  • The Yamaha DGX 670 is a highly anticipated digital piano that has garnered attention from musicians and enthusiasts alike. With its versatile range of features and advanced technology, the DGX 670 is designed to meet the demands of modern-day pianists. In this test-run, we'll explore the various aspects of the DGX 670 and see how it fares in terms of sound quality, playability, and overall performance. Whether you're a seasoned pianist or just starting out, join us as we take a closer look at the new Yamaha DGX 670.
    now for those who wonder why I would buy this when I already own a Motif, it is more about the fun of playing with the accompaniment especially. 😃
    The Yamaha DGX 670 and the Motif XF8 are two very different digital pianos that cater to different audiences. The DGX 670 is primarily designed for home use and is targeted towards intermediate to advanced players, whereas the Motif XF8 is a professional-grade synthesizer workstation aimed at professional musicians, composers, and producers. It is a killer keyboard which is why I have not had to buy any other keyboard since 2010!!!
    In terms of sound, the Motif XF8 has a more extensive library of high-quality sounds and samples than the DGX 670. It also has advanced sound synthesis capabilities, including sample-based and virtual analog synthesis, which allow for more complex sound design.
    🎹😁On the other hand, the DGX 670 focuses more on providing a realistic piano-playing experience with its weighted keys, high-quality piano samples, and authentic touch response. It also offers a wide range of accompaniment styles and features, making it an ideal choice for those who want to practice playing along with a band or backing track.
    🥺 In terms of price, the Motif XF8 is significantly more expensive than the DGX 670, reflecting its more professional-grade features and capabilities.
    😁 Overall, if you're a professional musician or composer looking for a powerful synthesizer workstation, the Motif XF8 is likely the better choice. However, if you're a home player or intermediate to advanced pianist looking for a versatile and realistic digital piano, the DGX 670 is an excellent option to consider

      You can play plugins in keyboard. Just edit the midi settings to turn off keyboard sounds, and play plugin. I like playing arturia and native intruments plugins on it such as noire. Seems like it can do it all, and the keys feel nice

    a very helpful video. I liked the guitar vocies on my yamha dgx 660 but did not realize some of them have a slide to them. I like how you played the guitar voices that made them sound so good, I think more on the upper keyboard. My dgx 660 does not have EP in the Piano room or a cathedral sound in the piano room.

      Ah! Well consider trading in your 660 at Guitar center. I paid a little over $100 after several trade ins and a gift card.

    Man!!! you made that keyboard sound great. I also wanted to get a keyboard with updated sounds. I do want to purchase my Motif ES7 back or go for the XS. The Montage, new Fantom or Korg Kronos I will have to choose from them. I just love physical keyboards, VST is not the ideal , the sounds are just too digital and not warm at all. Listening to your Jazz progressions gives me a Sade feel, I might have to try to sing in that Jazz key.

      Thanks Phil and true some VSTs are out of whack. I should do a video on some of the decent ones :)

    Nice job. Any idea if Yamaha is soon to release the 680 yet?

    • @phillc
      @phillc  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you 🙏 @AimingWanderously! There is no official announcement yet from Yamaha about the release of the DGX-680 to my knowledge. However, based on the release dates of previous DGX models, it is possible that the DGX-680 will be released in 2025 or 2026.The DGX-670 was released in April 2021, and the DGX-660 was released in October 2017. So, there is usually a gap of 4-5 years between the release of two consecutive DGX models. Of course, this is just speculation. Yamaha may decide to release the DGX-680 sooner or later than 2025 or 2026.

      @@phillc Thanks for the nice reply. The 640, 650, and 660 were all about 3 yrs apart (per Wikipedia) and I'm hoping they go back to the 3yr span this time and we see it this coming year! I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I'd love to see a larger 7" touch screen like the PSR SX700+ have, which I suspect would be an enhancement on the next rendition...so I'm torn whether I buy or wait it out. The fact that most retailers have the 670s on sale right now has me suspicious of a new release soon.

    Do you play mostly by ear?

    • @phillc
      @phillc  10 месяцев назад +3

      Mostly by ear although I learned solid theory of chord formations, from major to minor, dim and everything in-between and scales but my reading is worthless 😂 so when I play it is with a combination of theory of what works and feel or ear.

    • @suzannestalksandinterviews
      @suzannestalksandinterviews 10 месяцев назад +1

      knowing all those chords with the playing by ear works well!

    • @LorraineIwakashdan
      @LorraineIwakashdan 9 месяцев назад +1

      Do a video about your method please. I try to read treble clef and chords for the left but don't know theory of chords. I think it's a better way to play.
