Depending on how it's programmed, I'm okay with engineered crackles and pops, as long as they aren't overkill or happening too often. Now the real heresy is fake engine noise pumped in through the speakers. If I wanted to feel like I'm playing Forza I'd fire up the Xbox.

they dont funnel through the speakers fortunately. there is a sound tube that funnels sound from the intake through the firewall, but fortunately a very easy fix
I love the pops and crackles in the Camaro. They are mostly limited to the lower gears if you stick in them longer than the automatic in Drive will.
How about the crackles and pops as are ONLY heard in the cabin, the neighbors don't wanna hear that shitty sound.

That’s what I love about GM traction control and stability control. When they’re off, they’re off. It’s not, “Ok, I’ll let you have a bit of fun, but I’ll still keep you in line”. No! It’s as how Mr. Regular stated. “Best of luck, kid” sums it up nicely.
Maybe gm’s cars that are meant to go fast but in their trucks you turn it off and it’s not really off🥲

Every modern GM i have driven, turning off traction control does just that. Holding down the TC button for several seconds disables ASM, or VDC, or whateverthehell they call it, and allows you to have all the funs.

@@lamma109 the M2 has more usable interior space thanks to the higher greenhouse . I had a 5th gen camaro, a huge car by it's exterior dimensions, I couldn't get the sunroof because my hair was brushing the headliner even with the seat all the way down. I'm 5'11" so I'm not a giant by any means.
@@FACTOTUM_55 ive been in a 5th gen and 6th gen im 6ft and i was fine with or without a moonroof. The m2s interior is more usable, but it also feels like it has a higher center of gravity if you drive both back to back

I sat in a newer camaro recently and observed that the window slits are so narrow, if you had to make an escape thru the window because of a water incident (ala mythbusters), you'd better be a runway model or that thing will become a coffin for your fat ass.

I average damn near 20 in my 2011 SS with the 6 speed. I think that's pretty decent. It's technically the most fuel efficient vehicle I own, haha!

Fuel dumping on decel helps to cool the cats. Going lean makes them hot. The computer heat cycles them for long life. The LT1 is a clean burning beast, so removing the cats and tuning it lean on 93 will still pass smog

Not to mention that these come with 4 cats stock and they are terribly restrictive. The decel pops and crackles won't do much to damage them.
How exactly does dumping raw fuel on a hot cat cool them down? Misfires typically damage cats because they allow unburned fuel to enter the cat and overheat it.

Visibility isn’t nearly as bad as you describe. Have had my SS for 18 months and have almost no issues, especially out front. Love the bulging hood. Car is a civilized beast as far as I’m concerned.

There's not much they can do about it. Cars are basically shaped by legislation at this point, so they have been making the front and rear ends extremely complex to distract from the fact that they all have the same proportions.

The popping on decel is due to DFCO "Deceleration fuel cut off" feature in virtually all modern cars. It causes very lean conditions on decel which causes those crackles. Therefore there is no wear on the cats due to them, and it isn't "fake" at all. You just hear it because of the manual transmission (no torque converter to let revs drop immediately on decel) and the very loud stock exhaust (compared to the average car). The older 5th gen Camaros did this as well, and heck, if you throw a loud exhaust on most any car made after say year 2000 you'll hear similar sounds. My 2013 Camaro (LS3 gen 4 LS motor) crackles about as much as the newer ones. Even my 05 silverado (with louder than stock exhaust) does the same thing.
Personally I think visibility is HUGE on driving quality of life

I’ve valet parked a number of these at my job. The visibility really is the worst of any other modern cars. It feels like the car doesn’t want you to see out of it. Doesn’t help that a lot of owners put deep tint so seeing is even harder

The 2020 Camaro 1SS 1LE is the pinnacle of the breed, IMO. You get all the snarling, track-gobbling performance you could reasonably ask for, and thanks to the mag-ride it's sedate and comfortable enough to drive every day. The ZL1 is IMO too much power for this car, and the ZL1 1LE is way too hard-edged to be an everyday driver. That car is pretty much just a track weapon.
Yes. But that ZL1 1LE is a street legal superhero. You may not like to drive it in traffic, but the fact that you don't have to tow it is great. He said the SS is a monster, and it legit is, but the ZL1 2LE comes in the room and everybody knows who the monster is.
Honestly, the V8 LT sounds like the one to really have. Probably has some sidewall on the tires, maybe 18". It still makes big power, you're still generally the badass at the traffic light, but less punishing to drive.
Savage geese actually eluded to this. The zl1 1le is too much car to even drive to any sort of anger on the road and it'll beat you up at any time other than beat on it. I feel the ss 1le is the people's hero car. The Pp2 mustang gt wishes it could be like this

The Camaro needs an update. It's looked pretty much the same since 2010. And yeah I know they changed it a little in 2015 but not enough. GM won't do it, though. If it's not a compact crossover that they'll sell 20 million of per day, they don't care. "Just cancel it. It's easier." -Some GM Exec whose favorite show is Young Sheldon
They changed it completely in 2016, you just can't tell.
The popping and crackling doesn't hurt the cats. It's been researched. In addition I removed my cats just recently and after 45k miles of tuned track days and lots of aggressive driving with more pops and crackling than stock. My cats looked perfect.

I just got a 22ss 1le. This is the most impractical car ever as a daily. It eats the tires super fast, it gets horrible gas mileage, it’s really a 2 passenger car but I love it and would not change it for anything else.
i got my 3rd Mustang now, it was a close call picking a Camaro, mostly decided by luggage capabilities, i like the outside more than the Mustang. i hope it sells a lot so it stays around.

It was worth giving up any comfort to relish the car that was driven “like it was stolen.”
When the cats go, (unless things have changed in like 3 years), hollow them out, get a wideband, and wield a 2nd bung on top of the original to pull the censor out of the exhaust flow.
I rented a 4-banger turbo Camaro for a trip a couple years ago, and I can confirm: visibility is practically nonexistent.
The *Burble* part of this video reminds me of an interview with an Audi Racing engineer on how quiet the R18 was "Sound is wasted power"
The Camaro was awesome but now the Mustang has an updated engine and transmission while having a good facelift.
The Camaro has different trims, same power plant, they got rid of the 8-speed-auto for the 10-speed paired with Ford. They did a bad facelift and had to fix it.
With the C8 being mid engined I think the Camaro 7th gen will be awesome since now it doesn't have to worry about stepping on Corvette toes.

The noise you heard was the fact that the carb kept inserting fuel even on decel. Carb saw vacuum, carb drew fuel. You can turn off decel fuel cutoff and they’ll all do that pop and crackle. That’s how crackle tunes work. You can see this in a wideband in any modern car. The AFR goes 20:1 on decel normally. It’s not “injecting during exhaust events” it’s just not turning off the injector. It’s not really harder than normal running on the catalytic converter except that it’s having to burn off fuel it normally wouldn’t in decel.

Also, the intentional exhaust burble is kinda cringey but you have to admit its pretty amazing they can do that and STILL pass emissions. Emissions tech has gotten so good now.

Yeah. If you’re paying that much for an old Camaro it had better be trailered everywhere and only taken on Sunday drives in the summer.
And forget big blocks. Plowing understeer, horrible braking, and no way to put the power down unless you’re running drag slicks on a prepped track.. even with a three speed slush box converting the power that isn’t turned into noise into heat.

The high bonnet isn't for styling. It's for safety standards. Cars all have snub noses so you roll onto the hood when somebody hits you, rather than it snapping your knees and your head smacking the windscreen.

Great review with alot of truth about those cats getting destroyed long term with that "crackling exhaust". Love that Rally Green color and how typical of GM to make this just a one-year only color? I just don't get how design can evolve to where my old 1974 Camaro Type LT had more foot room in the back compared to these later Camaro's. I actually was able to fit my moped back there as I moved in a change of duty stations while in the service, circa late 70's. All in all, the world is good when we still have a Camaro, Challenger and Mustang for sale in our dealership showrooms. Enjoy this era while we can....
I once got to sit in a previous-gen Camaro at an auto show a few years ago and it really is astounding how terrible the forward visibility is in that car. I swear it almost felt like you were in a tank cockpit peering out through the little slat they give you to see forward
