ngl i don't have an issue with people who use ai generated thumbnails because they can't find the right time, money or person to do it. but keep in mind that about 90% of the games that use these thumbnails have masses of players reeling in money, and large playerbases too. it wouldn't be that difficult or much of a loss to commission a gfx or illustrator artist to make something more decent. hell, there's even games that originally _had_ original gfx/illustrations as their thumbnail, but then got switched to these really terrible ai images. trust me, when i saw robloxian high school's new icon, i cringed. like genuinely, the game isn't even recognisable with the new thumbnail - and it looks soulless and absolutely indifferent to all the other ai generated thumbnails out there. the original icons are what make the games stand out imo, and a lack of that makes it visually unappealing unless you're under the age of 10.
