When I was young I had a huge family. Now all gone. I knew many that sailed the oceans in a world that was only partially explored. I have thousands of historical and family photos & artifacts. When I die I suppose it will all end up at a flea market or the landfill. Not many in younger generations and none that are interested in days gone by.

I LOVE the piano music. It is so beautiful. Thank you for showing us Valeria! It is al little bit sad, seeing that photo album. The person carefully putting the photos in, surely did not imagine the albunm ending up on a flea market.

My sister came into possession of a trunk full of old family photos. She was able to determine the family name. When she contacted the remaining family members, they were overjoyed to get the photos back. The trunk had been donated to charity after the relative who had it died, and none of his friends knew how to contact the living relatives.

I love the family photo album! I hate to see a family's photos get lost, or thrown away, because it's their history! Anyway, I enjoyed seeing those pictures very much.
I could have spent a lot of time going through certain items - the post cards, coins, and well, all of it! :-) It's great that you took us along with you for this visit to a flea market. As we say in English, "One man's junk, is another man's treasure!" :-D

Thank you for the tour through the flea market, Valeria ma'am, it refreshed my memory of me buying the Soviet era coins, stamps, currency notes, military pins and lapels, sports achievement pins - all of which I purchased from a man selling these things on a footpath in Vladivostok (in 2012 when I visited). The man gave them away pretty cheap, and he even demanded an Indian souvenir from me in exchange ...ha ha ! I was not carrying anything of historical value (obviously), so I gave him a currency note of 10 INR (in use now too) , and he immediately recognized the bald person's figure printed on it (Gandhi)...LOL

It is interesting that the seller says you must buy something if you're going to film there. I don't know how he thinks he can enforce that. I was a little surprised to see insulin for sale at 2:40. It must not be illegal in Russia, but it sure is here in the States. I use the kind in the green tube. I found your handling of so many precious old items very reverent. It really touched me.

Majority - from the later batch. There are, however, people who trade at the flea markets for living. They collect old stuff from their neighbors, relatives, etc., often even rummage through garbage to find an interesting stuff, which they later clean, sometimes - repair and sell for a much higher price, they obtained it. Some even have a RUclips channels about their adventures. :)

Noticed coin collector albums with old coins. Are old Russian coins made out of silver and gold? Old USA coins were hard currency actually made of precious metals to back their face value. These coins were not fiat money as we have today.

How strange it seems to see things or precious belongings of people like photo albums, medals etc ending up at a Flea market! None of these things hold any sentimental value for the families of next generations who probably just boxed everything and gave them away, while those who owned them are long gone. Yet, we continue to collect and acquire things, prize and what not, to only leave them behind....

Ms. Kotunova! When you and your husband were looking at the old photo album, did you notice any names on it or the photos? Was there any indication of the family's history which might be unique? We knew an old lady (now long deceased) who came here in 1979 with her family (still among the living), and there are some resemblances . . . but goodness, it looks like it could be her family!

In summer a smaller flea market is working in the center of Moscow (in a hidden place) nearby Park of Culture metro station. Ask someone to find out the days of its operation on the Internet. Few years ago it was opened two or three days a week. There are actually more flea markets in Moscow and its outskirts. Search youtube by words (Блошиный рынок в Москве - flea market in Moscow)

I have a question for everyone, Please someone correct me if im wrong. Is the reason why Russian people don't want to be filmed because of its horrific past of the KGB, and the Gulags and because of there hatred towards the Germans during WW2 and post war ww2? Are Russians afraid that Western spies or people of the West will recognize them and prosecute them?, for say war crimes, or for other means? I have noticed in a number of Russia videos and from certain Russian youtubers say that Russia has a very strict No Flimming policy.

This is empty propaganda Western media is more profitable to consider through a microscope other people's tiny specks in the eye, and distract from their piled logs. In the GULAG sat less people than in the modern United States and most of them sat for violating the laws of the USSR and in U.S. prisons with people treated no better, and maybe worse than in the GULAG, and what is done in Guantanamo is medieval barbarism. The CIA is a much bloodier organization than the KGB and it killed a lot of us citizens and people around the world and it is Americans who are afraid of trial for war crimes and therefore threaten the judges of the international Tribunal in the Hague to impose sanctions against them, if they begin to investigate the war crimes of Americans in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, where they bombed many schools and hospitals, as well as peaceful marches of citizens of these States. Are Americans afraid that they will have to answer for the rape of minors in Japan, Germany, Colombia, Britain. After the second world war hatred of Germans and Japanese. was strongest in the Anglo Saxon countries it can be traced even kinematografu

The guy in the video simply was trying to extort some money from Valeria, when he saw, she's filming, while speaking a foreign language. Quite possibly, he thought, she's a foreign tourist - a number one target for such attempts.
As for people on the streets in general - well, I heard people in the US aren't usually happy, when some stranger deliberately films them without their permission. Is this because of horrific past of McCarthyism and FBI repressions? Or maybe it's just that - they feel uneasy when some stranger films them?
