I always imagined that each square was a huge area and the helicopter had to stop for repairs/refuelling etc but couldn’t because they would be ambushed by the enemy
Reminds me of panzer tactics, a ww2 turn base strategy game on the DS and air units can fly over allied and enemy units. They also had to be on top of enemy units to attack. You also had to switch to see ground and air units on the same tile. Weather also affected air units and can only attack when it was clear. The game was interesting with different mechanics but nowhere near as fun as the 4 advance wars games.
Every unit carries signal jammers that prevents enemies from receiving orders and vice versa. OR every unit carries anti-air mortars that can only shoot straight up.

No real justification, but we can just say “in a real battle, being seen by the enemy over head would mean they have a chance to shoot you down” so there’s that.

@@clownplayer7265 I just imagine the pipe is covered in AA so if an aircraft flies over it gets shot but ammo can fly over because it’s too fast

I always thought of it in the way that the pilot wouldn't want to fly over enemy territory because they don't know if it's an infantry or an anti air
It'd be cool to load up infantry and have them attack like an off brand helicopter
