  • Nikon D50. The Nikon D50 is a consumer grade DSLR released in 2005. That makes the Nikon D50 17 years old, so its the Nikon D50 still worth buying in 2022. The Nikon D50 is 6.1 megapixels. The D50 is a crop sensor camera and has an ISO range of 200-1600 ISO. The Nikon D50 in 2022 uses a single SD slow with a size limitation of about 4 gigs. The Nikon D50 in 2022 ranges in price, from the lowest I found of 6 dollars, all the way up to 225 dollars. The Nikon D50 in 2022 does not have video capabilities but is an extremely budget friendly DSLR, so is the Nikon D50 worth buying in 2022?

    This is great to hear. I inherited a D50 from my uncle when he passed and it came with a strobe flash, lenses, all the great stuff that I would not be able to afford for ages right now if not for this.

    I was in Hawaii with my Nikon D 50 and I was able to take some very nice photos that I took at Volcanoes National Park. Looking at the floor of a deflated Halemaumau Crater I was able to get details that were very nice. I also was able to capture the inside of Thurston Lava Tube.

    The D50 has a Sony CCD ICX-453-AQ sensor and autofocus motor. This sensor was only used in the D50, D40, D70 and D70s. The D50 is the only model with this specific sensor batch and AF motor. 5 points AF works fast and nails the autofocus everytime. CCD vs CMOS? you decide. Hasselblad still uses CCD sensors. Let that sink in.

    Hi Nick
    Good video! The D50 had some good and not so good features. The focusing motor was one reason I purchased it. But the small monitor turned me off. I'm glad it found a good home!!
    Best wishes
    Duane

    • @PinkhatPhotography

      Yeah lol the monitor is so small, makes my usual showing the photos to the model hard hahaha

    • @hrpickinstuff
      @hrpickinstuff Год назад

      You would not last long in the film era. IMHO you shouldn't be using your monitor much anyways. I snap a shot and look at my exposure real quick all I want to know is if its too light or dark. Then I keep shooting. I might pause after a cluster of shots just to quickly acroll to make sure my auto focus is on point. even with todays modern cameras. I don't use the screen much when I'm taking photos.

    Nice video. 😁
    Please can I ask a question. Just been given a Nikon D50 with 3 lenses. I need a SD card upto 2Gb to store photos BUT does the shutter work ( to test camera is okay ) and make a noise without a card inside ? The display says -E- which according to the user guide means NO CARD. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you, David.

    • @PinkhatPhotography
      @PinkhatPhotography  2 года назад

      I would get a super cheap chard to test the camera with so you're not too invested

    • @hrpickinstuff
      @hrpickinstuff Год назад +1

      -E- means no readable card. Try a 1GB then a 2GB. BTW you can pick these up dirt cheap because people think its broken because of the -E- code. I got a D100 for $20 all I did was put a card in it. Another guy sold me a D5000 like new with less than 4k click for $25 for the same reason. He thought it was broken for parts only.

    I still have my trusty N50 along with a telephoto and macro lense plus the one it came with. Next year I will be taking my trip of a lifetime to Antarctica and wonder if this setup is going to be adequate. On the one hand, I'm already spending so much on the trip I don't want to fork over more money for a new camera, but on the other hand I'm spending so much money on this trip I don't want to be disappointed with my pictures, either. What's your advice?

    • @PinkhatPhotography

      Oh that's such a hard one! The d50 is a fantastic camera, personally I would get a d3*** or d5*** series as a backup just in case. Your lenses sound perfect though

    Have you ever shot a Nikon D100? Also 6.1 MP with a CCD sensor. I know you enjoy the Nikon D50, would love to see you do a comparison between the two. I have a Nikon D100 and enjoy using it for street photography. Great content, liked and subscribed.

    D50 has been my main camera since I purchased it back in the aughts. I bought it to upgrade from my N65 setup to digital it’s worked great for just about everything I’ve needed it for (events, light painting, birds, landscapes, etc.). I do have a speed flash, remote, and a few different lenses. As a long term amateur, I feel it’s time for an upgrade. Personally, using the SD card (low capacity) is becoming burdensome, especially with Bluetooth/wireless connectivity available now.

    • @PinkhatPhotography
      @PinkhatPhotography  2 года назад +1

      Oh man it's such a great camera though! Lol but for reals, any ideas what you'll upgrade too?

    • @JP1050x
      @JP1050x Год назад +2

      I still shoot with a N65. And occasionally shoot with my D50. Both are great cameras. I love the small 6MP raw files from the D50, which you can easily transfer to a phone with a SD card adapter.
      I also have nice full frame cameras. But I really wouldn’t be at a loss if I only used my D50 for digital photos.

    Thank you for the very good review , I'm just a little confused insofar as all my Nikon D50's will only accept a 2GB SD card , .they will not accept a 4GB sd card , I have X 4 , D50's , I have converted 3 of them to full spectrum photography . I had foolishly purchased X 2, 4GB cards on Ebay , however they where cheap & I guess I can use the cards for other purposes .

  • @cerij4242

    My D50 is one camera I would hang on to above all others, it takes superb photos. Don't get caught with the 6.1 mega pixel believe me when you see the results you wont believe it's just 6mp, the colours are just right it's so easy to use and the internal motor is a bonus. I have a D800 with 36mp but for normal sized photos I think the D50 has a better straight out of the camera photo, the more mega pixels you have the better your lenses have to be. If you see a cheap one in good working condition it's a bargain of a lifetime.

    I have a chance to get one in almost new condition and listed as a camera in a box. It looks like a complete package that Nikon offered that's a whole bunch of small boxes in a big box and comes with an extra tameron lense that looks like it may be a zoom. All for $150.00 and I'm wondering if you think it's worth it?

      The D80 I would put in the same boat as the 7000 series Nikons a prosumer camera, where as the D50 is a consumer grade camera, It might have been difficult since I didn't say grade in the video but that is what I meant. The D50 was 799 when released where as the D80 cost about a grand on release a year later
