched up and i still have no idea why to this day. Thank you Slipknot
This song was an integral part of me staying sane in my preteen years (middle school). I was picked on, had so many issues with anger, loneliness, etc. I related so much to the kid in the video....I’ll always be thankful to Slipknot for capturing what it’s like to be a kid and feel alone...to feel Left Behind!
I find it a lot with a lot of slipknot songs but especially ones like this with the mad videos. It really does let you just escape the bullshits of our world and make us realise others are going through the same
On top of the music and vocals being great, u gotta give these guys props. The fact they even live thru their live performances is amazing. The outfits, masks, and energy they display has to create so much heat that it must be really diffult to maintain urself up there on stage without passing out.
I remember listening to this on my way to my bus stop and when I got there everyone could hear it because my earbuds where and max volume so this one kid told on me at school for listening to "Satanic Music" so I went to the guidance counselor and we got it all straightened out but as I was about to walk out of his office he said wait what where you listening to anyway? So I said Slipknot. And then i was crazy because he knew slipknot and he liked them too. And then he asked me what album i was listening to. And I said Iowa. And he was like, well that's why the kid thought it was satanic music so that's a funny story RIP JOEY
How the goat heads are just a symbol for metal and dont refer to satanism just the symbolism of what people think same thing for the heretic anthem its just about the symbolism of being an outcast if your 555 I'm 666 their always trying to be differint from the regular crowd considering their new album we are not your kind:)
i am not particularly enjoying life right now and this album kinda speaks to me. this song in particular hits hard, every time i listen i think “hey! that’s me! i’ve been left behind! i’ve been estranged from my friends!” update: fellas, i’m in a way better spot than i was 3 months ago. i’ve gotten back on my feet and the power of heavy metal helped boost it 💪💪💪

Such great memories.
Hahah

Sorry homie, I'm stealing the line.
This hit me hard.
Such a banger, all the energy and emotion in their original work. I miss the original line up so much. What they produced is incredible
this isnt the original lineup
only joey and clown were original here
The original lineup for 99% of the world. I know they worked through a few members locally before..but this is the lineup that made them world famous, and the one that most people associate with the band.
@@markmansfieldsbwc4674 exactly
Still feels and sounds the same as it first did
This song started it all for me.
Hail Slipknot.

shit i seen them at ozzfest in 99 before the videos were even out...i remember me and my fat friend sam just looking at each other after the wait and bleed performance...and was just like "what the fuck was that?!?!?" lol....we were laughing at how crazy the shit was but there were moments where we had legit respect for the sound....after the studio version of the song came out....we were like yo they sound really good and bought the cd...

We are so sorry for your loss man… Joey is a metal icon and visionary. His legacy will live on forever. Sending our condolences to you and the rest of your brothers new and old.

is this a bad time to say it's my least favourite sk album
Death Skips it's all a matter of opinion so i don't think it matters :)
My all-time favourite Slipknot song. Just so much power and brutality and that opening riff is just 👌
Look up Lust Disease Demo. It's Left Behind but with the original singer and lyrics
I think this might be my favorite too
A masterpiece
Mine too. I was a teenager in 2001, this song takes me back to that time
@@InsaneCB1942 me too! Remember sticking Kerrang! on for hours in the hope this would come on!
Its hard to think that slipknot almost fell apart when they recorded the album Iowa
Was it from infighting between Corey and Joey?
@@parfner666 they all had heavy alcohol and drug problems at the time
You have to think about it though, between all the alcohol and cocaine Corey had going in his system between 2000-2001 and all the problems for the rest of the members, it was their hardest of times. But look, 2019 and we have a 6th studio album We Are Not Your Kind. That's pretty impressive with everything that has gone wrong for them, right?
Yeah everyone wanted to keep the goat for them selves then some one had the idea of sharing
idk, the best stuff comes from the most broken ppl a lot of the times tbh
Anyone else sick and tired of hearing "anyone else listening to this in so and so year?!?"?
Yes, just like you I've had enough of this
Hell yeah, I've totally had enough of that.
Absolutely. It's annoying as hell

Who else is reading this in September 2024
Hard to believe this song is 22years old, it sounds so fresh and modern.
Edit: Aged like fine wine is what I meant to say for those nitpicking a 9 month old comment 🤦
So true
it sounds exactly like an early 2000s nu metal song =P
@@transsexual_computer_faery Literally... smh XD

I became a maggot and a knothead. And made me embrace the metal scene. No matter who will leave the band... long live Slipknot.🤘🤘🤘

@@doomslayer2666 I read that too fast, I think you catch my drift
This song was the soundtrack to my first ever acid trip.
*Corey leaves band* now what .......
Mark Kenneth Villafuerte the same here 🤘🏻🖤
It almost feels like it's a representation of old suppresed parts of ones inner child as a result of darkness, and through many years of lack of feeling the connection the vocals and intensity represent it's desperation to surface it seeks for connection in others to make itself known.
This album is when Coreys voice was at its absolute prime in my opinion. Clean vocals, brutal screams and consistent energy. Makes me break my neck every time I hear it!!!!!!
Yeahh! old good shit never dies !! :D
Did you take your medicine bruh?
GamesoundtracX I was high when I commented, sorry, lol. You know, just pulling a Sid.
LOOL :D
GamesoundtracX If you want, look for the West Palm Beach interview from 1999 (it was uploaded by SlipknotBootlegz) and that is a classic example of Sid pulling a Sid. He freaked out somewhat in the background and got on Jim's nerves, lol. Craig also spoke the longest amount of time I've ever heard him speak.
RIP Joey. One of your masterpiece.
RIP paul and joey see ya in heaven brothers thanks for making my teen years amazing😢
i’m really annoyed with myself that i didn’t listen to these guys sooner, i’ve only fallen in love with their music recently.
Wait until you can see them live! That will change your life! I’ve seen them about 4/5 times here in England and they are just out of this world
People arrive late to the party all the time. We're just happy you made it here 👌
This is the song that got me into heavy music in general, I was only 9 years old at the time (2001) and it changed my life forever

It's true, this music is too addictive.

I find it a lot with a lot of slipknot songs but especially ones like this with the mad videos. It really does let you just escape the bullshits of our world and make us realise others are going through the same
1:07 I love this bush!!! aaaarrgghh!!!
On top of the music and vocals being great, u gotta give these guys props. The fact they even live thru their live performances is amazing. The outfits, masks, and energy they display has to create so much heat that it must be really diffult to maintain urself up there on stage without passing out.

Sad but true :(
I remember listening to this on my way to my bus stop and when I got there everyone could hear it because my earbuds where and max volume so this one kid told on me at school for listening to "Satanic Music" so I went to the guidance counselor and we got it all straightened out but as I was about to walk out of his office he said wait what where you listening to anyway? So I said Slipknot. And then i was crazy because he knew slipknot and he liked them too. And then he asked me what album i was listening to. And I said Iowa. And he was like, well that's why the kid thought it was satanic music so that's a funny story
RIP JOEY
How the goat heads are just a symbol for metal and dont refer to satanism just the symbolism of what people think same thing for the heretic anthem its just about the symbolism of being an outcast if your 555 I'm 666 their always trying to be differint from the regular crowd considering their new album we are not your kind:)
