    The Jeep Renegade Trail Hawk can handle this hill without much difficulty. But you have to select the right modes for the 4x4 operation. Also disable the ESC to allow for more wheel spin. Otherwise, the traction control will pull throttle power to limit tire slip. The TigerShark Multiair engine has plenty of power for the task, but it needs a bit more RPM to access that power.

  • @DMZamora
    @DMZamora 5 лет назад +13

    It's clear as crystal that 4x4 "Low" mode was not enabled at first. When it finally got up, you can notice that the wheels are spinning way slower to the same engine rotation, and it climbed easily even on street tires. Driver failure, not a car issue.

      The low range on this is just first gear. It normally starts in 2nd gear.. It's basically the same first gear I have in my Cherokee Trailhawk with the 2.4. my first gear will do the same thing but my "real" low range has no issues. I like the Renegade a lot but I really wish they would have put a 2.92 transfer case in there. If you want market separation between the Renegade and the Cherokee fine just leave the locker out. At least give it the good low range everybody wants it. I don't like when companies cripple something just to create product separation. That's what Apple does with the iPhone SE. I think it's ridiculous.

    this is not a fail. it was just a line picked that did not work and the driver had to pick another line. No different then any other vehicle. This is a win in my book.

    • @johnfrench6144
      @johnfrench6144 2 года назад

      It's not the power it needs ... its the electronic assisted 4x4 modes that need to let more wheel engagement.. it tends to cut throttle on the modes , in conjunction with some drive when you actually need the wheels spinning momentum to to engage ... it gives the wheels the grip that has most but throttle gets cut , when you could have drive on the less contacted wheels .. cvt is worse but this is better ... you can switch esp off ... I'd like to see some real tests with all modes tried to see which is best on for most traction but as yet I haven't seen any .. its a capable little off roader that just lacks what the wrangler has. So you have to work at it a bit more .. it'll do it most times . Needs more articulation . And more drive to the less gripping wheels . Without the throttle back off.

    The 2.0 diesel Versions available in europe have far more grunt for going offroad. The 2,4 seems to suffer from a lack of torque at around 1600rpm and the traction control therefore cannot work as good as it could with more power at the wheels.
    But still it is no fail. Not really graceful, but it made it up the hill.

  • @off-roadingexplained8417
    @off-roadingexplained8417 Год назад

    Yeah just needs a small amount of momentum because it just doesn't quite have a low enough low range. I would definitely not recommend putting larger tires on this.
    I have the same engine and transmission in my Cherokee Trailhawk but I have a 56:1 crawl instead of 20:1. Zero issues. In fact , It can climb so stinking hard that it will get you into trouble... For mine as long as the tires will grip, it will climb it no problem...
    You HAVE to put these renegades in low because low just allows 1st gear and not low is 2nd gear which is way too high.

You can't buy a Renegade Trailhawk with any transmission other than the ZF conventional automatic transmission. The Trailhawk's 4.33 final drive and the ZF transmission's 4.7-4.8 first gear are how the 20:1 crawl ratio of that version is achieved.
      And no, 75% of Renegades DO NOT have a CVT transmission, at least in the North American market I live in, because you can't buy one with a CVT in it here.

      @@tankscrittersandurbanhomes5579No, that's not "me saying so," but more or less quoting Art Anderson, chief engineer for the Renegade. I think he'd be in a position to know that the vehicle has only been offered with the 6-speed Fiat C635 manual and the 9-speed Chrysler 948TE automatic in the North American market.
      He'd also be in the position to know that the Trailhawk / Deserthawk versions only come with the 9-speed Chrysler 948TE automatic, regardless of what market they're sold in.
      So, I don't know where you're "getting cvt renegades all over here" but I know for an absolute fact that you're not doing it in the North American market and nobody else is, either.
