Sadly I never got to see The Cocteau Twins live, but at least I can listen to this, close my eyes, and pretend I am one of the enthusiastic, mesmerized audience members. What a beautiful live version of my favorite CT song.
I was fortunate enough to have seen them at Sadler's Wells theatre in London around about this time. There are only two bands that I would love to see reform - Talking Heads and Cocteau Twins.
In studio they are GREAT! but on stage they are wonderfull! they give another form to the songs. They are strong! Elizabeth as a great feeling and sensibility... the musicians reivnvent the music... GREAT!
I bet you wouldn't have said that if you had been there! The crowd sometimes annoy me, but I understand their ecstatic utterings. It must have been something else to witness this live!!
@ninethreefivesix Totally agree. There's a similar live version on here under heading Pandora CT's Live the Black Sessions where the audience keep quiet til the end :O)
Does anyone know the source of these photos? What photographer / show? This is among some of her best live performances, she was very confident here. And I just love the audience!
Impressive. What's the source for these pictures (date/location)? The recording is from '96 and I suspect it's either from Boston or San Francisco (I used to have the LA, Cleveland and New York tapes and they were all, to varying degrees, poorer in audio). For most of that tour, Pandora was reserved for encores - which from a ROIO-collector's perspective is unfortunate. Audiences are notoriously very vocal in the US (also France and Spain) and, with total Fraser-mania setting in by the time of the encores (guilty!), the least she had to worry about was people feeling the need to cheer every tongue-twisting alliterative list that she successfully negotiated.
Lame? Sit there and yell? This (American, Boston I think) audience are in pure rapture!! Different to a UK audience, but I can understand their pure joy & unbridled enthusiasm when I listen to this!

Wolverhampton(UK), 1996. Not so good unfortunately, i think she was going out with Jeff Buckley at the time and he was encouraging her to give live songs different interpretations (like Bluebeard in the dropdown list over there> Hard to tell which song she ws singing half the time)). Still pretty awesome but not as good as some of her live singing on here...
Gordon Sharp vocalist of the band Cindytalk. He also sing a number of tracks in This Mortal Coil's It'll End In Tears, as well singing backing vocals on CT's Peel Session.
i think all bands/artists have kind of an on-off rythm throughout their live performances. i mean, good Lord, i was a huge JIMI HENDRIX fan growing up, and heaven knows some of his live performances were pretty much awful. the thing to remember about LIZ FRASER is: she DEFINITELY had the hardest job in the band. but when she was "ON," live, woe was she ever on! like that live "Pitch the Baby" w/ Mark Clifford...
the most beautiful voice in the world, and one that brings me to tears
Are people hearing how she drags out one of those phrases a little behind the beat in the first part of the song? Pretty divine.
She is on fire and the crowd is right there with her. Wow.
Best vocal I every heard by her.
This brings me back to the Warfield show in '96 when she sang it just as brilliantly. The audience was even louder though! Boy, do I miss them.
Goose bumps 👀👀👀
tell y'all what: THIS is one absolutely through the freakin' roof magnificent singing performance! wow wow wow wow wow!
Sadly I never got to see The Cocteau Twins live, but at least I can listen to this, close my eyes, and pretend I am one of the enthusiastic, mesmerized audience members. What a beautiful live version of my favorite CT song.

Does anyone know the source of these photos? What photographer / show? This is among some of her best live performances, she was very confident here. And I just love the audience!
.....coś wręcz wpaniałego...brak w piersi tchu...wspaniały głos Liz unosi mnie...brak mi słów.
Wow, this is inspired singing by Liz. One of the best live performances I've ever heard from her. Where was this from?
uuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhh!! =P
Impressive.

Mary Margaret O'Hara and Liz Frazer are two of the greatest singers ever.
when/where is it from?
Lame? Sit there and yell? This (American, Boston I think) audience are in pure rapture!! Different to a UK audience, but I can understand their pure joy & unbridled enthusiasm when I listen to this!
You can't fake passion like this!
What? Like then, or now?

who is cindy :( ?

Does the crowd have to ruin this song. Just be quiet already.

It's weird that Amy Winehouse got more attention when Elizabeth Fraser is a far better singer. As is Sia.
Ugh, the audience is so annoying! >:(
