that blue is hovering between lavender and ultramarine. both are my favorite color. such fresh view to see a matte finish on blue. Yellow fin and orange vent for accent color is top notch for the complementary
MGSD Hands and attachment points on the weapons should be standardized for all new kits. They're so nice. I've never had a more study hold on a weapon than I have with these MGSD kits.
Way, way cooler than the Freedom! I'm sold on this kit. At first the blue color scheme was kinda shocking but as I watched on it certainly did grow on me. Nice paint job
As much as I love a 1/100 MG, I’m really loving the MGSDs. Can’t wait to see what they announce next, would love to see the RX-78 personally as I’m very boring. Excellent paint job, really love that blue and red contrast. All fits so nicely together despite being very unique. Awesome work!
USA Gundam Store just shipped my copy. I can't wait. I love the look of this series. I really hope they continue making more MGSD. Not sure what I would like to see next. Probably Exia. In fact, ALWAYS EXIA! I would also settle for the Wing Zero or Wing Zero Custom.
Nice color pallette! A word of advice from a very small artist about color theory. Try to lower the saturation of your pallette until they all turn gray, and each color choices should have a range of tonal values, making the darker or lighter part as the focal point of the character. For comparison, the original colors of Barbatos has a darker tonal value of blue in his chest armor and surrounded by lighter color. Avoid colors with the same tonal value as it will look flat no matter how vibrant or toned down your colors.
I think it looks great! I definitely like the use of brown for both this and the normal MG. I think I'll be painting the HG Barbatos using some browns for a desert custom. Can it still move around? I was curious how far the kit could look down if at all. I may have just missed that part of the review. Wishing you and your family the best during the holiday season! Take care, and thanks for sharing this with us!
3:38 ok so it's not the whole manual in color, it just shows the runners in color, which seems a bit pointless lol. However, it also has the decal guide at the end in color, which is much more useful.
love the blue and orange scheme. The tan is okay on the body, but it's a bit weird on the head. I can't help but get the impression on an exposed brain whenever the back or top of the head is shown.
I'll probably never get mine, Pre ordered it day one on HLJ just for it to be "backordered" instantly on release, same with my MGSD Freedom, never got that either
@zakuaurelius cool color scheme! A couple of questions for you: first, how much and where did you panel line on this kit? Did you have to do much extra scribing? And lastly, did you use water slides or just the in-box decals?
Hi! So I did not do any extra scribing- all the details you see are a part of the stock kit directly out of the box. I did use some waterslides for this as the only included markings are sticker decals. For the panel lining I used brown on the frame and orange parts, then a purple-gray on the blue armor
Why not water decals. Also i was thinking are there any parts made by any company which can extend the length of neck and arms or thighs making customs is hard for me as no supplies here but are there any parts that can extend the length of neck to make the model seem taller
Nice color scheme. Tan frame looks really nice. Maybe I should try it out some time in a future. I love how the subtle weathering turned out. Although, you've missed an opportunity to go for Titans color scheme and to set a good example for UC vs AU :-)
Airbrush and spray booth, yes! It was a relatively quick build but took a little longer due to the amount of details both in the frame and the armor, and having to keep the clear parts out til the very end also complicates the process slightly
Do the shoulders fit on the regular mg bard? I'm sorry but I'm only getting this kit to gut some parts to use on my second regular mg barbatos. There are many details that look really great on this like the hands and shoulder armor. I generally really don't like SD kits because I personally think the deformed feature just looks stupid so I'm perfectly okay with using this for parts.
It riles me upset that they hyped us all up about swapping parts between 1/100/FM IBO gundams, but when the MG Barbatos came out, you're stuck with the kit that you assemble. The shoulder armor fits together around the shoulder frame part and fiddling around is difficult and likely to damage or break the plastic, and same goes for the feet. Now that we have the MGSD, and the model is super easy to take apart and makes is swap-friendly, unlike the MG. I mean, why didn't they design the MG that way too?
I actually did something I don’t think I’ve ever really done before in this case I did it with a toothpick and lacquer paint! Very dangerous as it’s impossible to clean up any mistakes without ruining the part! 😬
Hey I’m really into master grade kits, and want to try painting, but don’t want to ruin one of my mg’s. Do you think mg sd kits be a good way to start? I’ve thought about doing some high grades to practice, but I just don’t enjoy 144 scale.
This kit comes with it's own set of challenges when it comes to painting and while it did require very little prep work (seam line removal, etc) it's not exactly one I would recommend for an absolute beginner. I would definitely try maybe an Entry Grade or an HG
@ZakuAurelius Dang! Well, I hope that mgsd continues. It would be awesome to get a Sengoku Astray. I feel it is an underappreciated mech. I think it's the best looking of the Astray variants.
Love the custom paint job, but I will be honest, I don't get the appeal of this model line. This isn't a MG, it's closer to a RG in terms of height but it isn't that either. I just don't understand the "need" for the MGSD.
Loving MGSD so much. Designer Toy proportions and they can get so much extra detail into the heads. Hope we get Wing Zero Next.
Wing zero would be cool
Im hoping for exia
MGSD Wing Zero just got announced.
Someone was right
Are you psychic or something?

The yellow and blue give me a cloud from ff7 feel. You did a great job on this one. The kit itself looks like a fun build
OH HELL YEAH I LOVE THAT COLOR
Thank you!
You did customize it!! That's awesome!
A bit, yes! Thanks!
Just finished watching this and im sold on the kit and already went and bought it! Thanks for the detailed review
Glad it was helpful!
Impressive build, the Gundam Barbatos looks fantastic! 👏🤖
Thank you!
Way, way cooler than the Freedom! I'm sold on this kit.
At first the blue color scheme was kinda shocking but as I watched on it certainly did grow on me. Nice paint job
Thank you!
The paint and panel lining really stands out, looks great

Thanks so much!
Ok, that custom build looks awesome! Really reminds me of the gundam mk 3. Colors
Wasn't totally sold on this kit at first but after seeing some reviews I really wanna grab a copy. Looks super cool
Very nice work zaku. The colors are very fitting
A mini standing pilot from MG Barbs would be neat to display. 😁😁
Really love the custom colors
Very cool, Zach!!!
damn!!! turned out AMAZING!!!! congrats zak!!!
Another amazing build. Thanks for the content man.
I wish one of the bigger guys like you would do an updated version of your airbrush process.
I will be working on that soon!
@@ZakuAurelius nice! It would be Kool, cause I think I've got the idea but I'm messing up somehow, so the steps would really help me to improve!
Great build Zach
Thanks!
Great custom paint job!!!

This line continues to impress!
Awesome custom colors!
Bro you killed it!!❤
I just bought it.
I just build it.
Now I got hook to MGSD and I'm search for the Freedon right now. Gotta get them all while this line is still new.
I’m going to kinda paint my MG Barbatos like this I think. Thanks for the inspiration.
Go for it!
Super clean man!
This is a very good kit, thanks for the video Zack.
i love the color 👌🏻

Yeah it can still move but I won't move it. Like I said about the tight tolerances and danger of chipping the paint - I don't want that!
3:38 ok so it's not the whole manual in color, it just shows the runners in color, which seems a bit pointless lol. However, it also has the decal guide at the end in color, which is much more useful.
I’m stoked for anyone who’s into these, I just can’t get excited about em.
amz!!
i just realized that i like mgsd's proportions because it reminds me of digimon
love the blue and orange scheme. The tan is okay on the body, but it's a bit weird on the head. I can't help but get the impression on an exposed brain whenever the back or top of the head is shown.
Hopefully they take this tech and apply it to a PG barbatos or, even better, an RG line of IBO. I would love an RG lupus and Gusion.
because how bestial the Barbatos looks even in SD proportions it still looks right and menacing.
I really love it, it’s cool looking. I am also interested in the weapons kit. Which was it?
I don't recall the exact name but it's from a Kotobukiya M.S.G. option swords set.
Well, I know what a third of next years GBWC builds are gonna be.
I'll probably never get mine, Pre ordered it day one on HLJ just for it to be "backordered" instantly on release, same with my MGSD Freedom, never got that either

looks so cool ! How long did this build/painting take and did you use a paint booth or rattle cans?
Airbrush and spray booth, yes! It was a relatively quick build but took a little longer due to the amount of details both in the frame and the armor, and having to keep the clear parts out til the very end also complicates the process slightly
I am curious about if the pilot of ZOID be fitted into MGSD barbatos gundam cockpit?
What do you think?
Do the shoulders fit on the regular mg bard? I'm sorry but I'm only getting this kit to gut some parts to use on my second regular mg barbatos. I'd love to see a bit of a tutorial on that chipping of yours
I actually did something I don’t think I’ve ever really done before in this case I did it with a toothpick and lacquer paint! Very dangerous as it’s impossible to clean up any mistakes without ruining the part! 😬
@@ZakuAurelius ahh. Yeah I was hoping for a less high risk, high pay kind of technique. Last time I tried chipping I regretted it a lot
Zaku where did you get that sword in your painted build??!!!!!!!
From what I could google it looks like the M.S.G Weapon Unit 33.
Can the weapon be used with other HGs?

Colors are added in the video description! Thanks
What brand is that Hazel Gundam in the display case?
It’s a custom build by Ryan Lau!

Bandai teasing us again with IBO Gundam frames and will end up doing nothing with it
Did you have any issues with the thumbs being too loose?
Nope!
@@ZakuAurelius damn... mine came loose af... tried double coating heavy on the joints to fix it, but they are super loose. Thanks for the info Zack.
What blue color did you use? Brand and color code please.
Oh I was gonna add that in the video description! I'll add it now!
What kind of blue did you use?
Paints I used are in the video description! 👍
What was that sword call? I like that buster sword type on him 😂
It's from a Kotobukiya MSG weapon set.
@@ZakuAurelius thank you so much for the info! Great custom paint Zak!
Where'd the decals come from?
They are SIMP decals but just copied from HiQ decals basically
Zaaakieeeeeee, where's Marcosiaaaaaaas?
3900y is roughly 27usd. Id love to actually find this kit for $27
you'd have to go to Japan... lol
Barba-tossed
HOW DO I JOIN THIS COMPETITION, I AM SO CONFUSED?????
The recolor challenge? Check out the post on USAGS social media and more info on the USAGS blog page. It's just about recoloring the line art
Noiceeee
Barbatos, SRW version
This is Gundam Barbatos Real Colors lol

True there's no "need" but the kits are a lot of fun and provide something uniique.
Mildly upset that it is actually better than the MG barbie lmao
First!
This isn't what I wanted at all Bandai. If we got more MG kits I wouldn't care or maybe I'd give this a try. We don't.
This is exactly what I wanted lol I love everything about this
