When everything is given, time/gear/season, then the only thing is missing from the formula is knowing where the fish are. When I got the gear, I don't have the time, when I got gear and time, I'm out of season, when everything checks, can't find the fish.
Once lost a huge sail because these a-holes trolled over the line 50 yds from the boat, hooked the line, and then started yelling at us to get away because they thought THEY hooked the sail. Top 10 most frustrating fishing moments.
Amazing video Mr.Skinner just bought the carbon shield 2 rod you recomended and am going to orient point tommorow with my brother and our friend to try and catch some albi i learned alot from your vids!
You mention in fishing the edge (which I am thoroughly enjoying) to fight albies w your horizontal rod pumps and not vertical over your head, what is the reason for this ?
When you pull with the rod level to the water, you're pulling straight on the fish as opposed to on an angle, so you're exerting more force. A physics teacher could explain better. If you've ever watched anglers fight fish like tarpon you'll see they do the same. It would be a little awkward with a rod longer than 8 feet, but since I fish 7 and 7 1/2-foot rods for albies, it works great.
Wow! That looks like a lot of fun catching False Albacore off the beach. I don't think you can catch anything like that on West coast shore's. They appear to be stronger fighters than stripers...can any one advise? Thank you.
Hi John, have you ever tried to put a much longer leader? I have learned in the rocky areas a 10 ft long leader would be much durable. You can connect fluro carbon to braid by FG knot, which you will bypass the swivel. I have personally landed 38 lb striper on this kind of knot and don't have no problems at all.
Good stuff. For what it’s worth, I’ve had good luck clipping off one of the treble hooks, making it a double. From what I can tell, it has not hurt my hookup rate and release is very easy.
Truman's Beach. East Marion NY. Get there before dawn. Walk east towards the houses on the beach. Wait for first crack of light. Start casting like a madman. Make sure you close your bail or pick up your line the second your Hogy epoxy jig or deadly duck hits the water. Dont let it sink.
Long time fan here and like always you make this look too easy!!! I never get to fish half as much as I would like, I had 3 trips this year ☹. I normal fish from ac to down to sea isle. Do you recommend a beach in those towns cause i can actually go this weekend
Just a side question what percentage of casting to catching false Albacore would you say there is per 100 cast 25% is my guess. I know at one Point people have said false albacore are the fish of a thousand casts
Hey Mr.Skinner,I had a question about the Hellbenders you picked up recently.Ive been looking into them and the inseam seams pretty long.I was just curious how tall you are and what size you bought?I'm a 36-32 and I believe the inseam on the waders I would need would be 36,That seems like they would be baggy.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks for the response,That's good to hear. They should fit me fine then.I have the Bull Frog hip boots and they have been the most comfortable I've owned so far. Thanks again!
Hello John. I was wondering do you fish at low or high tide? Incoming or outgoing. Ive tried surf fishing a couple of times near like jones beach and the waves were terrible enough to knock me down. I was wondering how do you handle that? Waves were so strong every time i casted my rod bent as if i got bit. This happens every time i go surf fishing. I was wondering how do you time the tides and handle these conditions? Thank you in advance.
Clearly I'm no John Skinner but I can respond to a couple things. This video looks like a Bay not an open beach shore. So the waves are very slight. Also if your rod is bending from the current like that, then it sounds like you don't have a heavy enough rod for the Shore. Medium Heavy between 8ft to 11ft. For sure, outgoing low tide will be easier to wade but not usually the best time for sure fishing. Keep trying. Good luck
Great video John. Been following your talks and video clips for years. Question: Do you bend the barbs back on your treble hooks when you fish for albies?
Respect Big John! I would like to know where bout on Long Island are you fishing on this trip? I live in Brooklyn, the Albies rarely come this way along the coastline.
Thanks, but could you be a bit more specific. I don't want to head out that way and get all the way there just to be told that I'm trespassing on private property. Dose this location have a access point that leads to public roadways?
How long ago was this? I know these videos have to be edited and stuff but was this recently? Because I am yet to get an albie from shore this year and I fear they are all gone at this point
I know they were still here 5 days ago. I blackfished on the weekend and worked the last two days so I'm a bit out of the loop as to whether they're still here. Water is still about 59, so not too cold yet.
223 in 2016, I quit at 300 in 2017. Last two seasons not as plentiful, but their availability is extremely dependent on wind/weather. They stayed more off the beach this season than usual.
Nice albie john..I just dont get the albie mania, nice fight yes but since they arnt really edible I'd rather rake leaves..now bonito I'll chase and enjoy for dinner.
I can have a much gentler touch with fingers than pliers. I feel like I can control the pressure more and I know for sure it's minimizing damage, although not so much on the fingers.
I hate you John Skinner! LOL ... Hoping to get out on my boat this week... have to decide between going East towards Montauk or around Orient and west. Any knowledge if the albies and/or bass are still around? Great vid as usual.

Finally landed my first albie this year on the south shore early October...Great video John, Love the action!!!
I just got skunked musky fishing this morning so its good to see someone catch something
That albie was fantastic. Those are some tough fish!!
Small single inline VMC worked best for me. Didn't draw blood on any Albies and basically fell out every time no need for pliers.
Hey John... you can cut that wind noise with a little fuzzy material around the microphone.
Once lost a huge sail because these a-holes trolled over the line 50 yds from the boat, hooked the line, and then started yelling at us to get away because they thought THEY hooked the sail. Top 10 most frustrating fishing moments.

Is that a reel that has not come out yet ? It's not a clash with a red drag knob
Too cool!! Which state beach ??
I am yet to get my first albie I got my first bone this year though
Hi john do you sell bucktails quite hard to find in New Zealand also around 20 dollars each thanks love your knowledge
I do not. Bucktails are sold in many places here, but I'm not sure who ships to your side.
No luck this year. When was this trip?
Any indication what they were feeding on ?
Amazing video Mr.Skinner just bought the carbon shield 2 rod you recomended and am going to orient point tommorow with my brother and our friend to try and catch some albi i learned alot from your vids!
Did you ever catch any there?
Hey John are albies a fish worth blind casting for ?
John, do you like the Penn Battle better than the Tsunami shield?
Are they a good fish to eat ?
I'm trying to catch these forever, haven't got one yet, I'm a beginner for the saltwater, but they taste amazing, just like tuna.
Horrible. Green Bonito look very similar but are excellent.
524 albies between 2016 and 2017!? That’s crazy John!
Great stuff
Reading fishing on the edge in front of the fire place on LI
What lb j braid test do you recommend albies?
Enjoy the read! 20# on the albies.

I failed the physics regents but makes sense
Thank you very much and happy and healthy new years to you and your family
I caught a 15 lb albie last year on a 2500 size stradic with 10lb braid from shore. That thing took off and I couldn’t stop it. Nuts

That’s crazy! Are they busting at ibsp? Or just stripers?
Is that a new clash?? Looks like a Penn. I’m guessing a new high speed model.
Prototype reel?
Hey John, can you recommend a good beach with decent public access that albies may frequent?
Truman's Beach. East Marion NY. Get there before dawn. Walk east towards the houses on the beach. Wait for first crack of light. Start casting like a madman. Make sure you close your bail or pick up your line the second your Hogy epoxy jig or deadly duck hits the water. Dont let it sink.
May I ask which reel you're using? The link posted is for the lure.Got it,thanks just the same.
Why are they called false albarcore?
Hey John great video I was wondering did you ever try false albacore eating wise
By accident in my much younger and more stupid years. Awful.

Depends on the fishing. It's 3 casts per minute the way I fish. So 2 hits in an hour would be one hit for 90 casts.
Great video, I enjoy watching your videos especially you give a lot of information. Keep it up👍🏻🎣
You are awesome. I love the slow motion . is there a lot of bait fish underneath ? How long those albi stay for ?
Hey John, do you ever get Bonita when using this method to catch Albies? Just curious
Rarely. I had one this year and saw a couple of others.

Ocean, sound or bay this time of year???
Sound. Very late October.
Awesome. Looks like you had a bunch of company that day. Love the videos. I fish the same bay areas as a lot of your videos.
Great video John. Been following your talks and video clips for years. Question: Do you bend the barbs back on your treble hooks when you fish for albies?
No, because the fish are hard to stay in contact with and the barbs on these hooks are small.
Respect Big John! I would like to know where bout on Long Island are you fishing on this trip? I live in Brooklyn, the Albies rarely come this way along the coastline.
North Shore, eastern half
Thanks, but could you be a bit more specific. I don't want to head out that way and get all the way there just to be told that I'm trespassing on private property. Dose this location have a access point that leads to public roadways?

the sound
They hardly showed up this year in New Jersey. Good to see someone get into them
ridenfish39 they were thick in New Jersey lol
Pie Pie nothing even close to what they were last season

You caught 523 albies from shore in just two seasons?
223 in 2016, I quit at 300 in 2017. Last two seasons not as plentiful, but their availability is extremely dependent on wind/weather. They stayed more off the beach this season than usual.
that looks like a lot of fun I need to try for fly fishing them sometime

Looks like a Shimano or Penn 4000
Nice fish, love the videos

Artie Show that’s Googan u can’t always enjoy eating fish just go for fun the craze of albies is so esctatic you would understand
I believe they are the same fish just called different things depending on where your from.
