Eli, this is great to see. I am from the United States, and I have been married for the past 13 years to a Russian man who grew up in the Pskov Oblast, in Veliki Luki.. I have been to Veliki Luki twice to visit close friends of his. They have a place in the city, but mostly stay on their dacha where they have an amazing garden and a large house that they have been slowly building by hand for the last twenty years. Lyosha works as a construction manager and he knows more than anyone about investment and infrastructure in the Pskov Oblast. I need to let you know that you are seeing Pskov in the middle of a great surge in investments in the area. It used to be MUCH more depressed. Our friends tell us that it is almost unrecognizable now. I could see from you video that it looks very clean, beautiful & thriving. Certainly it has a long way to go. I remember driving past many deserted villages in the area on roads that needed a lot of work. And what is happening to Pskov City is happening much more slowly in the rest of the Oblast. For instance, Veliki Luki's population has lost about 100,000, mony of whom are moving to Pskov City, which has grown by about 100,000. It is still a depressed oblast, but things are changing rapidly Lhosha and Lena now live in Pskov five days a week (about two hours away from their dacha in Veliki Luki) because there is great work there for a construction manager, and they return to their dacha for the weekends. I have a feeling that the island will start to come back to life (hopefully not too much!) as will the rest of the oblast in the coming years. Sometimes it is the most depressed region that experiences the most change during times of rebuilding. Pskov Oblast is starting to blossom.
I love these people. Salt of the earth. Normal, sensible and mostly decent. They live a real life. The world still spins under their feet. May they still be there in 3024AD.
Pskov was the first stop on my visit to Russia. I crossed the border from Estonia on a trip that would take me next to Novgorod, then St. Petersburg, then Karelia. I see what you are doing in this video, concentrating on the remote islands in Lake Psovkoe. For me, however, it was the depth of the history of the region, the beauty of the medieval architecture and a brush with the history of the tradition of the painting of icons. A visit to the Holy Dormiton Monastery in Pechory encapsulated what I enjoyed about my visit to this region. This was the first and, at this point, my only visit to Russia. When peace returns and things settle down, I hope to come back. When I do, Pskov will again be my first stop: this time, I hope to spend more time there. Thank you for this video.
Amazing videos, Eli, Me as Lithuanian never seen such a great parts of that amazing country. I hope that one day I will have a chance to visit those places. And I hope entire world will get a peace. When you showing those places I'm sure that will all have enough space to live in peace and share joy with each other. I hope we will stay well in the future ❤
Eli, that was delightful. Though not a Russian speaker, I have no trouble pronouncing Pskov since, as a Russian opera fan, I immediately think of The Maid of Pskov. Further, as some of your watchers may or may not know, Pskov was where Nicholas II abdicated in 1917 after his train had been diverted there.
This will go well with my morning coffee... Your documentaries become better and better, Eli. Thank you, as always, for sharing these adventures, interviews and observations. Waste is a huge issue in the US public lands and tourist locations. There are several slogans, "pack it in, pack it out" and "leave no trace" being the most common. It is obviously a sign of laziness and disregard for others and the environment to leave trash behind anywhere in the world.

Thanks Eli good to see your vids popping up again. Looks like a great place to live if you like simple living, I would, but like our Tasmania until they build a bridge in need to move when I want not wait for a ferry. Take care from the land of the desert dingo.
So stunning, living alongside nature. Not fighting against it. Any country should not be judged by one city. But that applies more to Russian due to its size. Loving these travels of yours around each region of Russia. I hope you get a chance to travel to Sakhalin Oblast and the Kuril Isalnds. I adore how remote they are and the nature. Just like these wonderful islands you visited. Thank you, and your skill and travel are much appreciated.
It would be great if you talked more about the organization of the trip, maybe dedicate a few separate videos describing how to get around in places like these and what would be the average cost. Not everything can be found online, but this is a gem. Greetings from Serbia ❤
The Pskov region is nice, have been to Pskov a number of times, in Petseri they have a nice monastery as well, i longed to go back a little when i saw the pictures from Pskov. Hi Eli, this is the second time I've watched another video about PSKOV. The first vlog was from an archeologist guy. His channel is called Dima's life. He does vlogging places they go through or pass through for excavation destinations. According to him, they were there to excavate suspected presence of artifacts inside the fortress. You two vlog differently. Your narration is more succinct - clearly expressing your topic about the history of the area, talk to people how they go about daily life, how they earn their livelihood. Dima on the other hand randomly describes bits and pieces of Pskov about the fortress and it's surroundings and how it became Kremlin at one time. It's refreshing to hear you invite people to visit the island in accordance with the season. Living in this island is tough I bet but based from the story of the lady - sounds magical at the same time. Perfect place for pondering. Nice narration - good job Eli!
A very interesting place to visit. Island life must so pleasant despite the tourist numbers increasing in the summer but must be very cold in the winter. Thanks for the video. Really interesting!
