    Haha, I love what your colleague said! The first time you have to disassemble a 20 neck tell the customer to get a Buescher or you're retiring.

    nice video, Matt! thanks for making these and putting them up. I bet that making videos probably takes away an appreciable amount of time that you could otherwise be repairing saxophones, so I appreciate you taking that time to put them up for the rest of us.
    I'm no kind of woodwind player, but I am an accordion player and watching your videos has encouraged me to start trying to repair my own instruments. I've only had to do small things so far, but, thankfully, nothing has broken catastrophically yet!

      Thank you! Indeed, I read your comment at 11pm while working in the shop to make up for time I spent earlier in the day making this video.

    Hi Matt, thanks for the video I have experienced the pain with those necks on Zephyrs and super 20's. BTW cleaning the lapping compound inside the tennons is easily done with a de-greaser spray. I get them in Australia from Automotive shops for a few dollars. The jet of the spray can gets in and cleans pretty well. Rinse after with soapy water. Cheers !

      I like that idea. Ever run into a problem with it attacking a lacquer finish?

    I always check the neck fit on play conditions. It's surprising how many players don't realize this can be a leak source and how many times I find neck screws in backwards or just plain missing. I wasn't aware that Kings were brazed together. Good to know. I've been fortunate to not come across one that's really hopeless. Magnehelic leak test might be an even better check, but maybe too much?

    Interesting Matt. Thanks.
    The Kings and Conn 6Ms are great too. I agree.

    Great video - on this subject - I recently purchased a King Super 20 alto which had a newly installed double socket tenon and receiver using Mike Barnes (UK) handmade parts. Also received the original parts. It seems to play fine. Any comment on this way of dealing with it ?

    So what if you have a situation where the neck is sealing but the screw isn't biting down enough to allow the neck from not turning?

    Any tips for stuck pivot screws? I have tried an alcohol flame and penetrating oil and have had no luck.

      perfectly sized high quality screwdriver that fills the whole screw slot (this is of *paramount* importance), penetrating oil, heat, time, vibration.

    This video has made me realize my Zephyr may have always articulated poorly because its leaking up at the neck!

    What do you think the cost of having my Neck checked out and refitted for my saxophone? An estimate would be fine as well.

    • @StohrerMusic
      @StohrerMusic  8 лет назад

      Completely depends. Sometimes they are totally fine and don't need a fitting. Sometimes it takes hours. It depends on the make and model and condition it is in.

    Couesnon double sockets are the Conn style, right?

    • @StohrerMusic
      @StohrerMusic  7 лет назад +1

      It has been a while so I could be wrong, but I believe they are the Conn style with a much shorter inner tenon.
