Hey! I just got my approval for the Destination Thailand Visa! I submitted it originally on July 3, then they asked for more documentation on July 30: a fresh financial statement, my Spanish ID card, my plane ticket (which is a Catch-22 and a whole different problem...) and a portfolio of my work so I put together a PDF of my latest prototyping projects. And I got the approval today, categorized as a freelance software designer. So I'm good for max of 180 days in-country for the next 5 years which is perfect for my needs. No requirement to put any funds into a bank account or any health insurance like on my old O-A visa and no applying and paying for a re-entry permit every year. The whole process took 2 months but I'm sure they got a flood of applications. Mine was handled by the embassy in Madrid.

How am I supposed to pay for a flight 2 mo from now if I dont know the visa will be approved? also will the accomodations need to be for the full 180days? I submitted mine on Tuesday, still pending on Saturday. My fee was 350 Euros by applying from here in Spain. The web site is well done, no problems with the functionality, although I found I could only upload one document per criteria. This is unnecessarily limiting as since I'm freelance I gave them my US Social Security card that says I can legally work in the US, but I'd also like to upload a link to my RUclips channel showing all of the technical projects I've been doing. I hope they don't reject me for this! I also hope I don't have to pay another 350 Euros to try again, hopefully I can upload different documentation if they don't like something. Either an employment contract OR a showcase of your portfolio and projects. If you are truly a freelancer, you can attach the last 5-10 last projects you did, share info on your clients and what you did for them, and I think that will qualify. Try to find a local agent in Bangkok to help you, they always know what's needed for the embassies. It's a 5 year visa so really worth investing some extra cost with a professional service, I think that'll save you a lot of headache and frustration if you decide to do it yourself. That's what I plan to do anyways.
edit - I believe you can also attach a document that you are a sole-trader / freelancer. UK Gov for example gives that to you as a freelancer. Possibly a self-assesment yearly tax return will also show that you're a freelancer.
Again check with agents who know the deal.

When I was there a met a Canadian applicant and he submitted a ton of stuff to show he was a digital nomad software engineer and submitted his bank statements. However his application was denied with no reason but he was lucky as I witnessed him getting a cash refund of $400. The official Thai evisa website that is being pointed out in this video does clearly state in red writing NO REFUND. I think $400 is still a lot of money to lose if a visa application is denied. Hmm 🤔 what is best? Risk evisa website or go to the Thai embassy directly where I might get denied also but get a cash refund?

You didn't talk about the most important part which is the travel information. Obviously, if I don't get the visa, I am not going to Thailand, why would they ask the travel information before giving the visa? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense... I am not gonna buy a flight ticket if I don't get the visa... Did I miss something?

Here is what is needed for a DTV visa. A Muay Thai class is or other activities are not recommended to apply for as there are no real accredited classes or programs set up for this visa yet. Not saying you cannot get approved but it is much more difficult. This can change quickly as it's Thailand we are talking about.
    Needed documents to apply:
    Passport
    Passport photo with white background
Proof of finances 500k baht and above preferably showing 6 months even though they require less.
Proof of residence. Car registration, utilities...
If applying under digital nomad you need these documents
Employment or if self employed a business license or permit
    Portfolio and work history
    Cover letter
    Taxes
The point is to prove you aren't going to be a broke ass in Thailand and that you aren't taking Thai jobs in anyway. You should express this very clearly when applying. Since it is a new visa you should add to what is required such as 6 months of bank statements instead of 2 months etc...
And you are better off doing this through a lawyer such as siam legal as they will make sure all of your documents are in order and have you correct stuff you aren't aware of. Since this visa is new you should 100% go with a lawyer and pay the extra money to get it right the first time.

Hi, You need to apply DTV on line out of Thailand .After apply on line and get approved you need to go to Thai embassy (New York, D.C, Chicago and Los Angeles )to get a stamp and/or paper work ( Apply on line from US cost $400 USD, Each country the fee cost difference ). After 6 months in Thailand you can extended another 6 months by going to the Immigration office in Bangkok for the fee of 2,000 Bath ($55 USD). Total of 365 days stay .After that you need to leave Thailand. Then you can go back again without apply again. You can doing this for up to 5 years.

you had to go there in person to the embassy to pay ? i thought you pay online then pick up the visa from there. also usually won't the need the your passport to stick the visa into it ? how can you just collect a visa from the embassy ( is it piece of paper or something ?:)
