As a person who plays both the Irish bouzouki and the bodhran I can say that this is just another example of how wonderfully talented these people are. The bodhran player's contribution is perfect and if it looks like he's working up a sweat well, it's because the music is moving him and he's having a good time playing it. I often feel that way when I'm playing and if it shows, so much the better.
Buddy Guy, mighty bluesman, was watching Danu play from backstage at the Winnipeg Folk Festival when I was host. Donncadh had finished the first set of reels playing on Uilleann pipes and switched to bodhrán for the next set. As that set ended Buddy turned to me and said “If I had that guy I could replace my whole rhythm section.” Truly, Donncadh transcends genres.
I love these small little gestures Irish musicians do on stage to let their fellow players know they're going to speed things up or change to another tune :)
I saw them in Finland may years ago and loved them to bits. If I ever have a chance to meet and hear them again I would be so happy! This song and the flute is just so wonderful it weakens your knees.
@felipebonniwell Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh has been Danu's lead singer since about 2003. She is the best female singer I've ever heard. she plays flute (and whistle) as well as she sings.
Pure genius's and lads (no5eyparker) get a life....this is musical fusion at its best..never seen you travel da world, play the instruments with such skill and with such heart.....take a look my friend and LISTEN!!!!!! youse are deadly DANÚ!!! INSPIRATIONAL!!!!
Wow! That's so beautiful, that flute sounds so full and the players great. I saw these guys playing in a house party on the seafront in Aberystwyth after a show; they were completely pissed but it was amazing, where my love for the accordian began : )
At the exception of the Chieftains, i've never heard any band that has a crisp irish flute sound like this...and I mean wtf...how can he still be standing after expending so much air?? This song is plain awesome. I love these guys.
Splendid performance!!! Many thanks Donegal for uploading and my Irish friend for sharing this video! It's always interesting to know something new ♫♫♫♫♫
I personnaly ain't much more then an amateur player...I just try a lot of instruments...i'm no virtuoso on any of em but playing is what I enjoy and these guys just give reason more to keep n playing.
No, it's not a baroque flute. Baroque flutes had only an Eb key, and Tom's flute has a least a long after key and a few others (hard to see). As the flute does not appear to have a C foot, and does not appear to be fully keyed (again, hard to see), which would make it chromatic, I would peg this flute as one of the contemporary descendents of the 19th century flutes which are sometimes called "Irish flutes".
hoping to see these brilliant musicians on st. patty's day in connecticut. also hoping to let the band know that they have the wrong "muireann" singing with them. they were supposed to get me. she's actually done a fine job in my place so, i'll make sure to let her down easily when we (meaning the boys and me) tell her she's been replaced. ha!!! ;-)

T'would be hard not to do better. What a bunch of disjointed crap thse wallies play! They sound worse than iPaddy Moloney, The Comisar Of Oirish Musak, inspired Poms on bad beer. 'Haven't a clue' would be praise for such rubbish!

Tom Doorley is an absolute master of the flute.
It's like a how-to of Irish flute grace notes. It's just breaktaking.

If this music doesn't move you in some way, you lack a pulse.

Come si fa a far star ferme le gambe, sono seduto ma le gambe "battono" sul pavimento
This is nothing to do with vikings my friend, it's an Irish folk song, not Nordic :)

What about slowing down so you at least find the road others took so much care over maki
