Top10Archive The Butterfly Knife is actually called a Balisong. It's kind of a Jack of all trades knife. You can use it for combat, or just something practical, like cutting a box open. Lol, I've never even heard of that You Tuber you mentioned. Some other interesting things that were probably more worthy of mentioning, are the Igorot tribes Hanging Coffin's, the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, or the first human settlers of the islands, the Aeta Tribe. There was also the death of Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan, Filipino Martial Arts. Other famous Filipino's, or people that are part Filipino, Lou Diamond Philipps from the movie La Bamba, the boxer Nonito Donaire, Ernie Reyes Jr. and Mexipino Dante Basco who played Rufio in "Hook". There also that girl in the movie Ender's Game, Bruno Mars, and my favorite, the only that man was personally appointed by Bruce Lee, to teach his Martial Art Guro Daniel Inosanto. There was also middleweight champion Ceferino Garcia who was the 1st boxer to use the Bolo punch in boxing, and a tough opponent for the boxing great Henry Armstrong. That's not to exclude Cuban boxer Kid Gavilan, who made the Bolo punch even more popular. Lastly, the Filipino hero Chief Lapu Lapu, who, killed Spanish Explorer Ferdinand Magellan. I could list more, but I think that's enough.
+Heanly Hyral most of them ARE facts. another fact about the Philippines. the leader of the UN at the start of the Korean war was filipino, and the 10th bct, a filipino combat battalion, which numbered approximately 1,400 men, faced off against 40,000 Chinese troops during the battle of yultong. during that battle, the Chinese lost 14,000 men, while the filipinos lost 4. also, on the day after the battle of yultong, the British royal Gloucestershire regiment found themselves surrounded by Chinese forces. the 10th bct came withing 2km of their position, but was unable to push through, because the UN forces refused to provide a little extra support. the 10th bct became known as the "Fighting Filipinos" and general macarthur said of them "Give me 10,000 Filipinos, and I shall conquer the world" which is a huge testament to the skills and tenacity of the filipino soldier, especially considering the fact that they fought the battle of yultong in sub zero temperatures with no winter clothing and bazookas that didn't work.
Robert Jhun Parro Canilang "Kwek Kwek" is an egg of a quail covered with that orange thing and the one that has the intestine of the chicken is called "Isaw". -Filipino

xarchanx Well, look at my comment above yours. I named even more facts, and could have easily named a few more. I'm a Filipino American, born at a time in the U.S., where people were discouraged to teach their children to be bilingual. This made me very Americanized, so Filipino's from my age group made fun of me for liking rock music, and hanging out with a multi-cultural group of friends. So if I wasn't able to speak my parents dialects (Tagalog and Bicolano), I was going to know more about Filipino history. So for a period of time, I read every book that was about Philippine history in my family small library/office. The pre-colonial time period fascinated me the most.

I'm an American. I was told how great Filipina women are towards family values and marriage. I'm opening my mind up to possibly date and/or marry one. I use Skype to talk to the women and damn, that internet is horrifically slow! I feel bad

sharmaine mararac I'm guessing Christmas time is the most profitable time for the hospitals in your country due to all the limb impalements and whip injuries
***** I get what you're saying, but christ was crucified by what was then the richest and most powerful nation on earth, so money wouldn't have been an issue. Also, Romans kept slaves so all they had to do was instruct a slave to cut down a tree. The result... Free wood!!! Also, you have to take into account the symbolic nature of the crucifix, which was a symbol of death, and then became a symbol of new life after Christ's death and resurrection
Fact about Filipinos a lot of foreigners assume that we're kind because we smile a lot. No, we're just polite and most of us don't have that in your face attitude
Philippines is the second largest English speaking country in the world next to USA. WE have 7,100 islands, speaks over 100 dialects. A Filipino invented the fluorescent lamp, Filipino engineer invented the rover on the moon, John Schneider (actor), Enrique Iglesias (singer), Lou Diamond Phillips (actor), Sheryl Burke (dancer), Ted Bruski (football player) all half Filipinos.
The Yoyoy was invented by a FIlipino, so we're the back up alarms on motor vehicles that we're popular in the late 1970's that had different sounds such as chirping birds, dog barks, Roars of lions, tigers, and even sounds from other farm & wild animals.
Naughty Ballz it can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Filipinos speak at least 2-3 languages and even 4-5 languages. It's a good thing....... it brought money and help the economy of the Philippines, such as... South Koreans and other Asians go to the Philippines to study and learn English because it's cheaper than going to the states. A lot of Foreign Companies go to the Philippines for call centers because of Filipinos ability to speak English. A lot of Filipinos are being hired by other countries...nurses, doctors, engineers, seamen, domestic helpers, skilled workers etc. because we can speak the English language. Over 12,000,000 Filipinos are working outside the Philippines because not only skilled and experience but able to speak the language. Because of that, over 25 billion dollars are being sent to the Philippines and that helps the economy of the country. Philippines is now considered one of the fastest growing economy in Asia. I don't really see a negative effect of the country of speaking English. The different dialects/languages that are spoken in the Philippines will never go away because the dialect in each province in the Philippines is always be their first dialect/language to learn. English will only be learn in the school.
This is interesting as a Filipino. I never knew about the fetus-eating demon and the Pepsi controversy. Thanks for doing one Top Ten list for my country!
I still think Sinigang should be the national dish, theyve done a research and found that while adobo is very popular outside the country many Filipinos are partial to Sinigang being a national dish.
Sinigang? National dish? It is not that popular in most places in mindanao, and adobo is already accepted nationwide.. It is usually, if not always, present in all pinoy handaan which can't be true of sinigang.
+Miguel Gallardo oh i am still waiting for prettymeanscowl to put a new profile pic. I'm excited about that makeover.. a whole new persona - from pinoy to canadian (asian to caucasian). Maybe going for a sexchange too...
These also may be included: 1. Filipinos were good in English speaking (5th largest english-speaking nation) 2. People power EDSA. 3. The Puerto Prinsesa Underground River. (Longest Subt. river in the world.) 4. Boracay Island. 5. Papal visits. 6. The mt. Pinatubo eruption. 7. Small country but 7th most populated in Asia 8. University of Sto.Tomas
Carlisle Zachary Lewis you include that the Philippines beat all countries in Asia in international beauty contests and talent contests. Filipinos have beautiful women and talented not just in asia perhaps in the world !
The Facts That you say is true About the Filipinos! I can tell Because I am a Filipino Like If you are a filipino! and Mabuhay to you all #ProudToBeAFilipino
and One Fun Fact to you guys Anything you buy in the Phillipines is CHEAP yes you heard that CHEAP because in the U.S 1 Dollar equals to 47 pesos in the Phillipines. But for us filipinos it is expensive cause thats our money. But of you americans go in here (the Phillipines) you will have a time of your life shopping Example: your 2 dollars can buy about 3 or 4 Long Sleeves in the Phillipines And It Is ORIGINAL!! For reals yes ORIGINAL. Thas all I can say. 😂 but there is more! If you are trying to find a vacation spot just pick the Phillipines.
Allyssa Ashley Gomez lol pilipinos *fp* ginawa mong plural ung pilipino sa pilipinos eh tagalog ng filipino is pilipino eh ginawa mong plural pero indi naman tagalog.. Correct ko lng, "mga pilipino" now u know
How to get the attention of Filipinos in another country: 1. Yell "MAY FOREVER" and then if someone shouts back WALANG FOREVER then he/she is a Pinoy or shout WALANG FOREVER to get MAY FOREVER response. (Walang Forever=There's no forever/Forever doesn't exist. May Forever=There is Forever/Forever Exist. 2. Yell PAK GANERN (literally means Pak Like That. Pak is just a sound effect just like BOOM) Be careful not to get caught by roaming officers for yelling in crowded places 😂
+Yuri Catacutan hehe i thought no one can care in my comment but thanks for looking to kokey....hehe actually he is fictional character in minie siries in Ph.
Facts: Philippines has a lot of different dialects, defending on the region, but we used tagalog dialect so to communicate, and almost all filipino knows how to speak english.
My wife and i will be going to the Philippines for some R&R and we're both obsessed with shoes!! Is Marikina a hard to reach place ? my wife is not a fan with mountains...i guess the shoes there are expensive huh?
Kevin DC Marikina is a city near-ish to the capital, Manila, so other than the traffic, it shouldn't be too hard to get to! Make sure you buy shoes made by SM or by designer makers because sometimes if you are not careful, badly made shoes there have a tendency to have entire soles come off. (I've experienced this a few times.) Take my advice and buy shoes in stores and not in the palenqke (outdoor/public market) if you want them to last longer!
Fun Fact: 4/5 Filipinos know English. Fun Fact 2: 3/4 Filipinos suck at English grammar. Fun Fact 3: I am one with the 1/4 Filipinos who speaks English well.
+Top10Archive you left out Ernie Reyes Jr on your list of famous Filipinos. Martial artist and movie star. Also happens to be my wifes cousin, but that's neither here nor there.
Good for you Antonio Montana, I'm a widower, 61 that was married 31 years to a wonderful Filipina woman from Cavite City. Within the next 3 years, I'm planning on returning to the Philippines to live out my life there as my heart is in the Philippines. I'm of Irish-Norwegion ancestery, and I will only date Filipina women. Filipina women are more mature than their white American counter parts, are much better dates, and they are far more appreciative.
Take my advise and get to know her first. Some of them take advantage of foreigners so please get to know her more if her feelings are genuine before marrying her.
antonio montana get to know her better, she might be a user. Christpoher probably got lucky. Im from PH and not all are users but if she is from the province or usually they dont hav money they may take advantage of u. Good luck.
Michelle Kim mishie and antonio naman o.. Killjoy kayo hehe.. La talaga tau tiwala sa kapwa natin pinoy no? Ako din guilty sa ganyan. Kelan kaya tau magbago..

Jollibee is the only fast food restaurant that's popular than McDonald's. And McDonald's in the Philippines is the only McDonald's that serves rice and fried chicken. Hahahaha but it's delicious and good
harold almoite Jollibee? So true... The first Jollibee restaurant opened in Dubai... ... a long line of Filipinos spread from the entrance of the restaurant to the entrance of Dubai Mall. (exaggeration, but you get the picture).
Im from the Philippines, From the Island of Luzon in the growing province of Cavite. Half of the facts shown here never been teached to me. And its happy to see that its not only us who appreciates our Culture thus, Foreigners love it too😍😍😊
how about the "aswangs" the "kapre" the "dwendes" the "engkantos" and the "albularyo" and "mangkukulam". that is also part of our folklore which up to now everybody believes
Teachers in Philippines teach children to master English in a very young age. They teach advanced English from 5th grade and until collage. Not like in other countries they encourage children to master their own language instead of English. Some student in other countries have high English skills but filipinos have better grammar and better pronounciation than other countries in Asia.
Ben Andrei D. Prudentino I was in an english school for 10 years (i skipped kinder 1 due to my intelligence) and now i always speak english my relatives some of my classmates tease me for being fluent in english...

As a filipino, the crucifixion scares me
sharmaine mararac I'm guessing Christmas time is the most profitable time for the hospitals in your country due to all the limb impalements and whip injuries
***** ive never seen an actual crucification but just thinking about it, its sick. ive never been the religious kind tho......
***** filipino mangoes are officially the sweetest mangoes in the world, according to the Guinness book of world records
Yeap😁...Last time I had it was when my dad brought some back from our family grove...they were so ripe I could peel it with my fingers!!!
philippines is also good in speaking english for fact philippine is leading in call center job worldwide...
In fact* you failed my friend
in fact ure big bitch MORON nognog nog
jomana poe why you got butt hurt because of your grammar?
he is right! it is IN FACT
Nasua Nasua you mean it is A fact
Fact about Filipinos a lot of foreigners assume that we're kind because we smile a lot. No, we're just polite and most of us don't have that in your face attitude
Philippines is the second largest English speaking country in the world next to USA. WE have 7,100 islands, speaks over 100 dialects. A Filipino invented the fluorescent lamp, Filipino engineer invented the rover on the moon, John Schneider (actor), Enrique Iglesias (singer), Lou Diamond Phillips (actor), Sheryl Burke (dancer), Ted Bruski (football player) all half Filipinos.
is being the second largest english speaking country a good thing?
The Yoyoy was invented by a FIlipino, so we're the back up alarms on motor vehicles that
we're popular in the late 1970's that had different sounds such as chirping birds, dog barks,
Roars of lions, tigers, and even sounds from other farm & wild animals.
Christopher O'Rourke Yoyo was actually invented in ancient Greece.
Don't forget Erythromycin.
This is interesting as a Filipino. I never knew about the fetus-eating demon and the Pepsi controversy. Thanks for doing one Top Ten list for my country!
I didn't know most of these facts

Fun fact: Philippines is one of the countries where McDonald's is not the number one fast food restaurant but rather the number one is Jollibee
Ping Yu True, but maybe thats because its easier to cook and eat with other dishes.
+Ping Yu Hey what happened to +prettymeanscowl?? SHE was SO entertaining! Did she get plastic surgery done finally??
+Miguel Gallardo oh i am still waiting for prettymeanscowl to put a new profile pic. I'm excited about that makeover.. a whole new persona - from pinoy to canadian (asian to caucasian). Maybe going for a sexchange too...

Carlisle Zachary Lewis actually, almost half of us are just ok with speaking in English. People often leave that out
You've got a point. But according to research, filipinos were great in speaking English including accents even if it is not their language.
Carlisle Zachary Lewis you include that the Philippines beat all countries in Asia in international beauty contests and talent contests. Filipinos have beautiful women and talented not just in asia perhaps in the world !

How to get the attention of Filipinos in another country:
Pak is just a sound effect just like BOOM)
Be careful not to get caught by roaming officers for yelling in crowded places 😂

Facts: Philippines has a lot of different dialects, defending on the region, but we used tagalog dialect so to communicate, and almost all filipino knows how to speak english.
Jyrica lepasna what is your dialect?
Bisaya ako...
Jyrica lepasna Batangueño, but we use Tagalog dialect. Like a lyrics from our song CALABARZON, "Dito sa timog katagalugan."

Fun fact:SM is short for "Shoe Market". that's why shoes are what mainly it sells in SM.
Xeane Martinez Shoe Mart*
Xeane Martinez Yeah my mom used to tell me that I thought it was Super Market cause you know SM sells different products now
The SM mall is AMAZING! It's SOO big! And it has like a Ferris wheel, LOTS OF RIDES, and a VERY BEAUTIFUL VIEW.
My wife and i will be going to the Philippines for some R&R and we're both obsessed with shoes!! Is Marikina a hard to reach place ? my wife is not a fan with mountains...i guess the shoes there are expensive huh?
... Marikina is a city XD No mountains there haha!
well get me packing and we're off for some exotic shoe hunting!!
Mârikina city is next to Quezon City.IT is within NCR -NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION.ASK POLICE FOR ASSISTANCE.

I met a Filipino woman on FB and am going over there to Davao to meet her and hopefully marry her.
Good for you Antonio Montana, I'm a widower, 61 that was married 31 years to a wonderful Filipina
woman from Cavite City. Within the next 3 years, I'm planning on returning to the Philippines to live
out my life there as my heart is in the Philippines. I'm of Irish-Norwegion ancestery, and I will only
date Filipina women. Filipina women are more mature than their white American counter parts, are
much better dates, and they are far more appreciative.
Wow, thank you sir, how awesome, advice from an older man, thank you sir.
Good luck.

The first Jollibee restaurant opened in Dubai...

Teachers in Philippines teach children to master English in a very young age. They teach advanced English from 5th grade and until collage. Not like in other countries they encourage children to master their own language instead of English. Some student in other countries have high English skills but filipinos have better grammar and better pronounciation than other countries in Asia.
