  • How to refill a stratton powder compact.
I used Maxfactor Cremepuff which fits Stratton solid powder and convertible compacts.
I am by no means an expert... I mean look at my make up, but I am a make up wearer and I struggled to find HOW to do this online! I did this through trial and error.
I got the Make Up from Boots and the compacts from Ebay. Compacts were a few pounds. I searched for "Stratton Convertible Compacts" to find what I wanted.
Be kind to each other... if you didn't like the video, sorry, just don't watch :-)

It's called a retaining ring. You can buy refills from various brands, but you can also make a pressed powder using loose powder and isopropyl alcohol. Mix the two together to make a paste, pour into the empty powder pan and press down firmly through a piece of parchment paper until level and leave to dry.

Aaah a UK video! Thank you for making this! I had found a clean and almost never used vintage cream powder compact from boots at my local charity shop and I've been looking all over on how to refill it with a powder I could use and I stumbled upon this video, now I know what to look for. Have a good one and stay safe!

Ahhh! So clever - well done you! And yes, that Stratton compact does look so much better! (PS - I hope this video goes viral...) 😜

Ahh thanks, but I hope it doesn't go viral! I'd lose my job as a teacher 🤣 and I need that to pay my bills ❤️

Great video! I love vintage compacts. I’m still shopping for one for my powder refills. I buy the Gabriel face powder refill. You get the powder in a tin and it’s packaged in a small piece of cardboard. I love the product. It has very good coverage.

Thank you for this tip. I managed to get the refill out by heating gently on my ceramic hob. Ridiculously difficult though. Last time I broke the refill but got it done this time. Max Factor should address this problem!

It's really annoying isn't it! The glue is super duper industrial sticky glue. And so much of it.

Might be safer to use a hair dryer.
Edit! You’re so sweet, I just got a Stratton compact last week. Looking forward to trying this 🫶🏽

I did initially try a hair drier but it wasn't quite hot enough. A craft heat gun might work well but I don't have one of those. Good luck with your compact.

I used a hair dryer. You just have to leave it there long enough close to the back of the powder compact. It worked. Flat irons on a low setting work too!

This is genius! I just ordered a Stratton compact from eBay and want to put a pressed powder inside. How many inches is the max factor compact? I’m wondering if my 100% Pure powder would fit inside...

I know it is 67 millimeters accross, not sure in inches. If its smaller you can put a small piece of cardboard in or blutak. X

Have a look at the base.
      As a rule of thumb:
Late 1930's to 1950's - base designs tend to be of a spiral
Mid 1950's to mid 1960's - base design of all over stars
Mid 1960's to early 1970's - base design of stars again but with the addition of the Stratton name
1970's to 1980's - Somewhat spotted designs with the Stratton name
1980's to 1990's - base design woven patterns with the Stratton name

oh no, it has happened to me once or twice. You can repress powder.
Good luck, if you need any advice please let me know. I figured it out by trial and error x
