Building wealth from nothing involves consistent saving, disciplined spending, and strategic investments. Begin by creating a budget to track expenses and identify areas for savings. Prioritize paying off high-interest debt and establishing an emergency fund. As you build a foundation, start investing in low-cost options like index funds, and focus on continuous learning and improving your skills for better income opportunities.

My wife and I are thinking of moving to Ireland from US. Someone told us that taxes are high in Ireland. But by watching this video and getting an understanding of Ireland taxation. I pay more in the US. Thanks for the video.
Hi Walter, There are no videos on Rct, I've recently change to rct , seem to be some benefits so I'm told.. Was wondering if you could do a video. Much thanks and keep post video lad
Thanks alot Brian for the video. It would be great if you had an excel worksheet that you could share with formulas already in place, that could show you how much you should be paying for the different taxes gicen your salary.
Could you do an update on this Walter? Very helpful video. We bring international (non-EU) staff in for the hospitality industry and things are as clear as mud for them 😅
So, years ago, PRSI was supposed to pay for dole and OAP etc. Now an extra Social Security/Social Insurance/National Insurance charge called USC has been added. So, now we pay two separate types of Social Security/Insurance payments.... Sounds like a rip-off...
I am glad to have come across this video. Preety insightful and detailed👍😎.. Being new in the country a lot of these fields highlighted make sense now. Please do keep us informed on the ways we can keep our deductions at bare minimum. Since you mentioned of the pension scheme, similar to it what else can one declare or claim while filing IT returns to keep our taxable income low. Such as health insurance or long term investments.
Hi Walter, I wanted to ask you what to do in the situation of underpayment. In previous years, when I requested a tax return, I'm about to receive some tax returns, but now I'm unable to receive anything because I have this underpayment. Can you please advise what to do? Thanks a mill.
Hi. Super helpful! Thanks a million. I live abroad by I am hired by an Irish employer and I am not an Irish tax resident. Is it possible to stop paying all of these Irish taxes? I mean USC, PAYE, Employee PRSI and of course even the pension?
Hi, thanks for the great video ! I was a non resident (expat who stayed in Ireland less than 183 days) and so read I am entitled to a full tax refund: so if I understand well, i should receive my USC +PAYE taxes back right?
Hi, may I ask if tax refund from my emergency fund as well arears are added to my annual pay and will it be resulted to higher tax at the end of the year? What's the fiscal year in IE by the way?thanks a lot, it's a helpful video
Depending on your tax base ( week one or cumulative ) and your assessment options , single or married you will have money refunded on the next pay date or at the end of the year. if you are not clear on this log on your myAccount.ie , My enquires and ask. jan 1 to end of dec . bonus tip , be sure to ask for your flat rate expenses. eg shop assistants get 121 a year and it can be back dated 4 years .
Hi Walter Thanks for video. I have a question for you. My wife informed the system that we were married and made a tax adjustment in her own way, so that less tax would be deducted. but he must have done it wrong because now the total salary payment seems to be zero. We wrote this to the system, but it is still under investigation and my wife still does not receive a salary. do you know how to set this up? what should we do?
Hi Mehmet, I would try and call them about it Usually you have the option of equally splitting your tax credits. They probably just need to make a quick change
Anyone else getting rinsed for having a second job whilst still earning well under the 36k threshold? Combined income with two jobs is under 25k a year. Just started second job and got taxed almost 50% on two days work! Any tips?
Heya, thanks for the video. One question pleas, do you have an idea about the time frame we can start our tax back process via revenue, since it has been my first year in Ireland! Thanks in advance.
@@walterdunphy294 Please am really a novice when it comes to paying if taxes . The video has done alot of good . Thanks , however two questions. 1.. does overtime get taxed ? 2. The tax paid to government , is it refunded at any time ?
Yeah it would be the exact same rates that apply. Its useful then at the end of the year to check overall if you have under or over paid any of those tax types
I am not sure what you mean exactly , you can contact revenue ( myAccount.ie : My Enquires ) and request a review. Inform them of your employment and provide your status ( single married ) . be sure to request any / all relevant credits ( flat rate) , Note you can request up to 4 years. I think you may be talking about being placed on emergency tax, if you have not given the information needed to process your taxes , (PPSN, Date of birth, address etc ) Revenue will tax you at the highest rates to ensure they do not lose money. Once you have provided this information ( myAccount.ie) you will be given a tax credit and USC certificate . this will state what you will be charged (cut off points) and at what rates. Any over payments of tax will be refunded ( cumulative ) on the next pay date or at the end of the tax year ( week one/ non cumulative)
I think the employer prsi income threshold is now €410 rather than €398 to allow for minimum wage increases. Overall, a useful video- thanks for taking the time to prepare it.
@irishdepartmentofagriculture Just spoiled brats that don't want to work. The pay in Ireland is so bad I feel bad for the kids that are working. I went from 300 thousand a year in California to less than 60 thousand a year doing the same exact job for the same company. And Sanfrancisco only has a 25% higher cost of living than dublin ireland.

Wow this information is very useful as I was stressing so much about taxes in Ireland, as I am interested to work there.
Nice one Walter - This vid should be used to teach kids in secondary school. Cheers
Good explaination, especially the PRSI rate we have to pay as employers, on top of the salaries.
Thank you so much pal. I’ve just taken a job across the border with the same company. Couldn’t get my head around it all but this has sorted me!
Good man Walter you always pop up at the right time 👍
Hi Walter, just want to say cheers for all the info that you’ve put out, the table lamp is the business 👍

Sir I have studied UK taxation, I have a question is there any difference btween UK nd Irish taxation?
The systems are similar but there are big differences in rates and around investing taxes and things like that
So around 26% for that threshold awesome
I don't understand what the balance is all about....
When I mention tax on the balance, I mean that you pay that tax rate on any income over a certain amount
