There is something really magical when the bass guitar is a lead instrument. Pretty rare but amazing when it happens.

Cheryl Waters is the gold standard of radio hosts. She's engaging and asks insightful questions that invoke sincere and thoughtful responses. In fact, KEXP has some of the greatest interviewers I think I've ever heard. There's a maturity and style throughout the team that seems to be ingrained in the culture at KEXP. But the queen of class is Cheryl. Thanks again for a wonderful session. Additionally, I think Kevin Suggs is my hero. Please pass this message onto them, if you happen to see it.
Agreed. The only thing I sometimes find entertaining and easy to poke fun of is how much she nerds out about certain acts, with her immense passion. Sometimes I laugh cuz it comes off as fan-girlish, but it's reflective of how truly engaged she is with the bands and the sound, which is ultimately inspiring. She's awesome.
Totally agree, the sound Suggs gets is incredible across such a diverse range of acts. And I'm all for passion in broadcasting, especially of the Cheryl variety. Hearts on sleeves? Yeah, works for me!

What a great band. I had the opportunity to see them this year in Zapopan and they are so amazing, they play with a lot passion, they make feel people. I really love their music. Cheryl Waters, she's a jewel as always.

I enjoy his strong singing voice that he has for us to hear. U can tell he works hard on the songs w his boys. They are a awesome team!!
I enjoy his not so perfect tones and lyrics! His stage performances are amazing but I enjoy listening to them without the video also.
Oh man, his voice is fucking brilliant. So much texture and character. Way better than some boring, generic "perfect" singer that sounds like the millions of other "perfect" singers out there.

The sound engineer did a really shitty job
It sounds like Sam possibly had a bit of a throat infection or a touch of laryngitis at this performance and was perhaps holding back a bit, you can hear his voice disappearing when he is chatting to Cheryl in between tracks.....such an incredible band......would also have loved it if they had icluded "Ran"........

This latest album seems too tame I think the new producer may have throttled them back without realizing it.. this band is meant to be raw the music needs to have the highs and lows of a live performance it feels to restrained and level.. I think however with a minor mindset adjustment they can get back to the old more raw style that gained them their Fame but I'm sure they're still really great live but I just think sometimes bands once they get a certain amount of success and start workibg with new producers lose the magic in their quest for change. I'm over 50 and I've seen it happen since the 70s..

Vocals are so out of whack here. What happened to the mixing?
Sam had lost his voice earlier in the week. He was still recovering and then had a show that night. He was probably taking it easy to be ready for that night's show.
His voice seems strained. Being on tour and singing night in, night out being the likely cause.
Not the best in terms of sound engineering for this set, bu this band has come a long way in my view.

I'm FI biggest fan, but I think Sam's voice sounds really fucked from all those shows. Give yourself some rest dude
They shouldn't have performed with his voice in that state. It hurts to listen to him. What a shame
