    I've been a TD fan since my early teens, and I'm in my early sixties now, and I just have to say that Thorsten Quaeschning's handling of TD since the death of Edgar has been most admirable.

    I've seen Thorsten in lots of issues of Musotalk, a german youtube channel for (mostly) electronic musicians and found him always being a very nice guy, very sympathetic, never snobby and very musical. Nice to see him in sonicstate showing his rig!

    Old TD fans who gave up on the band in the 1990s and early 2000s need to come back. The current lineup and work of TD is to me the best they have been in many, many years. Like, going back to Chris Franke, or even Peter Baumann. Yes, I realize that's saying a lot. But give them a listen, especially the Sessions works, which harkens back to when Froese, Franke and Baumann would virtually improvise entire shows in the 1970s and the "Tangerine Trees" bootlegs.

    • @chaosme1ster
      @chaosme1ster 2 года назад +1

      Thx for the tip. I'd indeed switched off on the modern TD work, myself coming from the Virgin years, and not really liking most of that they've done afterwards. I'll give the more recent work a listen.

      @phil Anderson I agree the middle "girly* years went very limp, but in the mid 2000s TD came back to life. I sometimes wonder if Jerome left because things had changed (plus he and his dad found it difficult to work together, in the shadow of his father). Jerome's album Neptunes is a wonderful example of what he is capable of in his own right. For me I feel there was a marked turn when Ulrich joined and brought new fire and subtlety, his own style is very organic. Ulrich had been a huge fan of TD for many years before joining. I feel Thorsten is the right captain now,after all he's been with TD for a very long time. And Paul Frick has also added a new element that I like, listen to Raum which although definitely very modern, has wonderful depth. I love Hoshimo's violin work, but she looks so uncomfortable live on stage.

      they are not keeping the band going. They are exploiting the name and legacy of TD by playing similar music and some covers. I've seen the classic lineup, when all of the originals leave it is no longer "the band", even if they were playing in the many line-ups. If you are confident in your music, pick an original name and put your music out to be judged on its own terms. Billy Preston couldn't tour as The Beatles.

    I like that T.D. uses a mix of everything that works and is not dismissive about only using this or that (AKA only using real hardware, no software synths, etc.) I often find myself just wanting to use hardware only, and I need to get over the fact that other means such as computers and soft synths can be very helpful in plenty of situations. After all, aren't most synths just mini standalone chips on PCBs anyway?

    Something I’m guessing at, because he sort of dropped a few hints, but with all the modular gear, he must be using a device that can backup control voltage performances, so a recorder that has the ability to record DC signals. I haven’t really looked into this because I don’t have lasers or vusual performance gear, but I understand that the Eurorack gear can really lend itself well to orchestrating laser light shows. With those DC control voltages, It’s very compatible.

      All 64 audio tracks are fed into TD's two Behringer X32 Rack recorders (Left and Right of Thorsten's modular), so any sound produced always gets recorded (pre-fade - which allows for remixing later), the live mix can be controlled directly from Thorsten's iPad mixer or from whatever equipment he is using: eg for the Euro-rack the Vermona outputs which control each line. TD doesn't use lasers (at least within the last few years) they used BriTeq movable spots (and other lights such as SolarWash 37 LED). On stage for this tour, they used 14-16 RGB wireless, LED light columns plus whatever the house has. TD have two guys to do the visuals (video and lighting) - with the lights sequenced/improvised and controlled by a touch screen as well as Hog MiniWing 4 and Nano Hog 4 controllers).
