My girlfriend is from DR and she always has the house smelling like faboulouso and good food with that batchata in the background. I'm African American so the house be smelling like bleach lol. When she comes to my house it's old skoo music and Soul food. We both love each others culture.

@@Pr0d3gi thats what cambodians look like. We either look asian, pacific islander, or mixed with black. People mistake me for samoan or half black all the time but I am full blooded cambodian. Its probably due to my stature. We’re either really big or small hahaha
I spent one year in the DR as a 10 year old, because my dad is a crane operator and the company was building a bridge out there. We had a maid and every day she'd make a fried eggs and fried plantains for breakfast. It was wild. They also had a burger joint that was hitting. I'm 40 now so I cant remember any names. But the food situation was real. Then again I'm coming from a black American soul food point of view.
I used to always eat there when I lived in Allentown Pennsylvania I'm born and raised in the Bronx NYC and grow up around Caribbean so eating at punta canta made me feel like home 😊
DR is such a nice place to visit! Friendly locals, great food, and beautiful landscapes.

That is some damn good food, especially on winter days. When it's that full of sabor, you really don't need all the hot peppers the we're so fond of.....just had two different steaks this past weekend for Father's Day, one rubbed and one marinated, and they were some of the best I've had in a decade or two. Surprised you didn't know that was platanos maduros (or you were just playin' it), and not bananas or plaaantaaayns. Lol. Loved the grace or blessing before you guys dug in. Those oxtails looked like the real deal.

Hey Jeff! Keep the videos coming! I've met a number of afro latina Dominican ladies in my day and your wife is the first that I've heard call herself black. The black girl magic tshirt was throwing me off. the afro latina Dominican ladies I've met get extremely angry if you call them black and they had much darker complexions than your wife. They say no, I'm Dominican not black. Anyway, have a great day.
OMG JL Jupiter, I appreciate your comment about the lack of seasoning in Dominican food. It’s so true. And for that reason I really don’t care for their food.
I visited the Dominican Republic with family about five years ago. While there we had a great time with touring and participating in various water activities. But when it came to the food, which looked really great, we were so disappointed. So much so that a relative and I decided we’d cook our own meals. So, we went grocery shopping and bought vegetables, meat, and seasonings (salt and pepper) to cook our meals for the last three days of our stay.
Thank goodness we had certain vegetables (onions, garlic, and hot peppers) to help enhance the taste of the food, because for some reason even the salt we bought at the store had absolutely no flavor at all. We just couldn’t figure it out. We left the Dominican Republic thinking that the travel might have compromised our taste buds. Little did we know that Dominican Republic food is tasteless.
That being said, we still had a great visit and met some wonderful people.

I see similarities with Puerto Rican cuisine and culture.. they too have no spice.. well at least some restaurants there offer the pepper vinegar- for lack of better words. I think they call it picque or sum like that- but u gotta ask for it. Shout outs to the Carribbean👍🏼
Us Boricuas and Dominicans are kinda similar.
I always mix the rice and beans then take bites with everything on the plate. Each time you do it the ratio is different so it’s like a different bite every time. Definitely not weird it’s the only way to do it.

I am Dominican that lives in Tucson. Let me tell you....the Mexican food here will want you to convert nationalities lol. My mom moved here as well, I have given her food to friends at work , they absolutely love it. Like all races, love our food. Only issue is, I got best of both worlds.....I am fat!

Dominican and Haitian food is similar but Haitian have the “Pikliz” or spicy cabbage salad for spice on the side. I don’t think Dominicans have any spice condiment like that, same with Cubans and Colombian food. Just all savory like you mentioned. But VERY filling

If you do your research on tilapia, you understand why. Are used to be my favorite fish no longer. Everything looks good.
