if you're casing a lot , then your tires should have a lot of casing ?

As for "one aggressive tire to rule them all", yes there are two in fact, one has been around since 2017 and is probably the most common front tire you'll see on rowdy trail and enduro bikes, the Maxxis Assegai. The other is the new kid on the block, the insanely good Conti Kryptotal.
I went from small thread (Ikon, Fast Tak) to big block (Eliminator), it is a quick rolling enduro/trail tire and it made the descents more enjoyable. I am rather slower up the hill than risking my life down the hill.

1:23 Fastest, shallowest XC tire on one end, heavy-weight, ultra-soft, downhill tire on the other end... Sounds like the Dissector/Rekon combo I run on my trail bike!

The only good thing about being old and slow is it doesn't matter that much what tire I run. Never gonna overpower it!
I went from always running Maxxis Minion DHF front & DHR rear, idealy double down casing but also exo if i couldnt afford DD. To running Goodyear Newton MTF & MTR DH casing, & ill never bother with Minions again.. The Goodyear Newtons are far superior in every way. Harder wearing, better grip, look better, better mud clearing, most importantly no dead spot between the centre & edge knobs, & with even tubes can run pressures as low as 18 psi while still having better pinchflat resistance than even the double casing Minions at 25 psi.. Also the tire widths are actually accurate, the 2.5s are actually 2.5s, unlike the Minion DHF which is closer to 2.4. Just simply no comparison.. I would probably run Assegai & Disector if i couldnt find Newtons, or if they were on special. But i'd probably more likely try other Tires like Schwalbe Magic Mary or Kenda Hellcat as mentioned here. Even American Classic has their own gravity focused tires for about half the price which look very similar to the Goodyear Newtons. Based on my own experience with American Classics on my gravel bike, i dont see why their gravity tires wouldnt be equally as good for the price.. When it comes to Maxxis, & especially Minions, i simply see them as Nike or Adidas. Just because theyre the industry standard & everyone knows them, doesnt always mean theyre the best or the best value.. Actually it generally means the opposite..

I’ve always gone light on tires and wheels. I ride a 160/150 travel bike at a fairly high level with Maxxis Recon Race 2.6” tires. I haven’t had any problems with that.

Unless you’re racing xc at a high level just get some heavy duty tires. If you feel like they’re slowing you down try not eating half a pizza and 6 beers after every 10 mile trail ride.
Or make them 25 mile rides and keep your pizza and beer 🤙
Nhaaa pure xc tires are so much fun they are so quick and the lack of grip give the feeling of always being on the edge wich is where the fun is at

In Valencia, Spain, we have very dry and hard terrain, often quite loose, with many paths covered in stones and their respective playful little offspring scattered everywhere, making for rather irregular and challenging rides. What kind of tire would you recommend for this type of terrain? Thanks!

Love the grip and rolling characteristics. But Schwalbe has to have the worst quality control of the big brands. I have never had a Mary that either didnt hade a wobble or didn’t have a sidewall that got cracks within 40km
It all depends on the dirt... I ride loose over hard 90% of the time. Kenda booster is better than any tire on that dirt

Your description of what siping is for is incorrect.
It may be that I didn't understand your paper/ tread analogy, but I believe your explanation of stiffness around timeline 8:37 is completely counter intuitive, and , incorrect. The sipes on the center knobs being perpendicular to travel, simply give another surface for grip in braking and hard acceleration. They , in fact don't make the knob stiffer in the forward / rearward acceleration, but more compliant. This increases grip. The same is true of the side lugs. The parallel sipes give another surface to resist slipping out of the turn, but do nothing to stiffen the lateral force. The twisting/deflecting nature of the tread is controlled by the compound (s) used in them, it being softer (stickier) or harder (more durable).
How can you explain that a maxxis rekon max terra compound grips more than a minion DHF double compound only? Speaking as a front tire
