I played hohner super 64 for many years as a part of a guitar orchestra (many times we wrote in a harmonica part, or we would use harmonica in place of some other instrument, e.g the oboe when we did Gabriel’s Oboe). I had purchased the scx 64 at some point, given its low price, and marveled at how nicely the slider worked. Tone was good, and as you say, it was a great instrument. About 5 years ago, I decided to completely abandon Hohner and use scx-56 and sirius-56 as my main gigging harmonicas. Really happy with their products, and I find them easier to maintain. The slider assembly is 2 part vs 3 on the Hohner, which makes cleaning easier (less parts, just use a toothbrush and water/vinegar to clean the slider and mouthpiece, then dry and reassemble. And never lubricate, a simple cleaning will make the slider work smoothly and quietly). Like the harmonica you showed, the instruments I bought really do stand up over time, and hold their tunings.
I have an SCX-56. It amazes me every day. I realize that higher-level models have advanced features and nuances, but I don't consider the SCX series as a "starter" range of harmonicas. I own other chromatics at this price point and the SCX excels. Thank you for presenting yours.

Where can I find a notation chart from this harmonica? As a flute players, we usually call something like that a fingering chart. Can’t find it on the internet for some reason. Getting my harmonica tomorrow and can’t wait to start learning this amazing instrument. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge 🙏

I really like my SCX 64 that I bought back in 2016. It has a good amount of playing on it and it is holding up pretty well. The price has gone up a bunch since then, but it’s definitely a great design. Does this old one have the 2 piece mouthpiece or 3 piece? I found one older one that has a back plate on it.
Hi! Good to hear. This one has the two part mouthpiece system, so no back plate. I have one SCX48 from 2009 which has a back plate, so I think it must have changed somewhere between 2009-2011. I think this two part system with intergrated backplate is really a genius design.
How well does it bend? I can certainly hear some bending in your sample playing, but how does it compare to bending on other chromatics, such as a Hohner 270, for example?
i have a Suzuki SCX 56 and it is very nice to play the reeds are soft and it has a mellow tone. I like the quality of the Suzuki harmonica and its price point. I also have a Seydel de luxe steel with the steel reeds which i don't like so much i find it harder to play and has a more piercing tone. Is the Suzuki Sirius similar to the SCX range in tone.
Ten years, that’s awesome. I’m happy with my SCX so far after a month, and very happy to hear I might get 10+ years from it. What advantages would I get from the Chromatic harmonicas in the next price bracket up ($300 to $500)? Thank you for helping.
Higher priced harmonicas often has other materials in the material, different feel in the mechanics and for Suzuki you will get a thicker reed plate and longer reeds when buying the G48/Sirius series. They have another sound and feel.
Filip, do you know, where I can buy a plastic mouth slider for this harmonica? I search it but I don't find something. Can you help. Many greats from Germany Manuel
@@FilipJersMusic yes, that is that what I mean. Do you know, where I can buy this? Sorry for my english. Thank you for answer. I like your videos so much. You are an amazing harmonica player. Many greats Manuel
I have. It’s the best. I rarely played the low c-f# in the first 2 holes, but a surprising number of times the low g-b would be missing, and the 14 hole harmonica would save me. 16 holes are not hard to play, but the 14 is a nice compromise between the 12 and 16 in terms of weight and ease of holding for me. The 14 hole is my main harmonica.
Thanks for watching! 😊 Welcome to leave a comment and like the video so we can spread the message and wonderful sound of Jazz Harmonica on RUclips 🎉
That low register is like dark chocolate. Tasty. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Sweet as well! 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
Haha yes, I agree!
Dark chocolate is bitter though 😂😂😂

Thanks for your comment and nice words. Yes Suzukis are really well built and very balance instruments.

@@FilipJersMusic Same here! It really adds to the air tightness of the instrument!

It bends good! I am not bending much and heavy when I play chromatic but it surely bends.
But the Hohner might bend easier because are reeds are not as hard. Softer reeds bends easier but can also break easier.
Hi teacher
I hope you are well, is this instrument suitable for someone who wants to play classical music? (like Beethoven, Bach,...)
Sure!

In those ten years, have you ever replaced the rubbers or the spring?
Rubbers - yes. Spring - no. I have never replaced a spring on a chromatic actually.
@@FilipJersMusic Hi! If you don't mind me asking, how can one get the rubbers? I lost them a while ago. I'm in Italy. Thanks!
@@12nites where in the world are based? In Europe you can get them from BravoMusik in Denmark.

Bravo.

While I love most of my harmonicas, including Seydel, Tombo and Suzuki, I really prefer Hohner's tuning to all of them.
