Arrived in Brisbane with my wife in November, she’s a nurse and I’m a roofer. Rent is high, but in comparison to what we were paying in London it’s fine. In London we were paying £900 and sharing with 3 other people in Chelsea. Now we’ve got a one bed for about £800 a month, with our disposable income after rent being maybe 6000 a month. Wages here are great tbh and when I hear Aussie complain I have to laugh. Most of my cousins my age from Longford are mining or in construction. The lifestyle is just astronomically different, of course there’s drug problems and vulnerable people but that’s really such a norm for anyone these days. My advice to anyone in the uk or Ireland is take advantage of the passport you have, your wages won’t increase back home and your employer will exploit you with false promises

My great great grandfather came to Australia from Ireland. It took him 8 months to get here by ship. He arrived at the age of 26 and worked as a teacher. He became a wealthy man in a short time by buying and selling property. The Irish have been an important part of Australian history often leading major political and social reform. In the early days of the colony many convicts were actually Irish dissidents and political prisoners of the British.

I was glad to hear you say you are returning to do your regional work. If you are looking to move here permanently it may be a good option to look at a regional city, or even a lot of small towns are always looking for workers. Especially towns with a shrinking population. Of couse ther are pros and cons to that too. Housing would be a lot cheaper, but you would be more isolated from a major city.

I recommend free accommodation jobs in the bush or small town. Save and save, then travel SE Asia or for your house back in Ireland. Australia living in the city feel like a rat race, so expensive.

Its a good rat race and if you ever do manage to get your foot in the door of housing the per annum capital gain will make you rich!

Drop by Toowoomba Hal, stay a few days - bit over an hour bus to Brisbane. Glad you enjoyed your time. I went to the UK in my 20's and its a great lived experience seeing and surviving in another country.

Although Australia is isolated (from the Northern Hemisphere only) Australians are great travellers and think nothing of jumping on a plane to travel. I live in Melbourne, the best city in my opinion. It is the Arts, academic, cultural , sports and gardens centre of Australia and coffee cafe culture and food are excell Over 200 ethnicities live here. It was named the most liveable city in the world quite a number of times by an international forum. Regarding transport , as well as trains and buses, it has the most extensive tram network in the world. My parents emigrated from Wales and England in the 1950s. We children are thankful and feel blessed that they did this .Our family spans living in the four eastern states of Australia. Good luck with your next adventure to Oz and it is called, 'The Lucky Country' for good reasons !

Coffee is excellent in Australia. Affordable and great coffee everywhere even from 7/11. Even America is importing coffee culture from Melbourne. Greetings from Malaysia

Simple or limited skills labourers are wanted just a bit west of Sydney around Bathurst. Smaller towns around Bathurst easily connect to the train line and getting to Sydney is an easy 3 /4 hour trip.

In the context of the video and him being an Irishmen, I can completely understand how he’d limit his video to meldourne and Sydney to be fair. Melbourne is such an Irish environment

jobs are easy to get for locals, that's the point , unemployment in australia is around 4% but if you go door knocking ., lets say in a supermarket/shopping centre there are signs up every where for casual employment .If you drink buy your own, wine is cheap , but if you are out in party mode than you are wasting money on drink .

Get a union job on a construction site of your choice can. If you see a crane, 99% chance it’s a union site. Could be earning $55 just manoeuvring a broom all day and your hours will be 6-2, with overtime offered if you even need the money

Population is around 26 million but over 500,000 immigrants/foreign workers/international students arrived in 2023 so the housing crisis is very real and exacerbated by a lot of long term rentals being turned into Air BnB’s.

As an Australian I can tell you don't bother it's the biggest nanny country in the world we are taxed like crazy on everything, hospitals are overcrowded with huge waiting lists, schools are overfull and understaffed road system is a joke in Melbourne home invasions from the lovely group of immigrants we won't mention and the government has us in so much debt it's only getting worse here every year.back in the 1980s or 1990s it was good but now 💩
