Totally a huge era for pop punk!
Personally, it's my least favorite era though. I really don't like the production of most of the music from that time. Plus the music itself sounded very simple to me. I like what a lot of the genre started doing in the 2010s by adding a little more advanced music theory so we'd get a wider/subtler range of emotions.

If he wants to put it that way yeah. Pop means popular. Personally I still refer to it as Punk rock.
