  • We all have experienced pain and sadness. It might come through the loss of a friend, a traumatic experience as a child, or even our own poor choices. If left untreated, the pain can grow into a lifetime of grief or regret. The good news is there is hope. Based on his book, 7 Ways to Choose Healing, Stephen Arterburn offers practical tops for how we can walk through a process of healing successfully. Those tips include connecting with others, learning to take risks again, and forgiving those who have hurt us.

    Wow this one podcast is destroying so many lies and strongholds that the enemy has used to hold me back from healing. Thank you and praise the Lord

    Such an important point: grieving before forgiveness. It prevents superficial forgiveness.

      Boy do I know about church hurt that's the worst kind of hurt because you don't expect to be heard it in the church and sometimes it's the preacher and and I just think that I'm not talking about your situation because I don't know about yours but I can just only speak for mine I think we forget just because they are preacher teacher that we forget that they're just as human at the end of the day as we are and that they have more tax on them or just as much as we do and our daily life and and I think they have an extra bullseye because if they go left then they can take a lot of people to get hurt by their actions so it's it's Satanist I believe it's after them a little bit more then then the rest because of the calling on their life and he's trying to make a mockery like yeah you supposed to be so safe but look what you did you know stuff like that but and once you've been hurt by church people you'll never want to go back because sometimes the world don't even treat you that bad and the world is a lot more honest about the situation and there's no self-righteousness with it like if they doing something that they know is wrong they be like yeah I did it and you know don't judge me where the church people I'm not going to judge them but sometimes they don't mean to do it in their struggling to overcome a situation but yet they're in a position at the church

      I wonder why Focus never talks about Celebrate Recovery. After years in secular 12 step recovery, the real healing happened and is happening in Celebrate Recovery because it points to Christ as our healer and The Word as the source of Truth.

    Along with allowing ourselves to grieve our childhood losses, we can also heal by learning to meet the needs of our child parts. When we get our needs met, then it’s easier to forgive those who did not provide what we needed.

    Would appreciate hearing more about what to do in order to protect that letting go, forgiving process, as it often takes time. Particularly in how we address the relationships with the person/people who have caused the trauma.
    Some Christians don’t fully understand the malevolence of others.
    I have been encouraged (in the name of love, forgiveness, acceptance etc) to keep having relationships with toxic family members. Despite the fact I am still being harmed by on going sinful behaviours, hard hearts & trust that has been destroyed as a result.
    For a time it made me feel guilty, like I wasn’t a matured or gracious enough Christian.
    However for my own emotional well being & agency I have chosen to forgive, but also put in boundaries ( & not have certain relationships) because the desire to have counselling & proper reconciliation hasn’t been reciprocal.

    It can "feel" so painful to initially bring up this truth inside us, yet its so true how moving into the emotion attached to the experience is so incredibly freeing. I"m glad you were / are inspired to do more! My Passion has definitely grown from the pain. Thank you so much.

    Sometimes it's not about the spouse that was left, it's about the one who left being a broken person, its who and where "they" are and your collateral damage or they simply do not have the capacity for the spouse left behind.

    I think the church has pressured christians to forgive but I think the churches need to teach people how to treat others and come back to teaching the Ten Commandments. The Bible also says don’t cast your pearls before swine. Sometimes you have to move away because some people will destroy you.

    There’s a lot of counselors out there, not all of them are worth the time and money for various reasons. Counselors aren’t our savior. If you have someone who truly helps you to heal great but talking like it’s relatively easy to even find that at all is naive

    • @focusonthefamily
      @focusonthefamily  3 года назад +5

      Greetings Colleen. While counselors are not our Savior, the Savior definitely can and does work through them in our lives, as well as others! Whether it's a good friend who listens well, or a professional counselor, we all need a good ear every once in awhile. We have some amazing Christian Counselors as part of our Christian Counseling Network. Please call us at 1-800-A-FAMILY Monday - Friday, 8 am to 8 pm MST, to find one in your area. God's rich blessings be upon you.

    Nobody talks about what if the person is still around still part of your extended family and not only have they abused you they have abused your family and still have the opportunity to do so and then people are telling you you forgive them you just make sure you fully forgiven them but they don't go away you must stay away from him but they're in your extended family where they can abuse your children or their friends or other people in the family, I think you can work on forgiving them and do what you're saying if they go away but what if they are still in your extended family what if they still have the opportunity to do and cause the trauma that they previously did.
