    What a great 442! The interior is just fantastic. I've always thought Olds' interiors of this era were the best of GMs, but with Mr. Pilney's blue one, it truly separates his from all the others. The interior of the engine bay with that big ol' 455 staring back at us looks great as well. Thanks, Lou!

    An outstanding example of an Olds 442 W 30. I remember one of these pulling up to me on Telegraph road in Dearborn, Michigan on Dreamcruise weekend. I turned my head to check for traffic for a left turn and when I looked back, the W30 had already made the turn and had rocketed a 1/4 mile down the road. Those hood locks weren't just for show!

    A very interesting car, Lou! White with blue stripes and accents. I loved those mid-sized GM cars of that era - they obviously shared many underneath sheet metal panels but each division did such a great job changing the exterior designs that it was not like the cookie cutter look of the GM A-bodies from the 1980's that shared almost everything on the outside except for front and rear ends and interiors. The Cutlass was a beautiful car in this generation and had such a presence.
    Leave it to Lou to bring us such a wide range of vehicles and eras to enjoy. You are so appreciated here in Virginia! Keep up the great work!

    Goodday Lou,
    As Australia's number 1 Oldsmobile Fan this 442 W30 is faultless it just blew my mind.
    Being of Greek decent the W30 has that Greek Flag colour about it, even the interior is of high quality.
    The best taillights in 1970 in my opinion the whole Oldsmobile just oozed class.
    " You can put the baby to sleep with that idle " gets me everytime with a smile & chuckle.

    But how beautiful this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 looked with that Porcelain White and the light blue bands and lines of the hood vents and sides of the body! I also liked that slender spoiler and how the rear vertical turn signals are recessed in the large chrome bumper in one piece (without forgetting that soft blue tinted tone that the windshields and windows have). The interior is not far behind either, with those elegant seats upholstered in blue and its instrument panel adorned with wood and chrome lines (special mention for the automatic gear lever with manual option). A magnificently restored engine compartment and its shiny 455 V8 standing out in the middle. Congratulations to Mr. Pilney on this amazing restored gem! Best regards, Lou!

    What a classic! W30 too. I have always told people that if I ever win any big money in the Powerball my first search would be for either the lead '70 442 convertible that paced the start of the '70 Indy 500. I'm told it still exists. There is one in the IMS speedway museum but there should have been a backup pace car identical to the primary. I don't know how many 500 Festival Pace cars were built. Festival cutlass'' usually go to dealers after the race was over. There is a really cool story about the original one that got lost and was found by accent and restored to its former glory. For the race start and on track it was driving by retired Indy winner Roger Ward. In 1971 it was driven by a Dodge dealer who had received all the Barracuda's they used for the 1971 Indy 500. I won't go into it here, but its easily to find at the Hemmings News site. That 1971 Plymouth Barracuda ... oh boy... what a story.

    The Olds 442 is one of GM's best. Let's be honest. A lot of the muscle cars of that era were kind of tinny. But the Olds 442 Cutlass's were really solid and with the 455, they would run like a scalded dog!!

    Love Oldsmobiles and have had a few including a 1970 442 W30 4 speed car. Did not have the wing or custom diff cover however. Mine was red with white stripes but I would have preferred the white. Your dual gate shifter was also called the "His and Hers" shifter. Very nice car and I'm sure you're proud of it. Wish I still had mine. 😞

    Hey big bro Lou!! OH MAN! KO 😵😵time for ol' JV Johnny, big brother lol 🤣🤪. What an EPIC OLDS 442. With a lopey, wolfie exhaust that could put a baby to sleep? How about a middle aged, lightweight, JV baseball jock😜? That beautiful porcelain white 100% matches my tubesocked stocking calves and feet, now dangling out the back window, with me 100% knocked out and dreaming about chicks in the back seat. (as usual). (I hope Andy wouldn't mind my sneakers dangling from the rear view mirror as added affect lol 😂). Andy's pristine and gorgeous 442 makes a car guy weak in the knees, no doubt. All the detailing, Lou! My God, she is a gorgeous beast, dripping with character and charm. Makes me crazy! But in a good way lol 😆. Thanks for all the car guy inspiration, big brother! JV Johnny ⚾⚾

    That is one supreme street machine! I love all of the detail put in when they restored it and had one question that you may have asked. The inner fenders came from the factory red like that? Or just 442 W30 trim? Just curious and found that interesting. 68-72 GM A Body cars were my first true loves and although I had a few of them, this is one that didn’t.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi benzlick, High praise. The inner fenders were red from the factory and I believe what came on the W30 trim, but might have been the 442 too. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou

    • @Andyp3446
      @Andyp3446 7 месяцев назад +1

      Red inner fenders were only used on the w30 cars from 1967 to mid 1971. When supplies of the red ones ran out in 71 they used black fender liners on the remainder of the 71 w30 cars.

    Although there was a picture of the W27 rear shown it would have been great to see it on the video if possible. I’ve seen ones with the optional cover only but to see the super rare entire aluminum center section also would have been great. Wanted to know if the axle tubes were steel since due to steel/aluminum together causes galvanized corrosion what was used to insulate the 2 of them. Couldn’t weld the tubes to the center section

    • @Andyp3446
      @Andyp3446 7 месяцев назад

      They are plug welded to the steel axle tubes. There is a hole in the aluminum center section section on the side where the plug weld goes. Exactly like they weld the steel tubes to the iron center sections.

    Is the hood fiberglass? If so, would the hood hinges be modified for a lighter rate?

      The factory hoods of that year were fiberglass with a steel inner structure. The fiberglass was bonded to the steel structure. The hinges and springs were the same ones as the normal steel hoods.

    442. 4 barrel carb, 4 speed trans, dual exhaust. but this one is an automatic. not a true 442 ? what do you think lou ?

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  7 месяцев назад +3

      Hmmm, I was looking for that 4 Speed too, however I'd still say this is a "true 442" because that's how the Factory made it.

      In 1964 the first yr of 442 production yes they all came with 4 speeds. But an auto was added as an option in 1965 and subsequent years so the 442 meaning changed in those later years.

    • @1957GoldenRocket

      1st year 1964 - 330 V8...
      4 barrel
      4 speed
      2 exhaust
      2nd year...
      4 barrel
      400 ci
      2 exhaust
      3rd year the 442 designation is out the window w/the L69 Tri-carb option...
      😆
