Theoretically after the DTV visa issuance you can close your home company and keep moving every 5,5 months and don't pay any taxes anywhere. But you have to keep moving and need a smart business. This remote worker visa as others is not meant for actually living long-term in the country and you should'nt, only for regular extended stays. I would much rather open a company and go all-in as I did in Indonesia in order to finally get a permanent residence that you can rely on and not be worried. But I'm not a nomad.
I agree in that setting up a full on Local Company is still a good option. Particularly for those wanting to put themselves on the path to Permanent Residency and eventually, citizenship (in the case of Thailand anyways). But having said that, you don’t need to have a company in your Home Country or in a high-tax jurisdiction to get this Visa. You could have a company in Hong Kong, Singapore, or another low-tax (or no tax) jurisdiction and have your business run through there while you operate it remotely from Thailand on a DTV (as long as you don’t have Thai customers, Thai partners, Thai employees, transact in Thailand, etc.) I have a bunch of friends here in Bangkok that did exactly this. They’ll still need to file a tax return here in Thailand as they spend more than 180 days per year here… but they don’t remit funds into a Thai Bank Account to cover their cost of living. That’s where the proof will be in the pudding as far as potential taxes owed in Thailand go. ie. - what is the true definition of “Remittance” in the eyes of the Tax Office. I’m not sure how that side of things will play out yet. Either way, no matter how you slice the pie… those wanting to put themselves on a real long-term path here in Thailand are still best setting up a legitimate Company here IMO. Would love to check out Indonesia at some point!

Thank you for this super helpful video. I am about to start the process of applying for DTV- so this was helpful. A few questions if you know the answer: 1. Have you found any resource online with a document example of the employment letter? My employee needs to know what exactly needs to be included to satisfy the purpose of the letter. 2. I know a lot is still unknown but is it your understanding that with one 180 day stamp you can leave as many times as you want or every time you re-enter you have to pay for a new 180 day stamp. Example- planning to move to BKK mid January or start of Feb. have to fly back to the states in May for a wedding. Will I have to pay for a new 180 days even though my first stamp will have only been about 90? I hope that makes sense! Thank you again
Thanks a lot Adam. Very useful. We met once last year at Det5. Do you know if the DTV visa would suit well RUclipsrs and influencers, who would do back and forth trips betweeen Thailand and their country?

Good to hear details. So many youtubers seem to be incorrectly saying the income requirement must be savings in a bank account. I have always assumed the requirement can be satisfied with foreign employment.

@@minotor7176 I gave multiple documents. I had a work verification from my employer that stated I work remotely, my bank statement that clearly showed the amount requested, a utility bill from the country of the embassy I applied at, as well as my ID
It’s superior in some ways, not in other ways. It all depends on what you do and what your goals are. I’d say it’s definitely a better option for those that work remotely outside of Thailand.
If you are saving +150,000 Baht in taxes that you would have to pay in your home country and live long-term in Thailand then isn't it worth it? Indonesia has a similar Remote worker visa but you are never fully a permanent resident with that, cannot pay taxes with that and if you are from a high-tax country it is useless. I chose to open a company. It all depends on your situation.
Your video is beneficial, thank you. I applied for a Thai visa in Germany a few years ago, and the people there called me to hand over the missing documents to avoid any delay. I guess embassies in European countries or North American countries work differently than in countries near Thailand.
@anarchoflow Glad I could help! Yes, for walk-ins you'll need to visit Laos (appointment required), Taipei, Jakarta, Manila or Yangon (appointment required). Most, if not all consulates will eventually move to the e-visa system, but so far, no additional ones are likely to make the switch until November.
@anarchoflow Walk ins are already over in Phnom Penh. From now on, it's evisa only and as you say that starts on Tuesday. For some reason, no applications are being accepted tomorrow (Monday).
@@ThePatriot-gm1fg Cheers, yes sorry I got that wrong, walk ins finished on 4/10, and yes e-visa starts on Tuesday 8/10. I'll be arriving in Phnom Penh on Thursday then will apply through the e-visa system. Crossing my fingers. Have you applied or are looking to apply in the future?

Great video Adam, super helpful. Does anyone know if one can apply for the DTV in person at the Thai embassy in Malaysia? Im British, will be visiting Thailand for 2-3 months to check things out, and then was planning to visit KL for a few weeks & apply for the DTV there.
First of all, great content and valuable information-much appreciated! Secondly, does anyone know how to meet the proof of funds requirement (500,000 THB) on a bank statement if I haven’t had this amount in my account for the past six months? If I transfer the funds a few weeks before applying, would that be acceptable? I realize it’s not ideal, but it’s the best I can manage for now. I have all the other required documents, and they meet the criteria. What would be your best advice on this? Thank you!
How long am I supposed to wait to enter Thailand, once the DTV is approved. I got mine approved in September and I am planning to enter Thailand in January-Feb. is it fine?
Hello guys , to apply for DTV under soft power, how long the course of study or training should be to get approval ? 6 month , one year ? For Mauy Thai for example?! I want to Buy a course but i need to be sure first? Anyone know ?
So the visa is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and each time you enter Thailand under the DTV in that time you should be given a 180 day permission of stay stamp which you may extend at a local immigration office once per entry for a further 180 days. If you don't go to Thailand for 2 years then nothing happens to your visa other than it being 2 years closer to expiry.
Coming and going on a DTV is unlikely to pose a problem. Youll probably be stamped in automatically with few questions asked. The extension part is a bit of a question mark though.
Just this second got approved for my DTV VISA!!! As mine is just a E-visa currently (pdf)Do I get this stamped in my passport at immigration when entering the county?
I have no idea why countries like Thailand would make it this complicated/difficult for foreigners who wish to spend time in the country. They bring foreign currency, they consume local services and products, they bring expertise and are essentially an asset to any place they do to, not a drain. I understand that in some cases it can lead to unaffordable real estate, but that could be easily fixed by putting restrictions. Anyway, great video Adam!
Because in the past like the 80s and 90s it was piss easy to stay in Thailand. Towards the 2000s there were some jobless backpackers who ended up in trouble there or homeless including older people. One man actually became homeless in Pattaya and stayed there. They realised it’s best to do this and profit from it at the same time 😉
Your comment lack of commonsense, how can general normal people stay for years without working? Their money can fall from the sky or what? unless they are rich then they can apply for elite Visa with expensive fee or they are people who work online with income from overseas which they can apply for DTV Visa or they are retiree who have pension or passive income so they can apply for retired VISA, or they are general tourists who want to spend vacation in Thailand which they can come for free for 60+30 days, or they are people who want to work in Thailand so they gonna get the work permit Visa. Thailand have all the option and you still complain? If you just let any foreigners come to your country for years without prove of income how can you know that people will not become criminal? or gonna work in Thailand illegally? There are many English teachers ( and many other jobs) who work in Thailand illegally without work permit, they don’t have any certificate for teaching and they don’t pay tax.

I was under the impression that the DTV holder was required to exit Thailand at, or before, 180 days and then re-enter to start another 180 days? Is that not the case? And what about Immigration reporting during the 180 days? Is the holder required to do 90 reporting? And i presume, at some point, the holder will be required to prove they still meet the issuance requirements in order to keep the visa valid, maybe after 1 year? Or every year?
@QuicknStraight Nah. That's how the visa works. Same as any multiple entry non immigrant visa. Can be used for continuous residence as long as you do the required border runs. Ideally, you'd spend a few days out of country on each trip but no one is going to tell you that you can't come back in on one. The DTV will be the same.
@@ThePatriot-gm1fg Well, for all those who have jumped on the DTV early, I hope you're right, although they have the habit of changing conditions at the drop of a hat!
when you showed your bank statements how many months was actually needed to show proof of that 500,000 bhat also that 500,000 bhat is the total of your income of over 3 months or so correct ?
At this point, there doesn’t seem to be any sort of specific timeframe you need to show you’ve had the 500,000 Baht for. Tim just showed 6-months worth of Bank Statements to be safe and basically prove to them that he wasn’t simply borrowing money from someone, printing out a bank statement, and then transferring the money out. This isn’t a requirement though. He just did it to minimize risk of the Thai Embassy asking for further documentation. As far as Income goes, at this point… there is no Income requirement.
I think you've misunderstood the requirement. The requirement is that you have a balance equivalent to 500,000 baht. The interviewee showed bank statements showing that their balance exceeded the equivalent of 500,000 baht for the previous 6 months. If you're applying from the U.S. then you will need to have a bank balance of at least $15,000 USD, from Europe it would be €13,500. Some embassies ask for a single bank statement showing the balance at the time of the application (and they do not care how the money go there, or when) whereas other more strict embassies ask for multiple historic bank statements to show the balance has remained stable over time.
@@samfuel If I just incorporate a company can I show the incorporation alone? The funds can be shown from a separate personal bank account? The reason I ask is, the company won't make any money, it is just for the purpose of acquiring the visa. But I have sufficient personal funds to show as proof. Thanks.
"In contrast to the coercive nature of hard power, soft power describes the use of positive attraction and persuasion to achieve foreign policy objectives."
Within the context of the DTV, the often cited examples are things like Muay Thai courses, Thai cooking courses or medical tourism. Really, it's things that promote Thailand on the world stage. While it's still an unknown, I wouldn't be surprised though if immigration would ask those who have their visa issued for soft power activities for proof that they are still engaged in those on both extension and entry. I think it's a bit naïve of people to think they'll be allowed to live in Thailand for 5 years with a 6 month Muay Thai course they purchased once.
I'm curious if they need proof that you're training Muay Thai or doing some education and also does this replace the education Visa? Oh and I read the extension is 1900.
I have to say, the way I got to know Thailand, the visa isn't quite ready yet and who knows what's to come, I could also imagine that there's still a U-turn. Who knows, maybe the extension will be combined with a tax return or something like that? We will find out with the time 😂😂😂
Exactly, nobody likes to talk about that 😂 Theoretically after the visa issuance you can close your home company and keep moving every 6 months and don't pay any taxes anywhere. Why would you pay high taxes in your home country if you don't often live there? These remote worker visas many countries offer are no longterm solution.
If people spend more than 180-Days per year in Thailand, that makes them a tax resident and they're supposed to file a Thai Tax Return in this case. As far as actually owing money goes... it depends on where that person comes from, the source of their foreign income, the nature of their foreign income (ie. Social Security, Rental Income, Earned Income through Employment, etc.), and then what the specifics say in the Double Taxation Agreements between Thailand and the corresponding Countries at play. People should consult with a Tax Attorney here in Thailand for all these things as each case is different.
No need for it to sit in your account for too long, except if you apply in Laos. Get it quick, because most countries are moving to e-visas by the end of the year.
I can see many people are happy but I worry about this with this new DTV visa you can be any age, a pot smoking, crypto bro, drop-shipping, new age vlogger, sex tourist lay about, that contributes nothing and can now pretty much live in Thailand with almost zero requirements.
Living in thailand contributes, taxis, hotels, food, traveling domestically, nights out - All this adds money into the economy of thailand, all those people you mentioned probably have and contribute more money than you......
Did you have to show proof that the company makes money? Can it be a new company just incorporated and not making money. Can we show the proof of funds from a personal account unrelated to the company itself? Thanks.
180 days You have 2 choice. 1. Extend your visa at immigration office 180 days for 1900 baht. 2. If you exit and enter Thailand before 180 days , the clock date start count day 1 again. You don't have to pay fee for extend visa. Both 2 ways , 5 years valid.

hi what exact document did u give ?
@@minotor7176 I gave multiple documents. I had a work verification from my employer that stated I work remotely, my bank statement that clearly showed the amount requested, a utility bill from the country of the embassy I applied at, as well as my ID
It was great getting my passport stamped and seeing that I had 6 months!
I was just listening to this and thought it was 'Retired Working For You'! Exactly same accent and speech pattern. Are you hos doppelganger!? 😲👀
Both Canadians
Incorporating in thailand cost around 150,000 baht so the DTV seems far superior. I’ll be applying this month as well.
So was he saying 15,000 USD/500,000THB cash-flowing in his bank account or in savings?
Your video is beneficial, thank you. I applied for a Thai visa in Germany a few years ago, and the people there called me to hand over the missing documents to avoid any delay. I guess embassies in European countries or North American countries work differently than in countries near Thailand.
Phnom Penh will transition to the e-visa system next month (October 2024). From then on, ONLY online applications will be accepted in Cambodia.
Very happy I saw this comment I was about to do the walk in process on 11/10/2024. They are stopping walk-in applications on 8/10/2024. Thanks.
@@anarchoflow I'm about to apply in just under 2 weeks from now but in Taipei.
What about "Document indicating current location", requirement n. 3?
I would like to apply for one. But I’m curious if my job would fall under this category. I work in the maritime industry, so I’m on the ship for 28 days and off for 28 days. Now I am married with two kids so mainly would like for them to be able to stay while I leave to work. Any thoughts?
I am curious if the guy you interviewed received any information about whether or not he needs to get a Work Permit in Thailand. Maybe not, because none of his work involves working for a Thai company or Thai customers or clients ?
You can't have Thai clients for this visa..it's a remote work visa only
You're not employed in Thailand, nor do you do any work with clients in Thailand... so the answer is no.
good video
Can you do a specific one for Muay Thai/Thai language courses and what is needed?
Im assuming its just the same available funds and a letter from a MT or langauge school?but im just guessing
Yep, I'll do one with someone that got the DTV via a Certified Thai Muay Thai School at some point in the next month or so

Does anyone know if one can apply for the DTV in person at the Thai embassy in Malaysia?
Im British, will be visiting Thailand for 2-3 months to check things out, and then was planning to visit KL for a few weeks & apply for the DTV there.
Yep - here's a link to help you out: kualalumpur.thaiembassy.org/en/publicservice/destination-thailand-visa-dtv
@@adamparker21 Cheers Adam. Much appreciated.
Thank you!
thanks, and when you provide bank statement, do you block out the account number or some of the numbers for safety, never done before
I did not block any.
If u have dtv visa and stay in thailand. Can you apply other country visa are u eligible

Is there a list (with hyperlinks) of the forms required?

@@adamparker21 Thank you!
The required documents to apply for the DTV visa should be translated to English or it's okay to be in my language? Thank You!
How long am I supposed to wait to enter Thailand, once the DTV is approved. I got mine approved in September and I am planning to enter Thailand in January-Feb. is it fine?
Thumbs up 👍 Adam
Hello guys , to apply for DTV under soft power, how long the course of study or training should be to get approval ? 6 month , one year ? For Mauy Thai for example?!
I want to Buy a course but i need to be sure first? Anyone know ?
Du I have go extend the Visa every year or can I just also not go 2 years and its still valid the remaining tims
Regarding to 180 days , you don't have to pay any thing when you go out and then return .
Just this second got approved for my DTV VISA!!! As mine is just a E-visa currently (pdf)Do I get this stamped in my passport at immigration when entering the county?

THANKS MAN! AS AN INDIAN I AM PLANNING TO APPLY BUT GOT STUCK IN BANK STATEMENT!
Because not everything is about money.
How about language schools? Nobody talked about this
Got my DTV visa today 👍🏻 . A quick question: How it works for a dependent? I believe the spouse/dependent visa will remain valid till my DTV expires….Or are we supposed to renew the dependent visa yearly? FOR HOW LONG CAN A DEPENDENT ACCOMPANY THE DTV VISA HOLDER

Do you need 500,000 THB in a account or just show you make that much in a 180 day period? Also how can I start the process in america?
You’ll need to show the Equivalent of 500K Thai Baht in a Bank Account
What if one wants to work for a thai company or us compnay doing business in Thailand?
That person would need to apply for a different type of Visa. Likely one of the various Non-Immigrant Visas that grant the ability to then go and apply for Work Authorization

The extension is another 10k baht, not the 1800 I believe.
Yes, 180 days per entry. No, eligibility does not need to proven after 1 year. The visa lasts for 5 years.
@@ThePatriot-gm1fg They say that now, but let's see what they say next year...
@@ThePatriot-gm1fg Well, for all those who have jumped on the DTV early, I hope you're right, although they have the habit of changing conditions at the drop of a hat!
whats this 180 days thing? you have to leave every 180 days even with the visa?
YES
Listen dude, listen or watch the video as many times as you need too
I would like to get as well
when you showed your bank statements how many months was actually needed to show proof of that 500,000 bhat also that 500,000 bhat is the total of your income of over 3 months or so correct ?

What is soft power?
Non-violent military influence, i.e. culture, sports, etc

We will find out with the time 😂😂😂
180 days interesting to see what happens after 180 days especially when it come to foreign income tax. That’s going to be the catch 21 😂
Tax is a big thing.... That will definally be a imterestimg other video
Any egg cooking schools in Bangkok...lol.hahaha.
I was planning to retire in TH
now changed my mind.
Why?
This visa does not make sense to me. At my age of 70 I would be better off filling for retirement visa.
But after a 1year u must go out
Will they owe taxes in Thailand? Their new tax laws make many expats wary..
No taxes for retirement visa holders it’s plain and simple on the Thai embassy website Don’t scare retirees Stop the cap
Now I need to save $20k and let it sit in my account then off the Thailand we go
No need for it to sit in your account for too long, except if you apply in Laos.
Living in thailand contributes, taxis, hotels, food, traveling domestically, nights out - All this adds money into the economy of thailand, all those people you mentioned probably have and contribute more money than you......
you still need to proof to them that you have a job or business abroad right

180 days
You have 2 choice.
1. Extend your visa at immigration office 180 days for 1900 baht.
2. If you exit and enter Thailand before 180 days , the clock date start count day 1 again. You don't have to pay fee for extend visa.
