For everyone here wanting better filtered air all you need to do is take any of these high end filters and tape it to the back of a 20x20" box fan. That way you don't strain your HVAC filter and HVAC fan.
can you elaborate your suggestion pls. I just got a house and i wanted to make sure i get the right filter for my system. I care more about the system than the quality of air in my house.. so really which filter is best?
@@g2u499 Common mistake is to put a high MERV filter on your main HVAC system, it will strain your system and the filter will get clogged very quickly. (depending on dust, pets occupants etc) you can help your HVAC filter the air better by running a box fan with a high MERV filter on it, and put a simple cheap filter on your main HVAC
Good explanation! I rigged five 20x20x1" filters together to run through a 20" box fan to blow fresh air on my computers. With five I was able to use MERV9 and still have good airflow. It's now a 20" by 20" by 20" filter cube with the fan sucking in on the sixth 20" square, blowing that fresh filtered air out. I got tired of desert dust on my PC filters having to be taken out every few weeks.... and the filters on them are not really that small because they don't want to restrict the airflow. So I found it better to just pre-filter the air before it even got to the PC. But this also means I have a pretty good filter unit on my computer bench filtering the house air pretty well. I put baby buggy bumpers under the bottom to raise that bottom filter up a half inch and let air in the bottom. It also sits at the end of the bench so half the bottom filter hangs out into open air. I also use a MERV 4 to bring air into the house from outside3, intending to pressurize the house so fresh air blows out keeping outside dust from getting in tr9ough cracks.
I use the MERV 1 filter. My A/C is 22 years old and has never given me one problem. To keep the air clean in my home I have air purifiers with hyper HEPA filters which I believe do a better job than my A/C could do.
My last home I had an electrostatic filter in my air return that was connected to a sensor on the wall next to my thermostat. When it was time to clean, the sensors green light would change to red. It had two sections about 4” in depth that I could remove from the air return and then wash both sections in my dishwasher. They were both completely stainless steel. It also had a normal filter that was part of the ceiling drop down cover that was 1” in thickness that I would take outside and wash with hose. It also was stainless steel. Without a doubt, the best filter system you could get. Bought it because of severe allergy problems in spring and summer. Never saw the usual dust monkeys ever again when you look into the sun towards one of your windows. Cleanest air money can buy. Paid an extra $500.00 to install when installing brand new AC system in 1996. Filtration system still works like brand new, but sold home so don’t ask what make or model. Wish I had in new home, but using merv11 filters and changing every 2 months because seem to be getting dirty during winter months. Using gas fired high efficiency furnace to heat home (northeast PA).
Thank you for the tutorial. I have a 16 25 5 merv 11 filter. Does the merv rating have anything to do do with the quality and efficiency of the AC unit . Please advise me.
Thank you .I appreciate the your ac filter info. At this time I have a 16 25 5 filter with an 11 Merv. Does the merv rating have anything to do with the quality and efficiency of the AC unit. Please advise me.
I have not tested that filter, so no compatible data available. However, with my experience, every washable filter becomes more restrictive over time, even when clean. Typically a 18-24 month useful life when washed out well every 4-6 weeks.

Yeah that story kinda was dragging
You have the gift of teaching!!! Well Done!
Good explanation!

I use a MERV 8 and replace every month. My house isn’t dusty anymore.
Great filter information thanks
Very educational. Thank you, sir.
I use the FPR #7 from Home Depot.
That awesome thanks I’m getting a new hvac system and getting a new 5” put in glad to hear that really is the best choice
So wise , Thank You
Thank you for the tutorial. I have a 16 25 5 merv 11 filter. Does the merv rating have anything to do do with the quality and efficiency of the AC unit . Please advise me.
Soooooo which one is the best? Does the best filtering and less restricted air flow?
Thank you
Live in Georgia. In case of ac failure I have some box fans and ceiling fans.
Thank you .I appreciate the your ac filter info. At this time I have a 16 25 5 filter with an 11 Merv. Does the merv rating have anything to do with the quality and efficiency of the AC unit. Please advise me.
Jeanne sorry for the slow reply, missed tour comment.
The merv rating is related to the efficiency of the filter only, not the AC.
My filter is like a giant scotch brite that I just vacuum every change of the season.
What company makes that?
Didn’t explain the microns in the washable filter !
What other ac filter can I use instead of 17x19x1?
You forgot the variables pets and children . Check your filter every month if it looks durty change it dont care what size it is!
What do you think of the K and N washable filter that is Merv 11? I don't know what the pressure drop is?
I have not tested that filter, so no compatible data available.

Typically a 18-24 month useful life when washed out well every 4-6 weeks.
@@Hobaicaservicesphoenix Good to know! Thanks for the info..
Hot as Hell this summer. I don't know where the filter is?
I was just breathe out of my nose like you're supposed to.
My AC is blowing but not cool!
Makes me think of the Masks we have to wear. Restricting Air flow Oxygen
Also keeps away viruses.
Why do you insist on stating the obvious in your opening statements ? Taking about 5" filters is a none starter this is a commercial item.
