His performance on Letterman was pretty crazy. But it pulled me in. I'm a sucker for the nu-80's feel with the keys and bass. Time to dig into their music!
This is the first time I've seen or heard Future Islands and now I'm digging through all their stuff. Loving it! Man, I would like to see them in person.
Saw them open for Phantogram a few months ago. I hadn't heard of them before then...It was easily the most fun I've ever had at a show. I didn't know what to expect from Sam. He was just going crazy on stage! So awesome.
Awesome band. Wild that they've been around for 11 years! Saw them on Letterman then tracked them down in Cleve f'ing awesome! Next seeing them in Raleigh NC. Phenomenal performer! With rock solid compadres cranking sweet n solid behind him
He had this look in this eyes during the second verse, and he was starting to dance a little, you know he wants to do his ice skate dance, but he can't bc it's the studio.
Good Stuff, and, I`m a guitar Player. Really Powerful/ Dramatic.Lot of layers to that programming. Saw the performance on Letterman.Go Future Islands....
Fun to watch this one. Samuel T. appears about to burst into dance but has to stay close to the danged mike. Love this. And any song they do. Have purchased both SINGLES and ON THE WATER. Fantastic albums.
A friend of mine just told me about this band not even a month ago and now I'm hooked in all the way. These guys bring the 80's back to today's music which is awesome! I'm trying to describe their style and so far I would say they are mix of Prefab Sprout and Spandau Ballet, both brittish bands from the 80's.
liked this when Jenny LSQ the lovely Romanian first announced it on Sirius. But after a ton of listenings, it makes me feel elated and achingly sad at the same time. Sam's intense energy is so appropriate for it. Cant stop
This was the year I first found FI. They’re absolutely talented in every department, I knew as I saw Sam wearing The cans that we wasn’t getting The Heart attack growl move, The Ice skating dance topped off by The Twerk!!
The Letterman version has some Deathmetal Vocals...haha what was that all about? Tripped me out. I had to find another video of it to see if he did it again...not on this one. Man this tune sounds like 80's to me...simple beat and bass line...keyboards with long lush chords. Psychedelic Furs?
Seasons change And I've tried hard just to soften you Seasons change But I've grown tired trying to change for you Cuz I've been waiting on you I've been waiting on you Cuz I've been waiting on you I've been weighing on you As it breaks, the summer will wake But the winter will wash what is left, of the taste As it breaks, the summer will warm But the winter will crave what has gone Will crave what has all Gone away People change But you know some people never do You know--when people change They gain a peace, but they lose one too Cuz I've been hanging on you I've been weighing on you Cuz I've been waiting on you I've been hanging on you As it breaks, the summer will wake But the winter will wash what is left, of the taste As it breaks, the summer will warm But the winter will crave what has gone Will crave what has all Gone away I've been waiting on you...
The only thing that will keep Sam Herring from being an icon is his unwillingness to be one. So far it doesn't look like he's ready to give up any time soon so stand back and watch his star rise.
I'm listening to Side B of SINGLES right now, second track, Light House. These guys are soaring upward... Light House is one of the standout songs off their latest album. I really dig the performance here on KCRW, thanks for sharing James
maccrash21 OR........'They gain a piece of peach......but they lose one too.....' Which can be a real bummer, if your looking forward to some refreshing fruit. ;-)
His voice truly conveys the emotion of these beautifully poetic lyrics. He really knows how to transmit that feeling with his voice
Will never tire of this song.
I hear ya, this guys voice is unmatched. I play ever version of this song I can find. Never will tire of it. He caught me on Letterman too.
His performance on Letterman was pretty crazy. But it pulled me in. I'm a sucker for the nu-80's feel with the keys and bass. Time to dig into their music!
***** This is clearly 80s synth pop inspired. Flock of Seagulls, Gary Numan, The Cars, Thompson Twins, etc...
***** You`re both crazy its inspired by the 70s !
Love they are Bass orientated.
"People change/
but some people never do/
when people change/
they gain a piece/
but they lose one too."
I love that lyric....
Love these guys.
NOT A STUDIO BAND!!!! These guys are the REAL DEAL!! The new album is the best I have heard in over a decade!!
This is the first time I've seen or heard Future Islands and now I'm digging through all their stuff. Loving it! Man, I would like to see them in person.
Check out "Tin Man!"
Saw them open for Phantogram a few months ago. I hadn't heard of them before then...It was easily the most fun I've ever had at a show. I didn't know what to expect from Sam. He was just going crazy on stage! So awesome.
Likewise pal. Bloody amazing!
The first Future Island's song I ever listened was "In the fall"...I just like how much emotion/drama the lead singer puts to every single song.
Phenomenal voice! I can't take my eyes off him when he performs!
I love that slap on the bass its sounds so awesome
I find the musicians to be as amazing as the vocalist. They play so flawlessly and their arrangements are perfect
You're amazed by something so-so trivial.
Initially I wasn't so sure about this band, but wow did it grow on me. I think that's a true mark of a good band
Amazing Band,love love them.
i really love this guy's voice. ugh.
Good for us,
Jack Bridges what u mean?
These guys are a definite mix of 80's techno bands such as OMD, Ultravox, and Prefab Sprout!!!! Awesome...Absolutely Fantastic!!!
Prefab Sprout weren't techno or a keyboard or synth band. Know what you mean though...
superb...
Love his voice and their sound!
My first time hearing Future Islands was the intro to the Uhh Yeah Dude podcast a few years ago. Made me go seek them out. Sooooo good!
I did the same thing. Heard the son Tin Man by Future Islands on Uhh Yeah Dude. Made me go find out what it was. This stuff is GREAT.
Just got this album. Absolute quality, love it
Awesome band. Wild that they've been around for 11 years! Saw them on Letterman then tracked them down in Cleve f'ing awesome! Next seeing them in Raleigh NC. Phenomenal performer! With rock solid compadres cranking sweet n solid behind him

It seems like he can barely contain his excitement. He just wants to let it out but is confined to the standing mic. Love it!
I am sooo hooked !
no death metal growl, no ice skating dance. still a great song though.

Most normal performance of this song lol

He had this look in this eyes during the second verse, and he was starting to dance a little, you know he wants to do his ice skate dance, but he can't bc it's the studio.

Nobody can sing this masterpiece but Sam....

He's got Rod Steward's voice! Awwwessome!

Great song, only one problem I can't get the volume loud enough
Saw them in Hyde Park, London yesterday - amazing!
He’s very sharp
Just saw them on David Letterman, yep......Rod Stewart!

he sounds like a gothic Elton John and he moves like Tom Jones with a rash...
love the music....
Ha! Perfect!
That's exactly why I cam here too, those vocals haha
Fine Young Cannibals?
Guess I'll Have To GO and FIND the LYRICS Myself, SHEESH.
Seasons change
And I've tried hard just to soften you
Seasons change
But I've grown tired trying to change for you
Cuz I've been waiting on you
I've been waiting on you
Cuz I've been waiting on you
I've been weighing on you
As it breaks, the summer will wake
But the winter will wash what is left, of the taste
As it breaks, the summer will warm
But the winter will crave what has gone
Will crave what has all
Gone away
People change
But you know some people never do
You know--when people change
They gain a peace, but they lose one too
Cuz I've been hanging on you
I've been weighing on you
Cuz I've been waiting on you
I've been hanging on you
As it breaks, the summer will wake
But the winter will wash what is left, of the taste
As it breaks, the summer will warm
But the winter will crave what has gone
Will crave what has all
Gone away
I've been waiting on you...
if you Haven't seen Letterman performance-GO NOW=>
oopsadaze It's 'gain a peach.' The guy just really likes peaches. Look at the color of his shirt.
The only thing that will keep Sam Herring from being an icon is his unwillingness to be one. So far it doesn't look like he's ready to give up any time soon so stand back and watch his star rise.

Uh huh
6 years later...
@@herrfister1477 Yeah, I missed that call. Has it really been that long?
James Casey
And yet... find me another Sam Herring...
I love this fuckin song
THIS IS THE GIRL.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'll take all of this you got! But why keep Mr. Herring couped up with that mic stand! Unleash the beast!!
Ah yes, like the Dave Letterman Show, we wanna see the moves :)
The drums are the only thing that I frown on.
his voice brings be baack
♥
If russell crowe and kevin spacey had a baby, it would look like the lead singer
Was thinking russell crowe and henry rollins myself, but I hear ya
He looks like Fred Flintstone jr.
Jack Black and Dan Akroyd?
Cool
I've tried hard just to soften you
You can see he just wants to burst into a dance
Underworld - Born Slippy meets Jack Black
Es importante añadir vegetación al escenario.
the leadsinger is a mix of Burt Reynolds and Russell Crowe
"They gain a peach... but they lose one too..." Poignant.
uh, it's 'they gain a piece but they lose one too'
maccrash21 OR........'They gain a piece of peach......but they lose one too.....' Which can be a real bummer, if your looking forward to some refreshing fruit. ;-)
great song any think he sounds a little like elton john 1.32 to 1.50 in the hi notes might be just me
His voice kinda reminds me of Elton John
Trio? How come I see 4 band members?
+Bob Solo The drummer is just a touring member
Trio?
I saw four musicians. Someone must be a rental.
When one of your favorite bands all are wearing your same headphones. A nice feeling.
kinda missing the demon voices, still an awesome performance
Looks like he's in the 60s
If Captian Kirk and young Marlon Brando had a baby.
porque todas sus canciones son adictivas? jajajaja
foist
This sounds like a grime-yer Coldplay
This is great. I think his vocals were recorded very badly. It's way too dry.
That's his charm which 250 percent of us love
Indie rock game Seth Mcfarlane
fabulous. And not like Rod Stewart ( who is also great imho) at all
